So proud of you Sarah! Isn't it funny that you don't always know that your efforts are really paying off, but it really is all about how you feel. Congrats on entering the new "category" when it comes to BMI. What a huge accomplishment! :hurray:

Thanks Cate, Feelinggooder and Alice29...it always feels so good to get that positive feedback...and you are all right...sometimes we don't really know if efforts are working...but occasionally...all the stars line up and all is right in the world!

Exercise today: 60 min on elliptical for 867 cal + 3 min on rowing machine + 2 rep's on free weights

Breakfast: 2 fried eggs, 5 slices bacon, fresh pinnaple cubes, fresh watermellon cubes and walnuts, cranberries and cheese.

Lunch: fried rice, egg fu yung without the gravy, sweet n sour pork, 1 banana

Dinner: hot green tea.

Today, was the first day back at work for one of my colleagues who has been in training for 6 months in the US. He took one look at me and about dropped his jaw...he said he was really amazed at how much I have lost. I did look good today...had on a snappy suit and my leather blazer and showed off...ha ha...strange how our mind can deliver positive reactions and other times negative...

Have a great day everyone and I wish you great success on your journey!

Sarah

Hi Sarah

Sorry I have been gone a lot.

Crazy life crap! You know

Anyway...warming up in China?

80 today in Texas

Hey Brawny,

Good to have you back...we all have crazy life crap...trust me! I recall about 3 weeks ago, my life (and my reaction to it) was crazy...I think it was hormones!

Today, I took a day off of exercise (I have a mid week day off tomorrow, so I'll do some double duty at the exercise center)

Breakfast: 3 slices bacon, 2 fried eggs, sauteed eggplant, boiled baby chinese cabbages, walnuts, cheese and cranberries and 1 banana

Lunch: shrimp fried rice, egg fu yung without the gravy

Dinner: hot green tea + 1 glass sparkling water

I have a 2 day offsite team building event with my direct reports on Thursday and Friday...so that should be interesting...I won't be able to post updates for a couple of days, but I'll be back on Saturday.

Have a great week ya'll!

Sarah

Way to go Sarah! I just knew you were going to do well this month. You've come so far and know what you're doing, I had a feeling 2 week trip or not, you'd have a good showing on the scale. I'm so proud of you! I'm also really glad you're no longer ranked as obese. That's such a wonderful thing to see. You'll be in the healthy weight category in no time. Keep up the great work!

Oh and nice job on the 60 situps on the incline board! That's awesome, no way I could do that! :)

Hey Munch, so good to see you back! Thanks for your kind words...I'm still pumped about changing categories...and thanks to "feelinggooder", I've started listening to fat2fitradio.com podcasts and it's really interesting..highly recommend. For the moment, I still have my goal weight and I'm quite a ways from getting there, but after listening to some of their stuff and getting ready to download a book called "wheat belly", I may rethink the number on the scale....I figure I'll stop losing at some point and stabilze naturally...and I can actually start to see my ribs now...which havn't been visible in a long while!

I'm off work today for Qing Ming day or "Tomb sweeping" day..from what I understand it's kind of like Memorial day in the US where people go to the grave sites of their ancestors and clean up the grave and pay homage.

Exercise today: 60 min on elliptical for 887 cal, 35 min on treadmill (run and walk) for 360 cal, 5 min on rowing machine for 40 cal, 60 situps on incline board and 2 sets of 10 reps on the weights.

Breakfast: 2 fried eggs, sauteed eggplant with pork, boiled kale, sauteed baby chinese cabbage, walnuts, dried cranberries and cheese topped off by 1 banana, some fresh pinnaple and watermellon cubes from the south of China...love this time of year when good fresh fruit is starting to come in season!

Today, I'm going to the tailor (again) and this time taking the summer blouses to get them cut down. I'll be going to the US for work and then 2 week vacation seeing family and I need some clothes that fit!! As my dear husband said (as he sighed), OK, let's go to the tailor...again! I remind him it's cheaper than buying new...not so sure he's convinced of that right now!

Have a great Wednesday ya'll!

Sarah

I agree with what you said about the number on the scale. For the longest time that's what I had been obsessed with. In such and such time I want to be here and that was my goal. But since getting my dress fitted and it being an 8, I've realized that I'm really comfortable right now. I feel great, look great, so why not just be great where I am? Why would 140lbs make me any better than me at 155 lbs? My bmi might still consider me overweight, but only by 9 or so lbs. I'm not going to let that get me down. We get so obsessed with the number that we don't stop and look at ourselves to see if we're comfortable for where were at. I might not stay comfortable here. In a few months I may start back up and try to lose more, but at this moment, I'm perfectly content right where I sit. :)

So exciting that you have a vacation to the U.S. planned. Getting to show off your new self is always a treat!!

I hope you enjoyed your day off!

Hope you had a good trip to the tailor and glad to hear you're enjoying the podcasts.

So much of this journey seems to take place in our heads so the podcasts have been a great help for me to keep from falling into the traps of going after rapid weight loss. Looks like your elliptical and treadmill sessions are ramping up even more than they had been previously so good on you for getting April off to a great start.

Have a great Easter weekend

Hey Munch & Feelinggooder, thanks for stopping by again!

Munch, you are doing awesome...I'm so happy you are where you want to be...and I look forward to your "maintain" updates!

Feelinggooder, thanks so much for the tips on fat2fitradio.com I've downloaded all the podcasts and listening to them as I exercise. It is giving me cause for reflection on my strategy to take off the next 45 pounds. On one hand, I don't want to change what has worked for me in the past to take off the 80 pounds so far...on the other hand, I believe that the BMR and the amount of calories consumed and exercise etc argument makes alot of sense...so I'm considering monitoring my real calorie count for a week or so to see how much I'm really eating (not sure how I'm going to do that yet) and seeing if I have the right "deficit" to keep taking the weight off. The 5 pound loss in the month of March really shocked me (in a good way) and gave me cause to see how, if I was eating more and exercising less, did I actually lose more weight than I did in Feb. when I was exercising my fool head off and not eating alot..and I only lost 3 pounds...havn't decided how I 'm going forward yet, but I'm starting to get open to the idea that a change in strategy might be necessary to get that next slab of weight off. I'm not in an extreme rush to get it off...I want to continue to do it safely, and continue doing exercise that much I know...the rest is kind of up in the air right now.

Today, I did my normal exercise for 60 minutes on the elliptical for 870 cal, then 15 minutes on the rowing machine for 80 cal, then I knocked out 50 setups on the incline board, then some free weights ( 2 sets of 10 reps each to lift 25kg on the straight arm lift, and the butterfly arm lift (those are my names, I have no idea of their real gym names) and then the lay on your stomach and lift your legs for 30kg from the knees down). I think in the future, I may do only 45 minutes on the elliptical, then spend more time on the weights to get my strength training up so that I can get more muscle mass to help me burn more calories.

Breakfast: 2 fried eggs, 3 slice bacon, walnuts, cheese, dried cranberries, fresh water mellon, fresh pineapple and 1 banana.

Today, I am resting up after a 2 day offsite with my direct reports...I went OK...but I sure was glad to get back home with my husband and apartment. Let's just say the breakfast at the chinese "spa" wasn't up to the standards I've grown accustomed to!..and leave it at that!

Have a great day everyone!

Sarah

Hi Sarah, I use My Fitness pal to track my calories & exercise & it has a huge list of foods etc in it's data base. I often guess or try to approximate what I eat, but it is a great guide & very easy to use. I have logged in 175 days in a row! There is also a great free app for it- I use both. You're doing well ("If it ain't broke, don't fix it.")& may not have the time either. Just thought I would pop in quickly to say hi but will head now & have a cup of herbal tea & a read. Cheers, xoxo Cate

Hey Sarah,

Thanks for the kind words in the diary today. Always consider it a bonus to see your updates here and in my journal as well.

Oldschool was the one to mention the fat2fit show to me back in January so glad to hear you're enjoying it. I also went back and listened to them from the second season and it was really neat to see the ups and downs as the show progressed.

Think 5 lbs in a month is a great number and should keep the weight coming off consistently as you're not doing anything extreme to your diet and exercise routine. You're absolutely destroying the elliptical. I had the wrong shoes with me for running Thursday so I used the elliptical for 10 minutes at a 13 resistance and there's no way I could have done a full hour on that beast.

Thanks Cate & Feelinggooder,

I always appreciate your comments! I've decided that I'm not going to do anything radically different (I'm sure that surprises you!), but I am going to track what I eat over the next month on the My Fitness Pal thingy. I started yesterday on the thing and to be honest, I was a little surprised by what I ate and the number of calories consumed (I had to guess some, but I figure it's pretty close). I did not go over the "goal" calorie count (just by my normal eating on the weekend where I typically have a small evening meal before 6, but I'm thinking I may not be eating enough during the week...that's why I want to do this test for a month to see). I'm not going to repost the foods here as I'm itemizing it on that thing, but I will put the total calories, my BMR and the Goal calorie count it says I should be at. I'm still getting the hang of this whole counting thing...Thanks Cate for giving me a tip on an easy tool to use...you are right, I can't handle alot of extra stuff to do right now with this job...so I'm looking for efficient and effective! The only drawback I see right now to this tool is that it doesn't give any credit for strength training..seems strange, but I'm not using it for that anyway, so it's OK)

BMR (according to my exercise (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/wk) = 2096

Day 1 Myfitness Pal: Goal 1379 cal, Food: +2087, Exercise =-841, Net 1246 (meaning I still had 124 calories still to consume, but didn't...not because I was counting, but because I didn't want anymore...which I think is a good sign that my system that has taken me this far is working for a reason...my body is adjusting and more importantly, my mind is adjusting).

Observation: When I look at the amount of calories that the 2 sites I'm using ( fat2fit and MyfitnessPal) given my exercise regime (which I don't plan on changing much!), they are consistent with about 2000 cal per day should be my intake when I want to lose about 1 pound/week.

As I learn more about myself and my food, I post additional stuff...I love listening to the podcasts on fat2fit while exercising...it keeps me interested and motivated, and gives me a good break from music or Chinese lessons!

I went to the tailor yesterday (are you seeing a habit here?!!) and ordered some summer dress clothes..for my job, but also specifically so that when I go back to the US for a family reunion, I can make some jaws drop!! It will be the first time most all of these people have seen me since I left the US 2 years ago, and definitely the first time for any of them to see me since I've lost 80+ pounds. I want to look good and feel good about myself...so yesterday, I ordered some summer knickers in lightweight wool, (I bought a summer weight jacket in Shanghai) and the blouses I'm having taken up should go well with them...then of course, I came back to the apartment and ordered some shoes online to have them sent to our mailbox in the US and I'll pick them up there. When I get the ensemble together (without shoes), I'll post a pic before I leave!..but in between then and now, I've got another business trip to France at the end of April...no rest for the weary!

Take care everyone and Have a great Easter!

Sarah

Hi Sarah- (just quickly) There is "Strength training (weight lifting, weight training)" as an a exercise in MFP. I use that when I do my light weights. xo Cate

Hey ya'll!

In my new experimental journey that started 3 days ago, I'll update my status:

Day 2: (Sunday)

BMR = 1548 (at 188)

Cal consumed: 1860

Goal cal to lose 2 pounds/week ( including exercise) = 2084 (knocked out 60 min on the elliptical + weights + 15 min on the rowing machine + 50 setups)

Remaining: 224

As long as I'm above the BMR, if I leave calories "on the table", that means, I just lose faster...I think/hope!

Day 3 (Monday)

BMR = 1548 (at 188)..I may have to weigh in this weekend...didn't really want to do that, but I want to see how much the BMR changes

Cal consumed: 1604

Goal cal to lose 2 pounds/week (including exercise) = 2012 (doing 45 min on the elliptical now to make room for weights...felt like I was playing hooky this morning!)

Remaining: 408 (and this includes eating 1 apple, 1 banana and 1 tangerine after I got home from work tonight (way past 6:00pm...), but without that, I would not have been above the BMR...which I think was causing my body to go into starvation mode and not let go of any calories back in Feb when I only lost 3 pounds after working my ass off all month!) I figure if I only eat fruit at this hour, it's probably OK for my body to digest it...and I'm hoping it will make me sleep better. I have to admit there were times when I was really hungry after a long hard day and then to hit the elliptical in the morning on an empty stomach was probably not the best thing for me!

So far the experiment is very interesting to me...and as long as I have the time and the easy app (thanks Cate!) it's not too stressful to count calories and is keeping me motivated.

Sarah

AHeya sweetie :)

I'm hanging my head in shame, 21 post i have to catch up on. I am so bloody rubbish. Here goes.............

I know this is really late but :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: Yay!!! on the 5lb loss!!!! That is awesome that you managed that with going away etc....You rock!!!

And a massive :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: Yay!! for not being obese anymore!!!!! :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:

That for me was the best feeling of all!!!!!!! So so pleased for you :)

I use MyFitnessPal too. That and my diary is the reason i have managed to get to where i am now :) It really is easy to use isn't it, i am constantly amazed at the food that is in it. I dont put my exercise in it though.

Well, i am up to date now. I can't wait to see some photo's hun and also can't wait to hear how your trip back home goes.

Well done again on not being 'obese' any more :)

Greeting all, and thanks Kate for stopping by...and your super words of encouragement! Don't worry about your 21 posts etc...we're here for each other baby, and you are going through some shit right now!

Today, day 4 (Tuesday) on the new experiment:

BMR (full rest at 188) 1548

Cal consumed: 1588

Exercise: 646 I was late getting down to the center today and didn't get any weights in and did 45 min on the elliptical...I guess I'm supposed to have a muscle recover for strength training anyway!

Remaining calories per the "goal": 258, and that includes an apple and some walnuts eaten this evening after 6:00pm...

Really stressed at work...I still havn't caught up from the email onslaught that happens when I go away for any period of time..I'm "under water" by over 200 emails..I hate that feeling and even though I've stayed past 7:00pm each night so far this week, I'm just barely keeping up with new emails today...so I'm mentally swamped and don't have a ton of energy right now either...on the bright side, I did get confirmation on my vacation time for a winter cruise...so I'm going to book that this week to give myself something to look forward to and an additional goal date to lose the rest of the weight!

That's about all for now,

Sarah

AHeya Sarah :)

:( Sorry work is really stressful. It's bad enough going back after being away but having to deal with all the back log really sucks - sending you lots of hugs :grouphug:

How exciting that you get to book your cruise this week....Super excited for you. Do you know where you are going to go? (you might have said and i'm just dim lol)

Hope life eases up for you my lovely :)

Hope you catch up soon Sarah, with all of your work emails. Stress is awful & affects everything we do. It's good that taking care of yourself has climbed right up the priority list though. It must feel exciting to be booking a cruise soon. What an incentive to get closer to goal! xo Cate
