The show Shaq's Big Challenge inspires me and motivates me to lose more weight! I watch nearly every episode.

Does anyone else feel that way?

We sure do!!

Yea, i love the show too. anyone see the commercials for the Fat Walk thing?? Looks interesting.

All you need is a pair of sneakers! Twelve overweight people set off on the walk of a lifetime! It's an epic, life-changing journey that begins at the starting line for the Boston Marathon and ends in Washington, DC. The contestants and their two charismatic fitness trainers, Steve Pfiester and Lorrie Henry, will walk over 570 miles, passing through nine states, with the goal of shedding unwanted pounds and getting fit along the way in an attempt to permanently alter their lives. In addition, they all will compete for a prize pool of $1.2 million. Stressing team work, the more people who finish, the more money each person wins, on Fat March, premiering MONDAY, AUGUST 6 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

During each leg of the excursion there are "luxury reward challenges" where an individual or team can win incentives such as spa treatments, low calorie gourmet meals prepared by a private chef or deluxe accommodations for the night to help them on their trip. There are also amazing prizes at stake, such as get-aways to Hawaii and Las Vegas. The challenges are geographically specific to the area contestants are in. At the elimination, participants are able to expel a group member who is holding them back from reaching the finish line in the allotted time. However, eliminating a fellow competitor has a price: $10,000 is deducted from each competitor's potential prize money with each elimination.

As for their diet during the trip, the contestants eat five small meals each day, a combination of all natural whole grains, lean poultry, fresh vegetables and fruits.

Following are the 12 contestants walking through city streets and the countryside, completing special challenges along the way.

Fat March is based on the British series, Too Big to Walk. A TV parental guideline will be posted closer to airdate.

Oooh parental guideline -I do smell a Long Walk type challenge :D

I think Shaqs big challenge is a good idea, but it stresses drama not centered around weight loss (impertinent kids and parents, etc) too much in comparison to the actual weight loss.
Shaquille O'neal, at his fittest moment in tiem, was something like 320 pounds and 2 percent body fat. Talk about amazing.

The best way to become permanently motivated is to develop that motivation from within. Whenever anyone needs to depend on an outside source such as a show then you are really giving up your ultimate power, and that is, to create whatever you want. We have always been taught to "see it" first before believing it. The way to achieve how you want your body to look is to "believe it" first, then see it.

It is ok to get motivated from watching a show or a movie. However it is what you are creating from within that yields the results YOU want and it does so every time.

Just a side note, there is no way that he was 2 percent body fat. Anyone who is 2 percent body fat will most likely be either dead or in an extremely unhealthy state and those certainly don't apply to Shaq.

I know I'm in the minority, but I totally dislike the show's concept. I admit I haven't seen the show so I may be 100% wrong. However, studies have shown that classroom education on diet and exercise has very negligible effect on obese children. The reason is that you may be able to work with them 24/7 for a few months or you may be able to work with them an hour a day for a long time, but they have so many other influences at home that without changing their entire family's behaviors in very deep and profound ways, you can't accomplish much. In general I dislike competitive weight loss programming because it is all focused on how much you can take off how quickly instead of long term lifestyle change. As for Shaq, he does have a certain charisma and he's a very good basketball player. However, this is the same man who was the spokesperson for the Burger King including the Double Whopper with cheese.

I do like the idea for the walking show. I have followed the progress of Steve Vaught as well as Paula Constant and I think they were probably the inspiration for the show. I also like that it is teamwork based rather than competitive.

I read it in a sports magazine, it could be incorrect.
