Sadakie's Diary

Hey Sadie, you are making progress, good for you!

I agree with LaMa on the veggies, adding a few might make you feel fuller with fewer calories.

Any chance you could eat some of that toast dry? Lots of calories in the margarine and spreads. I know they taste good, but just sayin...

Hi LaMa & Rob :waving:

Yeah, I agree on the veggies, too. As for yesterday I wasn't really feeling like cooking and I only have frozen veggies at home right now. Apart from 2 tomatoes and some onions ^^
Have to get more next week with next month's budget. Although I don't really like grocery shopping atm. It just feels weird and it's like you either have someone starring at you because you ask if this person could move so you could get something or people who just ignore any form of privacy and distancing and just push past you. :leaving:

I think I could, yes. I'm just afraid I eat more toast then :svengo:

I successfully managed to put too much salt on both cooked meals today. So... that's nice.

For breakfast I wanted to make an omelette but in the end it was a tofu scramble with an onion and two tomatoes.
Aaand two slices of toast with margarine. :leaving:
~520cal

For... lunch/dinner I made some curry stuff.
I used a little sesame oil, edamame, a vegetables mix for curry and currypaste and mixed it with some kind of udon noodles. Also put a little thai mango sauce on top.
~960cal

Later I had 2 slices of toast with hazelnut chocolate spread because I really wanted something sweet after all the salt and an apple.
~310cal

Total: ~1790

So it's my 3rd day without soda but 'just' ~5000 steps today. Was getting annoyed early today by a so-called friend of mine and I wasn't really in the mood for any activity anymore after. :cuss:

... 1 slice of toast with margarine ...

unless you have some medical reason for not using butter, regardless of almost everything you have probably heard about fat or butter, you should consider butter. bagels are my kryptonite. i can think of 100 different ways to use them, but if i merely toast one, it will be with butter or some vegged-up cream cheese. i cannot think of anything worse for ones health/ diet than margarine.

Nah, my reason for not using butter is just me being vegan :leaving:
But I'm not having it this frequently normally. Just trying to use it up because I'm a little sceptical about baking with it :svengo:

Thanks for the concerns, though!

And yes, bagels are very versatile :blush5: How do you manage to resist your kryptonite?

I don't know how I would cope without butter, cheese & eggs. I admire you for being vegan, assuming it's for humane reasons.
Would olive oil be an option on toast?
I like tahini although it's never cheap. You have me thinking now. I must look up home-made spread recipes :)

It started out as a dietary choice because I'm slighly lactose intolerant. But I have been vegetarian for about 10 years prior. Dived more into veganism the last two years and my only "struggle" on the dietary side were sweets really. But I finally decided to get away from the sweets aswell around new year. Hoping to get my hands on a vegan pair of Dr. Martens within the next months :hurray:

I never thought about putting oil on my toast thb. Although it's not really different from the melted oil mixture margarine is ^^'

Might have tahini in my pantry. Do you eat toast with just tahini then? (Asks the one putting just margarine on hers :willy_nilly:)
But my sweet-tooth loves toast with almond butter and banana on top.

If you stumble across a nice recipe tell me please :blush5:

Toast with almond butter & banana sounds pretty good to me. Olive oil is a much better alternative to margarine & so-called olive oil spreads have hardly any olive oil in them & lots of crap usually. We used to eat them thinking they were a healthier alternative until I checked them out properly. I make a nut spread occasionally & use mixed nuts & olive oil, but it's certainly not inexpensive. My husband loves it. I use the cheapest home-brand mixed nuts, add olive oil & some salt if the nuts are unsalted, or mix up unsalted & salted nuts. Sometimes I add a little pepper. It's time I made him another. I'll have a look today at home-made butter alternatives, just for fun & I might have a crack at making one. I'll let you know. :)

The hydrogenated oils in margarine are definitely worse for you than olive oil. Not that I've been very healthy lately... Still: toasted bread with a thin smear of olive oil, garlich, and salt? Yum!

I agree, olive oil is better than margarine, both for you and its taste. Bananas are good.

I am enjoying watching your progress, you are working your way to the right diet for yourself. That is great.

Right. If you think about it making your own spreads isn't that difficult at all; just not that convenient  But I might give it a try! And nut butters aren't that inexpensive either, so...:leaving:

Really really never tried putting oil on my toast but I might think about it in the future :D

Today I decided my goal will be 5000 steps a day instead of 8000 so I reached my goal for 3 days in a row now :biggrinjester: Same with the soda.

For breakfast:
2 peaches
a slice of watermelon
a banana
~350cal

A short while after:
4 slices of toast; 1 with margarine, 1 with hazelnut chocolate spread, 2 plain ones
~360cal

for dinner:
wholegrain pasta with soy mince sauce, carrots and onions
~1050cal (that was a big one... I ended up with too much pasta and I prepared too much soy mince ^^')

Total: ~1760
Don't have much else to say... headache's still there, neighbors are still jumping...:cuss:

Do you have a Magimix or similar? Yesterday I made a nut & seed butter. I added lots of seeds, because they are in my pantry- sunflower, pumpkin. Hemp & sesame & some soy flakes, olive oil & a little peanut oil, plus salt. I think that was it. It's yummy.
Hope you feel better on Sunday xo

Hey Sadie, it looks to me like your calories are working their way down, and the quality of you food is getting better. Good for you!

Hope the headache is soon gone.

I think if I soak the nuts beforehand it should work with my blender :)
And your pantry seems well equipped!

And thank you guys. I don't think it would be this way for the last couple days if not for this forum.
I tracked my food over the last months but it just didn't matter. Losing weight by yourself is really different from having people doing the same thing even if it's "just" online. It's different when you know someone is watching this stuff.
Sorry.. this sounds a little cheesy :leaving:

Anyway. I tried following a dance workout on YT today. It was 15min but my arms made me surrender after 10. I mean... it wasn't that intense because I know how some movements sound to the neighbors (Yes. I'm looking at you neighbors who will never read this.) but I never had muscles in my arms I think. I even bought dumbbells last year but... I haven't really used them.
At the moment I don't know if I want to try to incorporate home workouts or running in my day. I'm kind of getting sick of being in my room all day long but I'm getting way to self-conscious when I go jogging. Like... I hold my breath when passing people and I feel like my steps are so incredible loud. But I don't really like walking outside if there are too many people around either, so... yeah.

___
~6700 steps today so I reached my goal of 5000 steps for the 4th day! And no soda, too!

Breakfast:
2 slices of toast with hazelnut chocolate spread and banana
2 peaches
~300cal

Lunch:
2 slices of toast
500ml vanilla soy milk with a little hemp protein powder
~450cal

Snack:
One banana
~90cal

Dinner:
Potatoes with breaded soy steaks and sauce.
~1000cal

Total: ~1840

Today I wasn't over seasoning my dinner, no, I under seasoned it so most of the flavor came from the sauce. But it was my first attempt with these steaks so... it's fine. :svengo:
These last days are really not showing the struggle I had with getting more protein in my diet over the last months.

Leaving the house early would mean you automatically look more active and there'd be fewer people in the streets :)

Maybe that's an advantage to writing everything down for others to read.

...How do you manage to resist your kryptonite?
almost two years ago, i abruptly stopped drinking milk, but mostly for health reasons... the same reason i switched back to butter from margarine, but that was many years earlier.... it's also not even close to butter as a cooking substitute. i saw a few vegan butter recipes which at least seem to stay away from the really bad vegetable oils.

re: resisting bagels... i don't. it's the one thing in the house i cannot throttle my desire for. i merely try to limit my trips to the bagel store. luckily i don't have to pass by very often and even then, they typically sell out by noon, so it's a morning trip there or nothing. it's really the only bread i eat these days, though.
