Running, its turns into an addiction.

I thought this was so cool,

When I first started running, I hated it. Dreaded it rather. And now, I run and run and next thing you know, ive run 5-6 half mile laps. \

Just so that I dont over do it, I have decided to run every other day. And go to the gym inbetween. But, its amazing how I cant wait for the day to go running to come. :)

Just thought i'd share that.

Mee too, I would love to run but i'll probabaly trip or get overtaken by an old lady :|
Haha - thats the funniest thing I've heard today.

Well, if your really that uncoordinated there are treadmills that have body harnesses that support you from above. Thus preventing you from falling as the harness is suspended from above. :)

;)

How long did it take you to start enjoying running?

Sorry it took me so long to reply guys.

It took me a month of running ever other day to do start liking it and my body just started asking me to run. if I dont, I feel kind of bad.

But, these last three days i havnt been able to run because its been 16 degrees here. Im going nuts. :p

Are you a believer that no matter how much you hate running if you just keep at it you'll start to enjoy it? I've always been slow and my lungs always feel like they are going to explode. I'm not really in bad shape, i rock climb and can play tennis for hours but long distance running? Someone shoot me!

I've never been fan of running. I do a good bit of it when I cut down.... and still, I can never say I truly enjoy it. I feel good afterwords, but the physical act of it is not enjoyable to me.

Different strokes for different folks.

Sprinting, OTOH, I love.

I think I have much more fast twitch muscle fibers than I do slow twitch. I'm of the firm belief that genetics will dictate primarily what you are not only good at, but also what you enjoy. Certainly there will be people who don't fit that discription.... but ya know.

Amen. I have not a clue what it is but every few months I start running again and I swear....I must do it every day or every other day....and I keep that up for 2-3 months then stop

And....it isn't that I am burning myself out....I seem to like it more, more, and more as I go on....it is just that I always seem to find something that keeps me from running for 1-2 weeks after awhile and I just fall completely OUT of running for months....

I always need that BOOST to make me start running again

Yeah I know how that is. See, ive been running everyday, and my legs are actually kind of sore. And I took a break today and decided not to run, just because I didnt want to over work my legs.

But, I mean, im looking forward to running tomorrow and then im not. I mean, i could spend that one hour sleeping, relaxing, or heck maybe even eating. But once im done running, I know I feel better which makes me just look forward to the next day.

I just got back from a run in the rain, I love it. A good run gives a great feeling of accomplishment. Yay to runners!

For all new runners or those that are having trouble with it, I am about to give you what I believe is the best advice ever.

Get an armband to wear an MP3 player!! It will change your entire running experience. You will be able to run much longer, because your mind is preoccupied with the music. I bought an armband for my Zune a month ago; best $5 I have ever spent on Ebay, hands down. Try not to sing while you run though, or people will stare....

I try to run with music. I just cant do it. I find that I last longer and I run more when I run with other people. Its more fun to me that way. When I run with other people, I guess that its like something that you dont want to let them see you weak, to where you just keep pushing yourself. And at the same time, you talk to them while you run and get your minds off of the run itself.

There are many fun things to do while running. You just have to give it a chance.

Oh I agree with you 100%. I was just suggesting what to do when and if your running partners constantly quit on you.... (lost 3 so far, they weren't dedicated at all). Still searching for a new running partner.

And the good thing about running with a friend, like you said before, is that you are both pushing yourselves to the limit because you are attempting to keep up with the other person. It's great.

Danger in jogging

Its jogging..but dont take it as addiction..our body needs 20% of fat to withstand temperature and diseases.otherwise we will get ill..so by jogging this 20% can loose and we get easily effected by diseases...

Oh man. I've stopped running for a while because that's what my trainer wants me to do right now. I hope, hope, hope she incorporates running back into my fitness regimen when she changes things up in the next couple of weeks. I abosulely love outdoor running and have even discovered my undying devotion to hills, especially really long hills with medium inclines. And I realized recently that I really don't like running on completely flat ground, but instead prefer the challenge and variation found in cross-country.

I have several running partners, but they are merely weekend warriors. I can't get anyone to get up and go running with me at 4:45am M-F, so I do most weekday running indoors on the treadmill. Boring. Too bad Baltimore is so unsafe; if I lived in a safer place I'd do my morning runs outside.

I don't think so skippy - where are you getting your information?

I run 4x a week. Now that I'm not huffing and puffing so much I love it.
anyone looking to start should try the couch to 5k program. it's awesome

Hi from Canada! I have generally just been using my treadmill for walking, set on a very steep incline. I have it in front of my tv. At first when I tried to just jog through one commercial, I could barely do it. Now I am RUNNING through the entire commercial break, which I think is about 3 minutes or so. I am feeling WAY more energized now when I am done my workout. I absolutely DRIP with sweat, but I can hardly wait for my workout now every day! It's weird - like I am getting addicted to running? Is such a thing possible? I don't know if I should just keep running in the commercials or try and boost the time I spend running and do it all at once? Heck, I don't even know how long I would last! I have foot & knee concerns, so I really am trying to use some self control (OMG! Who would have ever thought I would use the phrase 'self control' when talking about exercise rather than food?:smilielol5:)

Cheers

Congrats on the running through commercials part. I think its pretty cool that you are able to go from walking, to jogging, to running. If you have knee problems or leg problems, or in your case; concerns, then I wouldn't overwork myself. Keep doing what you're doing. And if it starts to hurt too bad, take a break. Sometimes if I run too much, my legs and my side hurt REAL bad. But then, I notice, that after taking a day's break or so, I am able to run alot better and a lot more the next time I run.

Dont feel pinned down to having to run everyday or else you are going to gain 123213 pounds.

:)

Remember, (this includes: food, studying, running, swimming, working; basically everything) too much of anything is bad for you.

LOL omg someone who knows where Im coming from, running at times..no matter how much you enjoy it can sometimes be dissatisfying (for those days where you just don't wanna do anything ya know?)
BUT
Most of the time I love it :D the fresh air, listening to my music..and zoning out into my own world, also great stress reliever, (though I don't really have any MAJOR stress, maybe work XD)
