Severe Muscle Pain

I had a personal training session Thursday night (it's currently Saturday) and the upper part of my thighs are killing me. They are so stiff and so sore. I went for a swim earlier today and since coming home it hurt's to walk. Is there any stretching techniques I can do to release the tension in my legs. Any help is beneficial.

Good Question

Hi, I also get severe muscle pain & cramping after doing anything due to my medical challenges, but I do have a couple of ways that help me to manage it when it happens:
  • warm baths w/ Epsom Salts (an old fashioned remedy that really does help a little)
  • drinking tonic water: because it has trace amounts of quinine, it helps w/ charlie horses (I like to add a slice of lime to mine)
  • this one is wierd, I know, but even my hubby has started doing it after realizing it helps: using a rolling pin on the muscle to gently stretch it out
  • soak in a hot tub or hot springs (my favorite)
  • and as a last resort: asking your doctor for a muscle relaxant (but be careful w/ that one!)
  • Mostly just keep on keeping on because it usually gets better the more you do. Getting very stiff after not using those muscles is pretty common! (You mentioned on your other posts, the new diet, running more than you ever had, etc.)

Wishing you relief,
olga p

Thank you for your response. I had a nice hot bath lastnight that my partner ran for me and he gave me a massage aswell and so far this morning I have woken up and everything seems fine. At least I know what to do to stop it from happening again. Thanks for you info, I'll keep them all in mind incase it happens again.

All the suggestions I gave you aren't helping me anymore now that I'm doing more, walking, laps, & exercise. I posted in another place 'cuz I'm having a rough time w/ them. I'm using a rolling pin to stretch out my muscles when they are happening...it hurts like hell. :violent2:

I'm glad that all you needed was a bath & some massage!

Take care,

If you performed any of the following leg exercises during your session, then you are simply experiencing soreness. Very typical.

Lunges
Walking lunges
Leg Extensions
Steps ups
Squats
Split Squats
Leg Press

Thanks, but excruciating charlie horses in everything from my hands to the muscles in my legs, arms, & abdomen/chest are a LOT different than mere sore, achy muscles from just using them!!!!!!!

I can deal w/ sore muscles, but I can't deal w/ sudden, INTENSE charlie horses that have started occuring like they have. They are like 9 or 10 on a scale of 1 to 10, to the point I have trouble breathing & end up laying (or falling) & just bawling. I even wake up from them!!

I really, really wish I was "just" sore. I think that bubbles was just very sore after using muscles she hadn't used for a while, as evidenced by how she got relief fdrom a bath & massage. I also have intense chronic pain in a leg w/ RSD so just being sore is a relief!

Somehow I'm gonna keep on keeping on!

yeah you can get rid of that pain, by stretching but it depends on where the pain is.
You are probably experiencing that pain because maybe you have worked your legs that hard so.

The pain is from microfractures to your muscle fibers. You can't stretch it out. You may be able to relieve some of the soreness by getting into a spa or taking a hot bath and slowly stretching the muscle.

Thank you to those that replied! It is a bit better, I laid off of going at it so hard & decided increase the level of intensity even slower (even tho it's already a snail's pace!!). I keep forgetting I have to go slower at EVERYTHING (everyone around me keeps telling me that) due to some physical challenges I have. You'd think I'd learn after all this time, huh???

I wiped out on wet flooring ar the pool & twisted my ankle from trying to walk too fast this week, so guess my body is gonna make me slow down, no matter what!

sorry can't help you, but wow you're hot. i need 15 posts so i can make a thread. Originally posted by r32faisal:
I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean, that bubbles is HOT looking?? I agree, she's smokin'! I've got a ways to go for a great body (which I'm sure she has), but I WILL GET THERE TOO (someday.) I'm already doing better than when I first came a month ago. :jump1:I just gotta keep on keeping on, pain or no pain. I've got a lot of pain for different several reasons, but I looked at some of your other posts, you've got some similar challenges to what I have. (I've been tested for MS a few times because I have so many MS-like symptoms but I don't have it...so far.)

You've already made threads, so I'm not sure what you are referring to there, either, when you said you need 15 posts as I noticed you've got 16 so far. ;)

Take care,

i spent an hour of my life making those 15 posts.. this one was of the first few. and im allowed to make a thread in new members section before completing the 15 ;)

Drink a lot of water. soreness is probably from the build up of lactic acid.

There is no evidence that soreness is from the build up of lactate. It's an old hypothesis really, from back when they though lactate was the cause of fatigue.

There is a stretch that would be excellent as a temporary relief but I would have to show you in person. :)

Try doing some yoga stretches / poses.
