Shopping Victories

So I have a shopping victory to share with you. I wanted to go out and buy a new pair of jeans as I am going out with the girls tonight. So I used to wear a size 15, then dropped to a 13. Just for kicks I thought I would try on a size 11 and I did and they were too big!! So then I decided to see if a size 9 would fit and it did!! I bought those suckers right away. I can't remember the last time I could wear a single digit piece of clothing. I was so excited I just thought I would share.

I would like to hear about anyone else's shopping victories, the times when you have really noticed more then just a change on the scale.

When I went from waist 33 (my jeans were marginally too big for my boyfriend) to Miss Sixty wasit 26.

What annoys me though is when now I fit into a really small size because of "vanity" sizing. I'm a UK size 8/10 bottom, UK 10/12 top, which in theory translates as a US 4-6, US 6-8. Half of the shops in the UK I need to take a 8 top now. I have some designer bikinis and other items of clothing from the states that are a size US 6 and fit like a glove, the way it should be - otherwise every single item I have except these are tiny because of vanity sizing: my boyfriend brought me a US 2 dress and it's one size too big so I have to tape it to my boobs with double sided tape so it doesn't fall off. Gap jeans I need a 2 or even a 0 - I AM NOWHERE NEAR A SIZE 0!! I don't have bones sticking out everywhere, actually. My friend showed me a real size 0 dress (some posh designer) and it's absolutely minute I couldn't even get passed mid-thigh.

I don't like shopping at all, so like to shop online, but now I cannot order anything online unless I know that brand's fit.

Anyone else highly irritated by this? I just wish every single retailer would stick to the same measurements for a given size.

I wish there was some way to make sizes universal! It would make things so much easier!

I've been working really hard to be able to fit in a US Junior's size 19, and today I bought a size 19 tank top that fits really, really, well, and I found a pair of US size 26 (which I'm pretty sure should be a US 24 because this place usually makes their clothes on the small side) jeans that fit reallyyy well in the waist but are big in the thighs...but I've learned to expect that because my legs are really slim compared to the rest of me.

hi and well done. its a good feeling isnt it when you can slip into smaller clothes. i never used to buy hardly any clothes now you cant stop me.
ive gone from a uk size 22/24 to a 14 (?us 10). yesterday i bought a slim fitting size 14 jeans which make me look skinnier than i am, with a 29" waist which chuffed me no end. i think my waist was 40 + when i started.
from what i gather at least in the uk something called "vanity sizing " has happened. the labelling has stayed the same, but the measurements have got bigger. i have clothes from when i was thin many years ago. a new size 14 fits, slightly big possibly. one of my old size 14`s is tight. i also found a size 10 skirt with a 24" waist. cant believe i could fit into it. i think a uk size 10 today would be at least 2 " bigger. slim

^ very true about vanity sizing. It really annoys me. A size 8 jean at Miss Selfridge is a bit loose 1/2 of the time, but my waist is 26inches. Ridiculous. I also end up having to buy size 6/10 teeshirts there (Im a 32C - hardly a 6)althought their petite range is ok - I fit in a 10. I even have size 0 items from the US!! MAD!

I think the vanity sizing problem must really affect people who are naturally petite and short - people with an ickle bone structure, small hips, waists and ribcages, who are slim. Where do they shop now? Children's?!

I love shopping now...I just know I'm going to turn into one of those people who has WAY TOO MANY clothes! :rotflmao:

I have this problem now! I used to be a size 4 petite (I'm only 5'0"). Now when I try on the size 4's, the waists are way too big for me! It's very difficult to find size 2's, especially a 2P for some reason, so I only have 2 pairs of jeans that still fit me somewhat. I've been shopping a few times for jeans and came away empty handed every time after trying on many pairs. Children's sizes won't work because they have no hips!

Way to go everyone. It really makes a difference to one's own outlook on their weight loss to be able to fit in clothes that you didn't think you could. A mini motivational boost.

I just wish they'd do womens pants the same way they do mens! A 32 inch waist is a 32 inch waist be it male or female. GRR. What the heck is a size ten or eight, or what have you anyway? It is very frustrating to go to one store and fit in one size then go to another store and that size is to tight or to loose. It does need to be more universal!

No shopping joys here, but I fit into almost half the pants in my closet now!!! Someday I'll fit into all the pants in my closet :).
