Hello everyone hope all is well.
I have a test coming up soon where I have to run a 1 1/2 miles in 14min and 31 sec. My time now is 17min 24sec.
What is the bet way to bring my time down by November.
I am not a runner at all being only 5'6" and around 245lbs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ways to Improve Speed

Hi,

Are you training for military? This sounds like our PRT (Physical Readiness Test) in the Navy. Other tips besides running daily:

1. Fartleks. If you're using a track, run the straights at a faster sprint, curves at a slow pace. Or set up a set distance to run fast followed by a slow paced distance.
2. One day out of the week, run a long, slow distance run (2 to 3miles), don't worry about pace. Your body's build up of endurance will help you with the shorter run and you'll break the psychological barrier of the 1 1/2mile wall!
3. Start your 1 1/2 mile run at a faster pace for only the first 200 to 300 yards (meters) then resume your regular pace. After a few weeks, you'll find yourself shaving seconds off your run and you won't feel a difference in your exhaustion level after the run.
4. Always strive to catchup to that next person in front of you! Another mental factor that helps you take to focus off yourself. Just look to the next person and say to yourself, "I can catch up to them."

Good Luck,

Cindy

Sounds like the military fit run. I think Cindy really covered it pretty well. You just have to keep at it and keep going. It gets easier with time. If your fit test is in November, I hope you're out there right now training for it.
