Sideways Chin ups

I assume these are not easy. not easy at all. What are the primary muscles that one uses to perform this task. I wish to eventualy be able to do 10. just one of my goals

i think he means when you hold on to a pole thats stuck in the ground, vertical, then use you're core to lift your body so it stands horizontal straight out from the bar, then pull yourself towars the bar.
if its those you need a STRONG core, other than that, alot of the same muscles a normal pullup uses, remember to train both sides equally, since you hang the muscles on both sides of the body are not worked equally.

Aloha & Howzit!

The sideway chinups are called "Flag Pullups" which I first read about in a book titled Weightless Workout that was publised by The Health-For-Life Press. The first publication I recieved was in 1983 and was titled
"Legendary Abs" and after that a volume of Synergism workout/exercise routines followed.
I haven't kept up with the pulbications since 1998 but you can try there website life.com. I not sure if they changed ir recently.

The flag pullups are very strenuous because of the horizontal body-postion.
The strain will be on the joint and muscle attachments of the upper extrimities and crevical spine and then the lower trunk attachments.
The greatest force one will encounter and have to work with will be earth's gravational pull...but it can be done if there is strong interest and great patience. The key to accomplish these exercise-fitness task comes by understanding and learning what is called "The Least-path-of-resistance.
Learning to work With-your-body and not focus on your body.

Anyway, the flag pullup/pushout is something that you truly need to ask yourself "why" before "how".
Hope this info helps a bit.
Good health to you and aloha for now!
