Sit-ups...to much?

Hi im 14 and i am doing 100 sit ups in the morning and 500 sit ups at night, when i do my 500 situps i do them in 5 reps with a 30 second break between each rep. When i started out i got abit sore, but now im just not feeling anything, im wondering have i done to much or am i doing to much? and should i take some protien shakes?

Thanx

Do you do them every day? Abs are like every other muscle and need rest.

Yes i do them everyday, but i also forgot to mention that i also do 50 crunches in the morning and 50 crunches at night. Should i take some protien powder? and if i have to rest my abs how long for?

Just to clarify, a rep is one. Like one sit-up. A set is the number of reps you do in the sitting. Like 100 reps per set.

And now...

What are your goals? Do you want a six pack or do you just want a good ab workout? These are the things you should state first.

If you are doing a lot of sit-ups and feel no stress, try different ab workouts. Try leg lifts, V-ups, crunches, weights, etc. The main thing about a workout is if you keep doing them, your muscles will get used to them and you will thus lose the work in the work out. Unless your goal is to hold the record for most sit-ups in the world, you should not increase reps (especially when you get to high reps) but change the exercise and come back to sit-ups later.

I think abs or the core is the most vital body part and should be worked everyday. Now this doesn't have to mean 500 sit-ups, but it does mean there isn't a day when you're not using it.

thanx 4 clarifying the reps and sets for me, um yes my goal is to get a nice six pack, and then from there i wana work on getting an eight pack.

I also do leg lifts where i ly on the groun like im doin a crunch and lift my legs out straight and bring them in and out again 50 times, i also do 50 crunches in the morning and 50 in the afternoon. I also work with 5 kg weights and i do pushups.

I never get sore from my exercises afterwards but when im doin them its pretty hard.

Okay, that's pretty good, you might want to look into the supplements and vitamins section for protien related answers. And as always if you want to get a big six pack, work crunches with weights or try to get as much resistance as possible. And primarily, so more cardio to get rid of your fat, if you have any. I think you were talking about running for 30 min a day or something, but once again, you'll lose the effect if your body gets used to it so mix it up and just get your body workin hard. Remember to push it hard because even if your body is used to it, it will feel hard near the end or so because your body knows it's time to quit, so it almost quits on you.

ok thanx heaps, ill give it all a go. I went out today and have gotten some whey perfect protien, c if that helps. Um yes ill use some weights when im doin crnches but how heavy and how do i hold them? Ill continue doing my jogging for 30 mins and ill give some other exercise a go.

Thanx again

Do you have weight plates or just dumbells? You would typically hold both across your chest. Try to gain access to a decline or incline bench for some good workouts as well.

Decline for sit-ups/crunches, incline for leg lifts. Or, you can find a place to hang upside down and do em.

Yeh i only have dumbells. Ill see if i can get the benches. When u said "And primarily, so more cardio to get rid of your fat, if you have any. I think you were talking about running for 30 min a day or something" does that mean u think i should be doing more than 30 minutes a day? or is that fine?

Just enough to push yourself for like 20 min or whatever the duration is these days. If 30 min of running isn't working you like it used to, switch it up a bit.

Dont do that many situps or you'll wreck your back in a couple weeks time. approaching the hundreds is ridiculously too much. You shud do like 2 sets of 50 at most. If you want to increase difficulty just situp with a weight on your chest or do decline on a bench. I don't recommend doing situps frequently though because they wear down your low back if you workout alot. I do leg raises on a flat bench. and alot of ab exercises that focus on giving you core strength.

guys thanx sooooo much ur advice has helped alot, just one last question, how long will it take to get rid of the remainging fat around my stomach? if im doing what im doin now? and is it alot to do with diet to? because i have a pretty low calorie diet.

It ain't just about low calorie if you're burning it off. To burn off all the fat you'll want to get your metabolism going at a rapid pace so put in a lot of good cals and burn out the fat. I don't know exactly what you're doing and how it feels to you.

Ive heard alot about good calories and good carbohydrates but what are they and what foods are they in? And how will i be able to increase my metabolisim alot?

Thanx again everyone, especially LeiYanFat, uve helped me and others alot, u must know heaps! great advice to ;)

Good calories are basically calories delivered by a healthy source like vegetables or meats. I mean you can get calories from Oreo's but they aren't the healthiest things to be putting in your system. Calories are calories, but I don't know that much about carbs other than there are complex and refined carbs, the complex ones being better for you than refined.

Basically if you want to speed up your metabolism you'll want to be really active and get a lot of food in you. Think of it like a fire. The more you stoke it, the hotter it burns. But it depends a lot on your genes as well.

Lol I try to help when I can and if I can offer some experiences then I try my best. I've learned a lot from just surfing on these forums, so don't feel confined to only your threads! Good luck.
