So much weight to lose

hello. I'm 42 years old and weight about 295 ( approx 21.1 stone). I am an american living in england. I have always had weight issues, but since i moved to england 9 months ago, i have put on 40 more pounds...the fish and chips here are tooo good. I'm not going to go on a diet plan per se, just try portion control and exersize.. my goal is to lose 100 pounds ( gosh that is a Huge number). I will still be overweight but am big boned and chubby will be a lot better than morbidly obese. The hardest thing for me here in england is the food is so much diff than in the usa.. it's called something diff, packaged diff, and the nutricional info is diff on the packages. That is why i'm opting for tiny portions rather than counting calories or ?? I also am hypoglycemic, so i need to keep my blood sugar up which is too hard when counting. Anyhow, just found this sight today, and it seems like a real good one.. wish me luck please.. with 100 pounds (lil over 7 stone) to lose, im gonna need some luck:jump: :jump:

Blame England :D I do, hehe. Fish and chips are gorge though aren't they? Mmmm.. sausages too.

Good luck Jim, you can do it :)

Just take it meal by meal, day by day and you'll get there... it's easy to get discouraged when you're looking at a big number, but that number eventually gets smaller.

and 100lbs isn't that bad... its achievable -just remember that you didn't gain that weight overnight, you aren't going to lose it overnight..

What's a Mr. Spock? Didn't he write baby books? Just kidding, blame it on my youth. Trekkies ahoy! Anyways, I too have 100lbs to lose and yes it's daunting, but considering I've lost three pounds already, 100 ain't nothin' but a number. Don't let those European rainy days discourage you either. Just keep it up, and you'll reach your goal in no time (read: a reasonable amount of time directly correspondant to the amount of work you put in). Good Luck!

Thanks for the encouragement... sheesh, that was fast.. only posted a couple hours ago:)

You can do it

I read your post and I know you can do it. Portion control is key. Keep up on your posts they will help motivate you.

Just take it day by day.:jump:

Today so far (it's 2pm) i have had half a choch chip cookie... couldnt resist as its the first time i have seen a good old american choch chip cookie here in england lol... half a pint of carling, two slices of bacon and two peices of bread... wont eat again till dinner, and will be a small portion of beef stew. exersize has only been parking on the car park and walking to the high street to shop... and let me tell you, it is quite a walk... the biggest thing i think i miss about america is the drive up to a store and go in thing lol... by the time i finished all my shopping i prob walked for about an hour and a half.. not a good fast cardio walk.. but not a sunday stroll either..been drinkin lots of water which is something for me as i really dont like it.. would much rather have a 44 oz big gulp from 7 -11 but they dont have em here anyway.. which i guess is a good thing.. gave up my favorite soda about 6 months ago... not for dieting reasons but one of the ingredients is brominated vegetable oil ( mountain dew) and looked it up and its really bad news bears..i used to drink 2- 2 litres of that a day.. now im allowing myself one 8 oz glass of coke a day... really cant handle the diet soda...thank you for all the responses and the support.. is really awesome..:)

try some lemon slices or cucumber slices in the water and leave it in the fridge -it helps to add some flavor to it...

your food today so far has been:
a cookie and 1/2 a beer
bacon and bread

to me that seems like a very low number of calories not to mention the lack of nutrition in those calories.. have you considered using a food diary to help keep track?

good job on the walking :D

welcome aboard.

you kind of need to sit down and analyze how you want to lose this weightand change your life...eating bacon and bread and drinking beer isn't going to do it. you should be ramping up your metabolism with good food to keep it burning.

I'd advise trying to use something like fitday.com to track your eating and activities. once you get into a routine it becomes an exciting and positive thing. good luck with it.

normally i wont be drinking beer... it isnt even something i really like, but as i just got back to england 2 days ago ( had to go to usa for fam emergency) my father in law wanted to take me to the pub for a pint... much to his chagrin i only had half a pint tho lol... i normally wont eat this few calories but i really need to shrink my stomach.. i dont really eat a whole lot anyhow, unless its something i really like, but with my stomach shrunk a lil it should be better... im also trying to guage how much i can lose with the small amounts im eating this week, so starting next week i can adjust my food intake and exersize better.. got off the scale about 10 mins ago, and am down to 20.12 stone.. that is three pounds lost in two days( water mainly im sure)... i want to try to keep it to about 5 pounds a week weight loss as i dont want a bunch of hanging skin that can come from losing weight too fast..
as for the cucumbers thing... i wish i could do that.. i love all fruits and veggies, and love them raw... brocolli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, etc... but have really bad teeth atm so cant chew them:(.. makes this harder for me ...i will prob have a banana later as a snack as i can chew that and it is pretty filling as well as being good for ya. again, thank you for all the suggestions and support...you are all great:)

Jim I'm so proud of your decision to get healthy. I'm new here too and would like to lose about 100lbs as well. I'm excited to start this journey at the same time and know we can do it! For me the water thing was hard too. I wasn't used to drink so much of it, and like you I had my favorite soda. I also drank apple juice instead of water. The attitude I've taken is 'no excuses' and that if I can't do something just yet to not beat myself up inside. That isn't a good motivator for me. If I flub up, I'm going to keep on going on. I know it must be hard living in a different country while trying to make a change like this, but you can do it! Good luck to ya Jim. Look forward to hearing progress from ya!

trying to put a 'before' pic in here.. if it comes out right...the gorgeous man with me is my hubby.. he is 6'5 without an ounce of fat on him, but i love him anyway lol... he has been very supportive.. gonna go ahead and see if this pic comes out.. will post more in a min lol

it's great hat you've some one so supportive of you... that's wonderful...

you also might wannt to start yourself a diary -it's a great place to get support and to record your successes and challenges.. as well as have bit of fun :D

what i dont know about computers would fill a huge library.. lol.. finally got a pic on here, but it is soo small.. oh well, at least there is one lol..
thanks for the advice about the diary.. will start that either tonight or in the am.. what is a good amount of weight to lose weekly?? i have seen some people on tv shows that have lost huge amounts of weight really fast and end up with pounds and pounds of loose, saggy skin..would rather lose it slower and stay semi toned at least lol....just want to thank everyone again for all the encouragement and advice.. you guys rock

1 percent of total body weight is what I've always aimed for -some weeks I got a little higher, most recently -not so much... just keep saying to yourself this is a lifestyle change, and you didn't get to hwere you are overnight, it's going to take some time to fix.

you aren't ona television show that has all the resources at their disposal ad the need to get ratings... you iveint he real world and things do take time :D

Mal is right, it will take a week at a time.. I average one to two pounds a week...
and I need to lose one hundred and forty five pounds to bring me to
155 pounds ...
That is supposed to be my ideal weight .. I am 5'6 ... if I look good at 160 ..than I will stay there...

not going to lose over the amount I need to lose, because I have to have the endurance and ability to hike and bike ride. I bike ride on weekends for fifteen miles ... won't go any longer until I have lost to 175 ..

my goal is to do a 22 or 23 mile bike ride by the beginning of Sept ..so I can see Cape Neddeck and everything in fall ..its most beautiful ... I will enjoy it

but don't fret about five pounds a week ... that might be too fast ...
to take in skin it should be a slow weight loss and if you don't lose all you want in one week ...than just move onto a new goal for another day ..
they have challenges on the forum .. I joined the 2lb a week challenge... for June ...and the Summer Challenge for all summer till the first week of Sept ... on a friday ..so we check in every Friday ... on both challenges ..
than there is a drinking water challenge which I have joined ..seeing other people struggle and than win and meet whatever goals they set ..even though it might be a little less ..or might have gained a pound ... you feel welcome ...

its great
its a judgement free zone ..

best of luck

always

yeah, i know i deff dont want the hangy skin thing...wednesday will be the end of my first week, so ill know then if im losing too fast or not... yesterday i didnt have enough calories by a long shot.. slept in, so only ate two meals ( no snacks), and only had 900 of the lil buggers.. and that is including a small glass of coke i allowed myself when i noticed i wasnt near my cal goal for the day.. did have a good dinner.. lots of veg, mashed taters..( about 1/2 cup), one piece of brown bread, and a small baked piece of chicken breast...drank bucketloads of water.. well for me anyhow.. 1.5 litres... thats 1.5 litres more per day than i used to drink...lol... i used to drink coffee till noon, then soda till bedtime.. so any water i drink is bucketloads lol... didnt exersize much this weekend as hubby was home and we mainly sat in front of the pc's all weekend..:(.. he has a very physical job and likes to veg on the weekends...however i did go up and down the stairs like 30 times cause everytime i had to use the restroom ( all the water) i made myself go to the downstairs loo lol... is monday now tho, and he is back at work.. think ill take a nice long walk.. england is really pretty and there is still a lot around this town i havnt seen...also gonna job hunt this week.. got my visa a week and a half ago ( finally), so now i can work here... that will help me with weight loss as when im working i just dont get hungry for some reason lol.. well guys, again thank you for the encouragement and ideas... you rock
