Selina's Drastic Dress Dilema!

Okay, so I thought i'd set up a diary to encourage me through these two months of what I hope will be dramatic weight loss.

For those of you unacquainted with my dilema - put simply - I have to fit into a size 14 dress by the 20th of December. I'm now about at a loose size 20. Yikes!

I remember being in a size 14 at about 80kg so that's my goal.

When I weighed in on the 16th of October I was 95kg (though I think this was big as I had been eating really badly for the last couple of days and might have been a bit clogged up if you get my drift!).

This morning, the 18th of October, my scales are telling my a much friendlier 92.6kg.

This is what I have eaten so far:

Day 1

Breakfast - 2 weetbix with soy milk

Snack - A handful of Sugar Snap Peas

Lunch - a 130g tin of tuna

Snack - A banana

Dinner - Sweet chili prawn and veg stirfry served on lettuce

Day 2

Breakfast - 1 weetbix with soy milk

Snack - Banana

Lunch - 2 weetbix with soy milk

Snack/2nd lunch - 130g Tuna

Dinner - Chickpea and spinach curry (made with only the tiniest amount of oil and no rice)

I'm making sure I let myself eat something whenever I get hungry, I want to fit into the dress, but I don't want to starve myself! I've had some headaches but I think that's probably withdrawal from the vast amounts of diet coke I have been drinking of late (evil stuff). I have been drinking LOADS of water and green tea to keep me full and to give me something to do (i'm like a smoker, still need that action of putting something to my mouth!).

I'm going to let my body adjust to the low cal diet before I give it too much in the gym. This week i'm going to focus on and doing some yoga and pilates before bed.

I have a pair of size 16 pants, i'm making fitting into those my first goal. I put them on this morning and the legs fit great, I could do up the buttons, but the zip wouldn't do up cause of my big bubbly lower belly (urk). I think they'll probably be a tight but wearable fit by the time I reach 88kg.

Feeling positive. And determined. Might get one of those ticker thingies.

Today:

Breakfast: Weetbix with soy milk

Snack: Apple

Lunch: 130g Salmon, tablespoon of pine nuts, handful of snow peas and cherry toms

Dinner: Lentil and Veg Soup

Feeling good, nice and full after my soup! My face is already looking a bit less bloated. Probably down to fluid loss rather than fat loss, but it's still nice! Feels like i'm off to a good start!

Feeling good after doing half an hour of pilates. Muscles worked and now i'm ready for bed! Tomorrow is a whole new day and i'm going to do just as well (if not better!) then! Yay!

Having some weetbix with soymilk and a BIG glass of green tea for breakky.

Just did a quick measure to see if a few days can make a difference and YAY! 2cm off both my hips and my waist! That makes me happy!

Heya Sel!!

Great work on starting a new weight-loss journal! I have been recording my daily journey for just over a week now. I find that it helps me be accountable for what exercise I do as well as what I eat!

Sounds like you are really committed to this and I comment you! It will be worth all the effort when you look at yourself in that dress!!!

Keep rocking girl!!!!

Thanks so much for the support 140days! It makes such a difference knowing there are people cheering me on! I hope we both do well together!

Have been very well behaved today. Where I was today it is normally my routine to go and buy two bread rolls, some chocolate and a coke. I was really hungry but I only bought a fruit smoothy (100% fruit no added sugar) to tide me over till I got home. I'm going to have some tiger prawns for lunch with sugar snap peas (about 250 cal in total).

I have noticed that the extreme hunger is already going away which is great! My body is adjusting. Before I was eating well over 3000 calories a day, with ludicrously huge portion sizes.

So....cracking on with the day. Will probably give a summary of food and exercise before I go to bed tonight.

Okay, so to sum up today...

Breakfast: weetbix with soy milk

Snack: Fruit smoothy (no added sugar)

Lunch:Tigerprawns with sugar snap peas and mushrooms in sweet chili sauce

Snack: 1 chicken satay skewer (small)

Dinner: 130g Salmon, corn cob, peas and beans

No exercise yet, will probably do some pilates or yoga before bed

After reading a few people's answers to these questions I thought it would be good to go through them myself....

How much weight do you want to lose?

Short term = 12.6kg (by the 20th of Dec)

Long term = 40kg (by July 2009)

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?

See above!

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?

Reducing calories and regularly working out at the gym.

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?

Kinda on my own. My boyfriends a pizza munching gymaphobe, but I think he's going to be really supportive in getting me to my first goal....he knows how important it is.

How realistic is your goal?

My short term goal....not particularly, I will admit that! But with a HUGE amount of dedication it can be done!

My long term goal...with commitment I think it is realistic.

When will you start?

I started 3 days ago on the 16th of October.

What is your current height and weight?

5'2 92.6kg

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?

55kg

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?

74kg

Why do you want to lose weight?

I am like a completely different person when I am skinny. Confident, sexy, i'm funnier even! I want to be able to go bush walking and make it up the highest hills with the best views! And my short term goal is to fit into the bloody size 14 bridesmaids dress my friend bought me for her wedding!

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?

Yep....my friends wedding.

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?

My eating disorder. But I am in therapy now and it has been much improved.

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?

After being raped several years ago I developed an eating disorder. I think my subconscious mind was thinking that if I make myself fat then no guys would ever want to do that to me again. A similar thing had happened to me in high school so I almost felt like I was asking for it by being thin.

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?

Taking more time to sit in the dark with just a few candles and listen to music. It's that sort of thing that makes me feel really at one with myself and encourages me to be more healthy.

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?

After my first period of binge eating at the end of high school something just clicked one day. It wasn't an intentional thing to lose weight, I just suddenly wasn't attracted to chocolate or greasy foods. All of a sudden I was up early going for walks and doing yoga. It was great!

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?

I gained the weight back as a way to protect myself from being hurt again...though really it has just hurt me more.

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?

Yes. I find it helps. Though it's always harder to write it all down on the "bad" days!

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?

I love cooking! Curries, Salads, Moussaka, Pasta, Fish, Veggies, Minestrone...you name it!

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?

Very rarely....it will normally be sushi, indian or portuguese food.

What are your three favorite foods?

Ferrero Rochers, Thai Green Curry, Sushi

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?

Always have healthy food in the house to stop me going to the shop to buy junk

See it as something that gets me through the day rather than the be and end all of the day

Learn to eat smaller portions

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?

I would instantly be more sociable. I would catch up with all of my old friends and feel confident doing so. I would get out of the house a lot more.

Do you eat when you are not hungry?

Yes.

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?

Yes...that's a part of my eating disorder. But it's getting better!

Do you hide your food or eat in secret?

Yes. Another part of the eating disorder. When I binge it is alone. I will go to the shop and stock up on ludicrous amounts of crappy food (what they must think of me!) then scoff it all in one go before anyone can get home. If people are home all day I will stash food in draws so I can keep picking at it all day long.

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?

Yes.

Do you eat as a reward?

My boyfriend always buys me "treats" for doing stuff for him...so a habit we've got to break!

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?

Yes.

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?

This week it's mostly yoga and pilates with a bit of belly dancing thrown in for fun. Next week i'll be starting back on my running training (working up to 5km) along with some other cardio at the gym and some weight training. That will be 3 or 4 times a week.

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?

Gym just round the corner from my house.

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?

Yoga

Pilates

Jogging

Do you have rewards for certain goals?

Today I saw a TV add for apple pie and wanted it SOOOO bad! I said to myself...if I have lost 6kg in one months time then i'll bake myself a delicious apple pie to have with a little bit of icecream. Yummo. Aside from that I think fitting into my older, smaller clothes will be reward enough!

YAY YAY YAY! Just woke up and did my morning weigh in (I know it's not good to weigh every day but I really can't help it!) and the scales are telling me a LOVELY 91.8!

It's making it all feel worth it, i'm so happy right now!

WOW...I just put the size 16 trousers on that I had tried on a few days ago.....I got them done up! Yes they're tight, but I can still breath and it wasn't a struggle to get the zip up...it was an impossibility just a couple of days ago! This is amazing!

I know it's not all fat loss, but it just goes to show how puffy, clogged up and bloated I was before. I really can't believe the difference and it's only been 5 days! I know it wont stay at this pace (if only!), but it's a great motivator to get me going!

Had weetbix with soy milk and a banana for breakky before heading to the gym. I did mostly cardio - running, bike and rowing - and the machines tell me I burned 300cal. Then I did some weight training on my arms and upper body. Couldn't get on ANY of the leg stuff cause people think it's cool to sit on them and chat and i'm too shy to tell them to piss off!

When I got home and was getting changed out of my gym gear my boyfriend was having a perve and said "wow! your tummy looks so much smaller already!"

He may have been saying it just to encourage me or it may be true...either way it made me feel good!

So...to sum up today:

Breakfast: weetbix with soy milk and a banana

Snack: Apple

Lunch: Tin of sardines in tomato

Snack: 50g dark chocolate

Dinner: Delicious chick pea curry (no oil, no rice)

I decided to allow myself to have some chocolate today. One of my problems is that I am so "all or nothing" when it comes to diet. The second I have so much as a crisp I think i've blown it and end up blowing out completely for weeks. That's a mindset I definitely have to break. Also, with my eating disorder they say that you should never entirely restrict the foods that you eat because it will trigger a binge. If you crave chocolate you should have some chocolate...but just a little! When adding up my calories for the day I can see that a bit of chocolate isn't a disaster...when I take into account the calories burned through exercise i've had a really good day!

I'm also really proud of myself because the chocolate was a 100g block. I ate half and put the other half in the cupboard and it has stayed there ever since. That is AMAZING! If I go to the gym tomorrow morning (which I should) then i'll let myself have the other half tomorrow as a snack.

Still feeling good and positive! YAY!

Awesome work, Seli!!! What a great feeling to start seeing success! You are really committed to this and I know you are going to keep with it!!

Thanks again for the support 140days...it really helps!

So far today:

Breakfast: weetbix with soy milk

Snack: banana

Lunch: 130g salmon, 6 cherry toms and a tablespoon of pine nuts

Snack: the other 50g of my chocky (yum!)

Dinner will prolly be fish with peas, carrots and corn. I went to they gym and did what the machines tell me was 350 calories worth of cardio. Weight was 91.8 again this morning. No loss, but no gain!

Still feeling very good!

Okay, so dinner was...

Grilled fish with Lemon

Carrot, sweet potato and potato mash

Corn on the cob

Peas

You are doing great with the food monitoring!

I use a free website to monitor mine. It took a couple of days to work out, but now it's just a few clicks each day. It also breaks down what you are eating and gives you reports on nutrients, carbs, protein, fats etc...

One of the lovely people on her got me on to it. Check it out if you have a moment...

Love to see you making good use of fish. That's the only meat I eat!

Keep up the great work Selina!!!!

I use fitday too...it's so handy! I love that it calculates how many calories I need to restrict to reach my goal, and it's great for working out exactly how many calories are in those veggies....not everything has a nutrition label that just tells you!

Fish is amazing. A lot less calories than chicken or beef or something and packed full of goodness! I think it's going to become quite a staple over the next few months!

Still sitting safely on 91.8. I've been doing some gym work, yoga and free weights so i'm surprised it hasn't actually gone up a little. A sign that even though the muscles are a buildin' the fat is still a losin'! Woohoo!
