Edited to add...who I am! I am 42 yr old mom of four, ages 21 16 13 and 6
I have High BP, (sometimes dangerously high), and weigh 162 at five feet three inches. I would much rather weigh 120, but love how I feel at or below 140. Honestly never weighed that little since teenage years, but with a potential of diabetes because it runs in my family, I say why not?
I plan on seeing my youngest graduate, so have lots of motivation there.

Glad to have found the forum, hi yall!

Hi SkinnyKate

Nice to meet you. Glad to have you aboard. It is great to see yet another mother taking charge of her health. I think we immerse ourselves in our family when the children are young and as they grow we have a little more time to focus on ourselves.

I am a young 46 have 2 boys 12 and 14 --- 3 if you count my husband.... Since I have put on 70 lbs my cholesterol is high and I dont always feel real good about myself. But my family loves me unconditionally and is great motivation and support. My hubby doesnt even think I am fat. He has blinders on I guess...

Your menus look great. :D You are doing great on your water and your walking. I see you are a popcorn lover... me too... It always seemed like a harmless snack.

You will be losing those 20lbs before long. Keep up the good work.

thanks for that!

and I agree, putting others before self is definitely a 'mama' trait that can sure backfire. We all know the old saying 'if mama aint happy, NOBODY's happy!"

How true! Its time to take care of me so I can be around for a while! And I am happy now, happy to take some control back. Its not going to be easy initially, but I have a lot of determination.

Nice to meet yall!

Wow, you seem like you are def. on a roll! Keep up the wonderful work, I bet you will see results in no time! :)

hi kate and welcome

i love cucumbers soaked in vinegar - its not to add with a roast dinner too yum lol

my name is sez and i recently emigrated from the uk its hard to get used to the way everyone works in cup sizes here - i thought i was doing ok until someone pointed out to me a cup does not mean a cup as in cup and saucer its a tiny cup you buy that fits about 3 peas in lol

ah well !! ya live and learn:rolleyes:

Hi Sez!

Hey, many many years ago I had a dear friend that I met in Greece from the UK. I even introduced her to her future husband! It was the first and last time I ever hooked two people up where it worked out so well!

Thanks for the very warm welcome, and I have similiar problems with the metric system. Guess the US has a hard time switching.

I sometimes have trouble with the metric system too, at least in terms of food measurement. Most Canadians are strange in that we use metric for height and weight, and empirical for everything else, lol. I have learned that 1L of water is about 35oz, so to get the daily suggested intake of 80oz, I need to drink between 2.5 and 3 L of water.

Decided that my weigh in day is Mondays

Wanted to just write some other stuff...I need to tell my sister to come here as well, because we are kind of doing this together long distance. She is 8 yrs younger and is soo smart and soo pretty. AND she's newly divorced with 3 kids to raise!

Hello! Welcome to the forum! I am glad you found this site, and I know you will be able to find a lot of support. Your food is looking good and you seem to be very motivated, so I am sure you will do well! :)

Thanks Hypohippo

Well, I keep a mirror on the wall right next to my favorite chair, and I was blessed with a big double chin, so anytime I wanna cheat I just glance in my mirror! That motivates me like crazy!

I find the best way to stick to it is attitude firstly, and glancing at my goals list that I keep on my desktop. And of course support like here!

Bummed out a little today, because I woke up with aching knees. That has never happened to me before. Decided to take a little rest from my afternoon walk. Strangely though, I found that just using the legs and walking DID tend to take the pain away. Plans on some really good motrin for tomorrows walk. Thinking that should help some. That, plus rest.

Food is GREAT, though!

I just eat the 94 percent fat free mini bags usually and throw in a handfull of thin pretzels. I know me well enough to know that without that salty snack, Id be doomed on this diet!

So far going kind of slow here. Sundays=lazy days for me.
But finally had a GREAT walk this morning! Still sweating and tackled a half mile long fairly steep hill. Yahoo! Plan on incorporating my slower walk with the kids again this afternoon. Knees are doing waay better.

3 mile walk so far today

So far
Banana small 50
Not enough water...will drink 2 glasses right away.
and have me a decent lunch.

wanted to add something that is a delicious low cal sauce from Greece I love!

Tzatziki: Traditional Yogurt, Cucumber, and Garlic Dip

In Greek: ????????, pronounced dza-DZEE-kee

Tzatziki is traditionally served as an appetizer and can be left on the table as an accompaniment to foods throughout the meal. The key to great tzatziki is the thick creamy texture that allows it to be eaten alone, as a dip, as a spread, and as a condiment.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup of low fat yogurt
4 to 10 cloves of garlic, diced( I use garlic salt)
1/2 cup of peeled, diced or shredded cucumber
1 tablespoon of olive oil( I use spray olive oil)
2 teaspoons of lemon juice
PREPARATION:

Prepare all ingredients in advance. Combine oil and lemon juice in a medium mixing bowl. Fold the yogurt in slowly, making sure it mixes completely with the oil. Add the garlic, according to taste, and the cucumber. Stir until evenly distributed. Garnish with a bit of green and serve well chilled.

I put this in a pita alone, but you can use just a few tablespoons of it in a pita like a dressing and add your turkey or whatever. I even eat it alone!

Hey girl thanks for the words of encouragement in my diary! You'll be at your goal weight in no time. BTW Tzatziki is one of my favourites!!! YUM. And you make your own, outstanding, I always get lazy and buy the store bought stuff! Your doing great.

cheers
michelle

oh my gosh, i didnt know you could buy it premade!

When I lived there, many many moons ago, I actually lost weight without really trying. We walked everywhere, for one. Or walked a mile till we got a cheap taxi, and the food is deeliciious! Souflaki, greek salads, Feta Cheese pies, olives. and oh lord the pistachios!!

to this day i still try to eat this stuff, and luckily my Greek landlady taught me how to make some of it. My son was born there, and she used to watch him for me when she felt it was too cold for a baby to be out. I even named my daughter after her!

mmmm mediterrean food!!
