Sick and Tired

I have been heavy set all my life and a few weeks ago I weighed myself in at a grand total of 333lbs and I just don't want to live like my father does. So I started the next day ate close to nothing figuring my calorie intake was about 500-1500 at that time and i was doing 1ish hours or strenuous exercise I was worn down and tired, but after 2 weeks I had lost 18lbs going to 315 ( current weight ) the results where good but my attitude about the whole thing was negative and I didn't feel any better.

I figured I needed to be eating more so I uped my calorie intake to 1500-2000. My two questions here is what would a good work out be for some one like me? I have acess to a stair master treadmill and a bike. And also diet. I am 20 6'1" and 315lbs.

Any help would be great
Thank you

welcome to the forum. you may find better support at our sister forum - weight loss support forum. however, you will still find good help here.

anyway, you were right to up your calories. it's not healthy or safe to eat that little. you should be able to get some pretty good weight loss from keeping your caloric intake at a normal level ... around 2000 ... BUT, that still means it has to be healthy. no junk food, or caloricly empty stuff. I would also keep the carbs down.

you will probably get the best workout on the stair master ... do a min of 30 minutes of sweaty creating work (get the heart rate up around 140) 4-5 / week.

for workouts, i would suggest doing some pushups and Free Exercises, Fitness Equipment, Customized Workout, Fitness Programs, Fitness Articles, Beauty Fitness, Weight Loss, Weight Training, Diet Plans

... do the power of 3 :) ... 3/week by 3 exercises by 3 sets of each by 15 reps (at least it's divisible by 3)

... a simple workout like that and you'd be surprised about how much you can lose. however, never forget that it's all about what you eat.

AllCdnBoy your link was "eaten up" by the anti-spam bot. To the OP I lost a bucketload of weight by combining vigorous exercise and a caloric deficit diet. Don't starve yourself or go on a fad/crash diet. Drink plenty of mineral water every day and multivitamins.

He was not trying to spam, just that his link was replaced by the anti-spam feature. Its best to use the preview feature or your link will end up like that.

Good....the first step has to be mental. Much like an alcoholic or drug-user has to hit the "low"...so too do we have to find our motivation, determination and discipline to overcome tough obstacles. For many people they just one day look in the mirror and "snap"....it's on!

If you get into this and fall off the wagon and re-gain the weight, then you've wasted your time & effort...so this time you really have to make it your divine goal & mission to truly make it happen. Why try and fail?....go all the way.

It's not very difficult, calories in vs. calories out and some exercise is all it takes. There's more to it then that, but that's the basis of it all. I'd VERY MUCH suggest some remedial education so you have an idea what your up against. I like the book "You on a diet" by doctors Oz...in it they explain the whole thing....it really helps to understand why you're overweight and how your body reacts to dieting, etc. Much like going into battle where you need weapons, so to do you need education so that you can make smart decisions and attack this right.

When you succeed, you'll agree it's the most important and best thing you've ever done or can do for yourself! :D

46M,
You are on the right track. I think the 1st thing is to be sure you don't cut your calories too low. If you are starving and miserable it's likely you won't do too well. Go to fitday.com, create an account, enter all your info and it will give you an idea of how many calories your body burns each day. It has a place to enter exercise, foods eaten etc. I have found it very useful. The best thing about it is that you can eat a surprisingly large amount of food and still lose the weight. It's so hard to remember, but the weight didn't come on overnight and it will take a while for it to come off. I would say you should be fine with at least 2000 calories per day along with some type of cardio 5 days/wk as suggested above. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress. Take care, Greg

I just don't get it....

I've only been active for about one month and yet I've seen several people join the forum, profess their intent to lose weight & start a program....they make one single post crying for help, answers to questions and wanting information...AND THEN THEY DISAPPEAR. Single thread/post never to be heard from again.

It'd be one thing to post a thread and then sit on it interacting with people...asking more questions, making more post, etc....but no; they just start the thread and seemingly never return to see repsonses or get into it. GreenhornGal was an exception; she was legit....but these many other people, I just dont get it?? I hope I'm wrong, but this seems like a pattern.

It's been 3 days and 46M is a no-show. Enough. Just makes me prouder to be part of the exclusive 1% of people who actually do follow-through and lose their weight & reach their goals.

5 days without a sign from 46M.....

That's it...I'm officially done with giving serious time to any of these fatty-come-lately's....:(

The reasons he's fat is because he can't bridge the gap between WANTING to lose weight and actually putting down the bag of Doritos and doing something about it.

Maybe he followed AllCdnBoy's advice and moved over to the weight-loss site...?

Aslo, don't forget other people are reading your advice beside the OP, so it's not a waste.

Thanks =)

To let you who care to know all is going well doing 30mins on a treadmill every morning and then another half hours or 3 reps of 15 on the weight lifting machine available ( working out a variety of different muscles ) giving me about another half hour or decent cardio. I have been keeping my calories just at bellow or above 2000 and I am feeling positive about the whole thing. Thank you guys for all the good advice and I am looking at my road to recovery =). I will attempt to keep you updated with school being soo busy and work on top of that it is a bit difficult to keep on top of things I would like to. And just to let you know Bike I haven't had Doritos in a good while.

Peace

46...

Good to hear from you!!!!

You have to understand, a lot of people show-up & post their first post...they plea their case, bid for help and then never post again. It's frustrating because we really take the time to care and try to help. I'd much rather eat crow then think you're out there eating ding-dongs & twinkies! :D

I applaud your cardio in the morning, I myself felt a nice improvement in results and progress when I started implementing my cardio towards the earlier part of the day. Good for you, keep on it!

Rugby

I have a few friends who are playing and I have got involved last week and love the sport and plan to do it every week from now on out =)

Just a update

Sounds like your on the transition to a whole new lifestyle - which is exactly whats needed for success. Keep at it..;)

Okay so I am Posting back giving you an update and wanting some info on my current diet. I now weigh just under 280lbs from when I first came here ^,^.

Now here is my question I am taking in 2000-2500 calories per day. Of my fat Protein and Carbs of my daily diet. I am taking in 27% fat, 47% carbs, and 26% protein ( Average from the past few months ) I am just wondering if what I have going on with the intake of my card, protein, and fat is good of I f I have too much or too little of one.

Cheers,
Russ
