I have been overweight most of my life. Shortly after having surgery at the age of five, I began gaining weight. By the time I was in sixth grade, my weight had increased to well over 200 lbs. During my college years I my weight reached 286lbs. I couldn't believe that I had ever gained that much weight and I hated myself for it. Unfortunately, I never really did anything about it. My senior year of college, I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, an extremely overactive thyroid. My body was producing more than four times the normal amount of thyroid hormone. I realized that I had a pretty high metabolism because of the disease but it seemed to leave me hungry all the time. So I was constantly eating. I forced myself to eat less and tried to fill my time with more interesting things like hanging out with friends and excercising with my best friend. I lost a ton of weight. At graduation I had lost down from a size 28 to size 20. A few months after graduation I decided to go back to school to become a teacher. When I left home for school, I weighed 199 lbs. For the first time in my life I was happy, and would actually walk around campus holding my head up high. Which was completely unlike me. I always the one walking around that seemed to be staring at something interesting on the ground. I wouldn't speak to anyone unless they spoke to me first. Even then, I was extremely uncomfortable being around other people simply because I was always judging myself in comparison to them. Unfortuantely, during my third semester at school, I came down with bronchitis. It took five months to get over it and I wasn't able to go to class because I couldn't walk ten feet without collapsing. After months of antibiotics the doctors put me on a steroid and an inhaler as a last resort. I finally got over the bronchitis but I did so with a rapid weight gain. I was once again back at my original weight and size 28 again. My friends who had once been bigger then me were all losing a ton of weight and now I was once again that fat kid in the corner. They both did so by eating healthy. A couple of weeks ago I decided to start eating healthy and working out as much as my body could handle. I have started out really well. I am now in a 24 and losing more each day.
