Scale Readings on Diff Surfaces

I've noticed this issue & thought I'd post about it. Not a big deal, but still would be nice to know why it occurs.

I have a very basic scale. It's not digital, or electronic.

Similar set-up to that one.

What I notice is when I place it on my hardwood floor, it weighs me in at about 10lbs more than when I place it on my ceramic bathroom tile.

Why does it do this?

How do I know which weight is correct?

my guess is the scale kind of sinks into the hardwood a hair because it's softer and the ceramic is extremely solid and that is why. just a guess though...
