So hard to not give up...

I'm 29 and I'm trying to loose weight. I panicked one day when I was at the gym with a friend. Got on the scale as a joke and it said: 188.8 (I'm 5'6")
I wanted to cry, actually, I did cry. "This is not me, how did this happen to me?" So, I started doing weight watchers (on my own, I don't go to meetings). I am now 166lbs. I would like to loose 20 more lbs at least. Every day I try to stick to my points (22) but it's really, really hard. I feel alone in this. So, I'm here hoping to find people who are in the same shoes as I am.

Hi Joilgirl, WW's Points is a good way to lose weight. I also use WW's Points on my own. I went once and got my book and point finder. With clothes and shoes on, I am about 166lbs. Right now my weight goes up and down. It is hard, but stay with it and you will reach your goal. Believe me! "I am in your shoes"!! WW's works better for me, when I combine exercises and drink at least 60oz of water a day.

Welcome Joli and congrats on taking the first steps to a new and better you. Many of us are on the same boat as you and this place is wonderful for keeping up motivation, so try to visit as often as you can.

Thanks guys!!

Thanks for the encouragement, I really do need it. That's the reason I'm here, I just don't have enough support for this. I have lots of "great looking" friends, and I just got sooo tired of always being the overweight one. I feel like it's been like that since I can remember. Even when I wasn't "that bad" I was still the heaviest girl.
Yes, I lost twenty lbs, and it makes me very happy. For some reason though I have this feeling like I can't do another twenty. Like it just won't work for me. I have no idea where this comes from and I wonder if anybody else has felt this way.

I know exactly how you feel. When I hit 20 I felt like I was about to hit a wall and whatever I do, I'm not gonna get any further results. I think a lot of it is just in our head.

We just gotta remember that this is a pivotal point in our "journey" (god I hate using that word because its so cliche, but I don't have much time to think of a better one right now), and we can EASILY fall back into the same routines and go right back to our starting weight and then some. Now is a good time to just look back on our past successes for motivation and reflect on why we decided to do this in the first place. This will hopefully help us move on from that stagnant mindset.

Physically, now would be a good time to mix up our exercise a bit and zig zag some calories maybe. Idk I don't think it would be necessary for me b/c I still have a ton to lose, but it might help you. But keep in mind, if you do keep working out and eating right, it WILL come off. Its just a law of physics or whatever.

Sorry if this is long winded but I thought I'd just comment since I was feeling the same way you did. Luckily I busted past 20lbs and hope to keep it up. Good luck to both of us!

Good responses guys! Don't lose hope Joli! Try not to think about losing 20 pounds now, but try breaking it down to 5 pounds by x amount of time...and so on until you reach your goal. And don't worry about your friends. Just try to do this for you...not anybody else. Best of luck! Be strong!!

It is far more than legal fees. It can be land costs, it can be not being able to use the second floor of older buildings as they were designed because of handicap laws. It can be having to have 3 basins in commercial kitchens which are never used or being shut down.
