sizes

I was wondering how much weight you need to lose to fit into a smaller size. I really like to to how much weight I need to lose to reach my perfect weight. So which kind of experiences did you make? A friend of mine said 25lbs, but I think that is a little too much, isn't it?

You really need to give more information if you are hoping to get some sort of vague answer. Height, weight, current size, goal size.

Why is your goal to fit into a certain size instead of being healthy? What if now because you are older than before it be unhealthy to be a certain size?

Body shape, height and other factors have to be considered. I've lost 22 lbs and am not in a smaller size yet, but then again, I'm six feet, so for me it would be closer to 30lbs to go down a size. I also have a thick middle and no hips, which is another factor. Everyone is different.

took me over 80lbs to get out of the biggest size I was in - -then it was about every 20 lbs or so...

depends on the body type

I really like to to how much weight I need to lose to reach my perfect weight.
your perfect weight isn't a number -it's how you feel - it's your fitness level, it's what you see in the mirror...

I've lost 47 lbs and have dropped 4-5 dress sizes. But clothing sizes, women's especially, aren't consistent. If you want to be a size six, figure out how much of a weight loss it took you to drop your first dress size and then do the math. That said, I had an experience like Mal's. I lost 25 lbs and dropped two dress sizes and then I had a "whoosh" a couple months later and practically lost two more dress sizes all at once. And what I'm about to say reinforces what I said about how sizes lack consistency. I am in 10s now, in multiple pairs of pants. But I still have these really skinny, low-rise size 12 jeans I bought months and months ago that still don't fit. See? I'd worry more about measuring yourself with a tailor's tape than using clothes to gauge your loss in inches.

Amen. This last week, I've worn:
- a pair of size 15 jeans
- a size 6 dress
- a bunch of size 10 and 12 stuff

All of them fit me more or less the same, and there's some chance I'd fit in size 8 pants if I actually owned some.

I can sometimes get frustrated with the sizes thing myself. I am currently in a 14 pant/jean and can now fit into a medium shirt. But what I don't get is that I see and hear of others who appear to be larger then me am say they are in a 12. (I'm 167lbs and 5 foot 5ish)

I'm sure its has to do with my shape and I know that I should not focus on size or compare myself to others. I just can't help but be curious as to what will the size be when I reach my goal. At this rate, I tend to doubt single digits.

I was mostly in 12s at 155 and 5'4". At 165, there's absolutely no way I could have gotten into anything smaller than a 14, and a 16 fit me better.

If you're going for 150, I'd guess a size 10. I couldn't quite get into a 10 at that weight, but you have an inch on me.

My favorite clothes memory from my teenage years was a pair of size 4 jeans. They were cut just right for me, because everything else I owned was an 8. (I have no illusions that I'll ever fit into a size 4 anything again, alas.)

I don't know how old you two ladies are, but I'm sure age, general frame size, and hormones, and bone density have something to do with actual body weight.

My aunt, who is my height (5'4"), and 70-years-old, and in pretty decent shape, is a solid size 14. She weighs 25 lbs less than I do. (She weighs 150, while I weigh 175.) Also, since she's 70, she doesn't wear jeans the way I wear jeans. She prefers them more loose-fitting, whereas I prefer them more snug. Anyway, my point is, we own the same pair of jeans. I actually gave her the 14s when I could no longer fit in them and then bought myself some 12s. And now I sport some 10s in the same pair of jeans. Her body is quite different from mine though. She has rather wide hips, but practically no ass. According to her, she's never had a butt. I, on the other hand, have wide hips and (according to my boyfriend) am "rumpy."

I'm 5'7 and have 20lbs on you- and wear a 12 in pants... but a 14/16 top - 14/large if it doesn't have buttons 16 if it does... it's all about where your weight is distributed....

for me it's about one size per 10lbs I lose, and I'm 5'6
so it goes

180s - size 14
170s - size 12
160s - size 10
150s - size 8
etc.

But that's just what works for me, I don't know about other people...

When I started I was a 6(AU10) at 138lbs.

I still wear size 6's, but they're a lot looser. Now I usually buy 2's and 4's.
I'm 122lbs and 5'7".

My jean size has roughly stayed the same, between a 4 and a 6. But in pants, skirts, jackets, tops I had all gone down a size.

I know that I'm 200lbs, and yet I wear a 14 pants and a medium top (tee shirt only)

Except, that for me, I have a rather large chest, and large muscular shoulders and have to go up to 18 in jacket/nice shirt size to get something that will go around my shoulders in a comfortable fashion.

Like Mal said, it's all about where you pack it.

I read all your statements. Unfortunately it is probably not possible to say in general how much weight you need to lose to fit into a smaller size. Your experiences are very different. That's a pity. I thought I could already buy clothes in smaller size and calculate when they would fit me :)

what has been a great motivator for me was/is to buy something i really like in one size smaller than I currently am - and try it on weekly til it fits -then move on to the next size...

this might not help you since I am a guy but when I started dieting I was wearing 36" waist jeans and they were really tight on me. Yesterday I just bought 32" jeans and I fit in them comfortably for a first time. So for me around 20lbs loss counts to 2" in waist or there abouts.

GENERALLY it is 8kg to a clothing size (eg. you lose 7kg you could go from a 10 to an 8).

8kg = 17.5lbs

Oh thanks a lot for this piece of information! Where did you read about this fact? If you read it in the internet it would be great if you could give me the link. Well anyways I guess I am going to forecast the week when I am going to reach my perfect weight :)
