Small Frame: Rapid Weight Gain of 17 lbs. Need help getting back to normal!

I'm a female, 5ft 2 and age 27. Since April, I went from weighing 95 lbs to 112lbs. The weight gain has steadily been over the course of the past months, about 3lbs a month. My weight for the past 3 years has been at 102 and I would be happy if I could get back to this weight.

I have been exercising like crazy, and also eat a vegan diet. I'm very depressed, as I have noticed the gain in my face. haven't lifted weights in about a month, yet my traps are still large. I used to volunteer as a model and don't want to be photographed at all, by anyone! And, right now I don't have health insurance so I can't go and get any tests run.

Since transitioning into a vegan diet, I have never had weight issues - EVER. I am so depressed and cant stand to look in the mirror. I am looking for insight, motivation, and help to identify the cause of the weight gain and devise a solution to RID the 10 lbs.

Looking forward to your comments....

Regardless of what you eat: Atkins, Vegetarian, the Chocolate diet....its calories that make the difference in terms of weight loss. Don't kill yourself with exercise, do exercise- 30mins to 1 hour a few times a week is fine, but to lose weight, calories in is where its at.

Work out why your weight went up also, theres no point trying to fix something thats only going to break again.

The EXACT same thing happenned to me, i'm also small frame female age 28 and am dealing with rapid weight gain over the last few months. I am 5'1" and I actually gained way more than you, I went from 98lbs just this past Dec. to a wopping 121 lbs. but I did go through a pregnancy loss I was 1 month pregnant n then the stress after that I guess it's what made me reach that 121lbs.
I also think it has to do with our age as well do to slower metabolism.
about a month ago I started working out a few times a week and changed my diet to smaller portions, no sodas, fruits and veggies and I lost 7lbs so far.
I also drink Whey protein shakes after long workouts and drink lots of water, I have been slacking the last week or I would of lost another pound or two, but I am starting again today.
I hope that helps.

Thank you both for your replies. Since my post I have lost 2lbs and am now at 110. I've noticed my upper body slowly getting smaller, but some of my shirts are still tight. Also, I still cannot fit into my favorite pair of jeans.

Kitty - congrats on your progress... keep it up! What kind of workouts are you doing by the way?

I am in denial and refuse to accept that this is a change in my body due to age. It is maddening though, as I have to work extra hard just to maintain my weight! I used to be able to eat all the vegan desserts I wanted and consumed calories galore without gaining a pound!

Any other pointers you have ... let me know... I cant seem to break 110. I am cursed!
