Slowly getting heavier :-)

.....as my BF % continues to drop :)

It's kind of funny, by that old BMI scale, it says I'm a good bit overweight now {210@13%BF) while at my lowest weight of 192@18-20% BF and the BMI scale said I was just barely overweight.... yea', with barely enough muscle to conduct daily life ! How is that healthy ?

So anyway, I'm working towards becoming obese again :) .... My 50 year old goal 225@9% BF I'm 6ft BTW. Just give me 3 years ;-)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, so also, while I'm here, I would not, for a second, try to say that everybody who loses a bunch of weight, should then become a workout freak like Fish Chris :)
I do think some consistent, moderate exercising (cardio and resistance) is good for almost anybody though.
But for myself, I'm so focused on body building, cutting, bulking, eating really clean and balanced ALL the time......
That it's just easy. I mean, it gives me something to focus on... what am I eating, when, and why ? Does it meet my macro balance needs ? Is this good for my cut, or my bulk ?
And what the heck, everything I eat tastes awesome to me anyway ! :)
Oh and hey, not trying to twist your arms or anything.... but if you work out hard, you get to {have to ?} eat a lot ! :) I eat anywhere from 3300-4200 cals a day, depending on whether I'm cutting or bulking, and when I get to 225@9%, I'll probably be eating 4000-5000 :) I like that idea too :)
Eating a lot was never a problem for me :) My issue was in eating all the wrong stuff... and no exercise.
Peace,
Fish
Hello,
It sounds like you are doing awesome!
Going from 18/20% to 13% body fat is major! After all it is the body fat that is causing the health issues not the muscle mass.
Since muscle weighs a lot more that fat, it sounds like you are on your way to reach your goal.!
The charts and scales are using percentiles~ based on the average population. When you work out hard, lower your BF, your blood pressure , your heart rate...you do not fit on any scale based on your height and age....which is a good thing!
You're making such a great point, the scale tells you only the total weight. You need to work out and always be aware of what you eat to change the consistency of your body. You have obviously re designed yours!
As far as being able to eat more...yeah, muscles need to be fed...oh, the rewards!
Take care,
Louise
Hey Ryan, I assume you mean the conversions for BF %'s and such ?
Yes, my body building buddy has the calipers, and a PC program that takes into account, several pinch measurements, your age, sex, height, and weight on the scale. It is supposed to be pretty accurate, and very consistent.
We check my BF every few months.
I think my BF % will end up hovering in the 12% to 14% range (from cuts to bulks) until I can put on a good chunk more, of lean muscle. Maybe by next Spring / Summer, I might try to push down below 12%..... but only if I'm up to 220 lbs or so {with my same pants still fitting me ;) ....same size as in high school, BTW :)}
here... i have better solution for that problem ,,,,
try to go out for walk and also do some exercise and make it as your daily routine work .because consistency is most important thing in life.
I'm sorry.... but for what problem ? I'm trying to get up to about 225@9%.
Heck if my genetics allowed it, I'd like to be 300@6%, like my idol ZKK ;) Look him up. I just figure 225@9% will be pretty darn tough as it is, knowing my own genetics... and my age {47}
If your wondering why I'd post about body building on a primarily weight loss forum, it's because I did lose 80 lbs at the start of this journey. Now, I've lost 110 lbs of fat, but I've also gained 33-35 lbs of lean muscle :)
Kind of proud of myself... but a loooonng ways to go !
Yes, BMI is pretty much useless since it doesn't account for muscle mass.
And it's pretty cool to think about eating all those calories and still being able to burn them off. Congrats on your progress so far.
I can't understand why something as rediculous as BMI is so popular either. I am obese according to BMI but it takes no account of the muscle mass I built through weight training. Hip to waist ratio and body fat % are much more sensible.
It also doesn't take into account ones frame size / build. I have an abnormally deep chest, and pretty wide shoulders too. If I ever got down to 180, like those BMI charts suggest for me, I'd be sickly skinny, with VERY low muscle mass.
This was taken last week (I hate bathroom shots ;) LOL ... It was kind of just a test. My photography buddy is supposed to be taking some "real" shots for me, soon.....
Peace,
Fish
