Being overweight was just one problem I had related to food. I would get really weak and super hungry around lunch, binge, then have a food coma in the afternoon. I'd get hungry again, eat late, and sleep poorly.
I made a change in my diet and now don't get too hungry, don't binge, have more energy, and sleep about an hour more (and more restfully). I did a lot of research before I changed my diet, and I didn't read up on or follow any established 'plans' - I just did some reading and decided to have a simple start:
Avoid high glycemic index foods completely, limit intake of medium glycemic index foods, and eat mostly low glycemic index foods.
Get more exercise, which, for me, for now, means walking a golf course twice a week (4 miles x 2).
I started this about three months ago and have lost just over 20 pounds. I'm slowing down my loss, so I think I need to:
1) Look out for total caloric intake and try and reduce it by reducing fats where possible
2) Up the exercise
I have no time goal for reaching my ideal weight, I'd just like to make progress -- even slow progress -- that I can measure.
I am 46 and would LOVE to be in decent shape by my 47th birthday. I've got no wife to motivate me nor kids to chase after...so this is truly *my* battle.
