Settin "unrealistic" goals

I thought I would join this forum to see if I can offer any constructive advice. I have been training a couple girls for soccer, I am very active and love to work out. My outlet? Running! I do maintain a pretty good diet, but I have my days like everyone else.

Setting "unrealistic" goals?

No such thing, sometimes we underestimate what the human body can do. By doing this, we underestimate ourselves! I have had times where I can't run because I'm traveling, and I am not the most pleasant person to be around druring these times. So I regress physically, but I never set the bar lower than what I can actually take.

If you like exercising, increase your workout time 5 min every 10dys, and push harder. Build on your new time every day, begin with a tough expectation. Start doing 10 pushups no matter how long it takes you, if you're good at it, then start at a number where you know you will not be able to go on. Do an extra one every 5 days and build on it.

I eat plain non-fat yogurt every morning with a cut bananna, and that is it! The bacteria in this yogurt burns fat sooo fast I love it! I'm about to turn 25yrs old and I am still at 150lbs, check out my facebook. My name is Benny Paz

No such thing

You're wrong. And I rarely rarely use those words ... because very rarely are people completely wrong or completely right. But in this case ... sorry, you're wrong.

It is completely possible for people to set unrealistic goals, especially when it comes to weight loss and fitness. The biggest reason for that is the media and all the various scam/spam companies that promise someone will lose 1lb a day or whatever. There are people who come on these boards who are heartbroken and think there's something wrong with them because they've "only" lost 10 lbs in a month. They talk about setting a goal of 20 or 30 lbs in a month or 6 weeks and have no idea that this is a totally unrealistic goal.

The diet industry has spawned all kinds of unrealistic goals and beliefs about healthy, weight loss, and fitness ... and people who don't know to research thoroughly often fall for those promises.

So you have never actually tried to lose weight yourself - because you have never been overweight.

Good point there. If you look up his other posts, he's pimping some type of diet ... he's managed to avoid being called out as a spammer by not posting any links, but the refrain of "let me know if you want to hear about my diet" is pretty darned obvious. ;)

Go figure, huh?

?

Spammer? I gave out my name and you can see me on facebook. My point about "unrealistic goals" is from a different perspective. There is common sense involved, but you can acheive any goal you want depending on your committment.

I am a strong believer that anyone can do anything, and your body can take a lot more than what we think. I would like to know more about where you're comming from though, I think that pointing out what the media does is really important! "my diet", I made it up by trying to eat as healthy and light as possible in the morning. I dont even know if it's even a "diet" per say, it's just yogurt and a bananna!

yogurt and a bannana...very light and it may not work for everyone. But I combine it with a lot of running. I have never been "over weight", but I do have it in my genes. Drinking pure water and really keeping myself accountable has helped me stay fit. As I mentioned before, I train a couple girls for soccer, they are overweight and they have dropped a ton of pounds! They like seeing they legs get thinner as they get faster and stronger on the field.

You can do anything you want

I was telling my friend to eat when she wants! Think about it, she doesn't eat all day to not "gain more weight", and when she does eat she empty's the fridge! Instead, she should eat when she actually wants to, healthier and in smaller portions. Naturally her body needs to eat a lot to satisfy her hunger when she hasn't eaten all day!

She is eating when she wants now and the pressure is off of her during the day to not eat

Benny, you have no freakin' clue what you're talking about.

It's all well and fine to tell your friend to eat what she wants when she wants, but for many people who have been overweight for many years ... and not just overweight, but obese and sometimes dangerously so ... our hunger receptors are screwed up. Many of us either learned to use food emotionally or were taught so by our parents or family, mostly unintentionally. Most of us didn't realize that we were using food that way or that we didn't have a real understanding of what "hunger" and "satiety" is ... and managed to "eat what we want" our way to being massively unhealthy and overweight.

You sashay onto this board, having never been overweight, having never (obviously) struggled against the physical, mental, and psychological pain of not having that kind of control, spouting advice. And you think that "training a couple girls in soccer" makes you qualified to do that?

Mind you, not just any advice but massively insulting and bad advice like "no goal is unreasonable" and "eat what you want"???? Ya know, if it were just that easy, then none of us would be here, huh?

Seriously, I rarely get pissed off by what I read on message boards - it's not worth my time to get that bent over words on a screen, but your arrogance is pissing me off tonight. Maybe it's that your posts hit after a particularly bad weekend, but quite frankly I find your posts demeaning, insulting, and obnoxious.

Nice of the skinny guy who admits "I have never been "over weight" to come in here and tell us fatties how to do it.

LOL is this supposed to mean you're old at 25 yrs so wow for you being able to keep your weight at 150 lbs? Sorry honey, it is dead easy to keep one's weight down at age 25. That is considered young by almost all standards, aside from a teenager's. As Sarah Palin says "thanks but no thanks" for your offer of "expertise". Many of us actually do know what we're talking about without your expert assistance LOL.

I have been able to connect to people that are growing up with a lot of difficulties. Kara, sorry about your weekend I really am. You dont have to get pissed? I may learn about what you've said, maybe you'll find something in what I have said. I'm really sorry if I've offended you in any way....

I never said eat what you WANT, but when you want and Healthy. Being young doesn't always help you keep weight off, most of my friends cant so generalizing isn't a good idea...

I am surprised you that you wont simpathize to younger girls that are haveing a hard time at school and that are reaching goals (physically) that they never thought they could

I never said eat what you WANT, but when you want and Healthy.
And again, you clearly have no understanding of how obesity works for some people. For many of us who are or were emotional eaters "when you want" means eating all the time. Many of us became overweight not because we ate unhealthy food (although some of us ate that too) but because we ate healthy food all the time. We ate because we were happy, because we were sad, because we were angry, because we were celebrating, because we were with friends, because it was Friday or Saturday or the ball game or in the car or ... or ... or. We wanted to eat ALL THE TIME.

And then conversely, many of us didn't want to eat all the time. Many of use ate one meal a day, but it was a massively unhealthy 6000 calorie meal. Many of us were rarely hungry for hours at a stretch and then we'd binge until we were so full we could barely move. That was how we ate when we "wanted" to eat.

There are a lot of things that go into the psychology of being overweight and making comments like "just eat when you want to" is insulting to those of us who have struggled for many years to try to figure out why we want to eat, why we eat what we eat, and why we eat when we eat.

Again, if it were as simple as "eat when you want and eat healthy", many of us wouldn't be here in the first place.

I am surprised you that you wont simpathize to younger girls that are haveing a hard time at school and that are reaching goals (physically) that they never thought they could
This is a total red herring comment and equally insulting. You might as well say that I don't care about people starving in the Sudan either. I never said anything about those girls and to imply that I don't have sympathy for them because I called you out is just plain dumb. My comments are directed specifically at you - just because you managed to help some girls become more active doesn't mean you're qualified to come on here and make glib comments about how people who are overweight should "just eat when you want to".

Look, I'm trying to not be pissed at you and give you the benefit of the doubt, but it's hard. You obviously are young and have some things to learn.

Benny - the truth is that you probably know about as much about fighting obesity as I know about soccer.

My husband watches it and I have seen quite a few games on the TV. Hey my nephew is a professional rugby player for Harlequins and rugby is similar to soccer - right. Maybe I should just pop over to your favourite soccer coaching forum and post a bit of my expert advice. Offer to give a few soccer wannabe's a bit of help - it is nice for us all to help the young....

For me the most unrealistic goal in this entire thread is your belief that you are some kind of expert that can help people with very serious problems.

The truth is that while a dish of yoghurt and a banana may be great fuel for someone of 150 pounds to last them for a while - a severely morbidly obese person needs to be aiming to eat a fair bit differently. They burn a lot more than a 150 pound person.

Imagine you were carrying a 150 pound or 200 pound weight (extra to your bodyweight) every step of the day and let me know whether you think you have done some exercise without even trying to run. Maybe you have a friend you could carry around for a while....

Anyone really big is setting themselves up for a fall if they try to live off your calorie level. They will cave in - eat more - feel terrible about themselves - and possibly never come back to the forum...

I have just been checking and Kara - I can see what you mean about his posting elsewhere meaning that Benny is beginning to look a bit like a spammer.

Keep it up! Have you heard of the enzyme diet? which one are you trying?

I have some diet solutions, I train hard and keep fit, if you're interested let me know!

You could try the enzyme diet, you loose weight and get healthier all simultaneously. I have a great site, if you're interested let me know!

Especially when the website that he links to shows that he sells diet products for a living and is the representative for this diet. Guess what - you have to go to Benny to buy the bits - and it doesnt come that cheap...
