running/walking...when is it better?

hey gang!! when is the best time to excercise? I always heard the morning time is best but it was always information given to me by someone not something that I read in a helath magazine

also, is it better to eat and then work out or workout and then eat?
 
when is the best time? whenever you can do it! (short answer)

Long answer : Morning time is excellent for cardio because your FORCING your body to tap into fat stores. You can also get the similar effect by doing cardio 3 hours after you eat.

Weight training on the other hand, I try to eat carbs before I lift for energy during lifting, with protein after.
 
right now all i do is walk after work..around 7pm. do you think i should be eating dinner and then walking or vice versa?

I do plan on starting to do sit ups in the morning as of tomorrow so what your saying I should do is work out and then eat my breakfast meal?
 
I think what Allen is saying is (and correct me if I'm wrong) do your cardio (walking) right after work and then eat.

As for the sit ups, if I were to do them in the morning, I would do them first and then eat. If you're doing any other weight lifting throughout the day though, eat first to give yourself the energy for it.

Yep you guys are right, cardio on an empty stomach is -allegedly- more effective. You do need a little bit of food energy for weight lifting though.
 
like mentioned, the best time to workout is the time you commit to day in and day out on a consistent basis.

i tried the exercising on an empty stomach deal and didnt care for it. IMO, its more about calories burned vs consumed over the course of the day over what you burn in and around a workout. :)
 
So Do i run a mile on my gazelle then eat my breakfast or do i eat my breakfast and then run? My breakfast is usually a bowl of Special K cereal. Then after i eat that i do some situps and stuff. This is what im gonna start doing Running a mile in the morning and then when i come home from school run another one. Plus with all the sit ups should be enough to fill my excercising time right?
 
manderus try both for a time and see how you do. thats what i did and i learned that i didnt care to do it on an empty stomach. ;)
 
I'm a morning guy; if I jog / walk it's going to be in the morning, and I always hit the gym near noon times. Some of it has to do with a my lack of motivation when the day comes to an end, and the part has to do with any homework I get. As far as which time is best, hell whatever works for you. Though odds are you'll have more energy in the morning ;-).
