Skipping!!

Hi, I was just wondering if skipping (rope) is a good way to lose weight. I know you have to have a good diet and exercise, but I wanted to know if Skipping is a good exercise? I am a chubby girl with a tummy, and some not so nice legs, and I know there is no such thing as target weight loss, But i was wondering if Skipping will help shed the fat? (Not only in those areas). I am eating healthy, and going for daily walks,I also play Wii ( Boxing/Tennis). I wanted to know skipping could help me lose weight! Thanks!

I'm certainly not an expert, but I do go under the theory that any exercise is better than none, so in that respect, yes, skipping is good for you. As far as how much, I'm really not sure. But I've heard it's a decent workout.

The Navy recommends skipping while in submarines as a replacement for running. So yes, skipping is considered a good exercise by many people.

With that said, if you can do variations with skipping, then yes, it is a good exercise. I usually do it in my garage during the winters when it's raining and cold outside.

If you are unable to jump through the rope, then you can do a 1-2-1 (what I call it) where you jump once, then cross while pretending to jump through the rope, then jump once, and repeat. This will build up your ability to skip and it's all about the counts in seconds between the point where it passes your legs, loops over your head, come back down to your feet.

Yes, jump rope is an excellent exercise to do as part of an overall training and nutrition plan. If you want to get your mind blown (and if you don't I respect that) look up rosstraining and watch that guy go at it.
