Shoulder surgery

Well this will be my second post. On 06May2008 I had to have my left, dominate, shoulder operated on. I hurt it at work during an alterication and tore four ligaments. The surgery went good and haven't started pt yet. I go back to the doctor on the 10th and he will probally move it around and see where we go from there. I hope to be back to full strength here soon. Has anyone else had this done?

I can tell you that it is killing me just sitting around the house with my arm just in a sling and not really being able to do anything.

I had torn ligaments as well, and I went a while without having surgery. I put it off forever, and finally the big dislocation (4th) had me change my mind. After surgery I had to wait 1 week before starting PT. PT was good, the only really painful part was the stretching. I started working out 4 mos. after the surgery, but it took another month or so to get back to "normal" routines with full range of motion. That first month was really, really, really light weight, and slow motion seeing how far I could take it. Having to start over on pullups was the worst part...lol.

Now, 2 yrs. later, and I don't have any problems. Only exercise that I still can't do is squats :( I've tried every position possible for the bar, with and without the pad, and it just doesn't work. I can not find a comfortable shoulder and arm position. When I finish a set (with light weight), I have to sit there for a second after racking, and think about letting go of the bar and moving my arm. Lunges and Deads seem to be working fine though.

Overall, 2 years later, I'm in the best shape of my life. I lift 5 days a week, and run/play tennis 1-2 days per week. It was a 6 month set back, but I'm better off now.

Good luck with everything, and keep us posted with your progress.

Well I went to the doctor today and got looked at. It was a good visit and he said taht i could ditch the sling unless I needed it. Start pt on Thursday so it might be a rough few couple more weeks but we shall see.

Hope your not planning to do any heavy shoulder work any time soon.
Start off really light, and when i mean light, i mean just the bar.

No not at all I have went through pt when I first hurt it so I konw to take it light and relax on it. I dont plan on doing any lifting for a whilie with it. I just want to get back to the point where I can start running and biking again.
