Running (Cardio) and sweat

I was just wondering what all of your thoughts were on wearing a windbreaker or some other form of jacket when running or biking (Or any cardio really) in order to sweat more? I realize there is a need to hydrate yourself very well when doing it and keep yourself from overheating. I ask because I've noticed that my body doesn't really produce much sweat when I'm doing cardio, I have to be extremely hot or do the cardio for at least 30min. before I really start having any show up. So I've been considering wearing a light jacket when I do my cardio.

why would you want to sweat more?

Hey, im the same as u (except when i run in hot weather) but i like it when i dont sweat as much coz then i dont have to keep on whiping it off frm my head, so i dont c why u should bother, its just gonna make u more dehydrated and hotter which will make u wanna stop.

Some people have the philosophy that the more you sweat, the more pounds you shed.
while others simply just say that its your bodys way of keeping you cool it will all come back the second you take a chug of water.

i dunno, im no doctor... but i always go in the sauna after a workout and tell myself it will help me sweat off a few more pounds, but in reality its just dehydrating me.... but it feels nice just to see my body working hard.

yes but only by getting rid of ur water in ur body, thus making u dehydrated. So once you have a glass or two of water next u'll put the water weight back on.

but why do you want to lose water?? You do that before a weigh in or something? sweating isnt a measure of fitness and its not really a way to get fit either

Usually the people who have the philosophy that the more water you lose, the more weight you lose are boxers, wrestlers (trying to make weight) or they got that philosophy from them. Yes sweating can make you lose water weight, but the first chance the body gets to redeposit that water weight, it will. It has no lasting effect.

It doesn't matter if you sweat a little or sweat buckets when you're working out. You burn the same amount of calories.

what are the real benefits of Sauna and of that other thing that I dont know what to name in english..turkish bath ?????

Yes, as a wrestler in high school, the sauna was just an extra way of cutting weight for the day before a meet. It's also very good for clearing the pores and making your skin healthier. The reason I asked about sweating more, was because like someone mentioned, there are a lot of philosophies out there that the more you sweat, the more you're losing. I wasn't quite sure if that was the case or if in fact, it was merely a matter of your body just dehydrating itself faster, so I wanted to find out from some people on here who have shown that they indeed know what they're talking about. Thanks for all the help guys. :)

(Oh and btw, I actually prefer to sweat more as it's just a peace of mind for myself. When I don't produce much sweat, I feel as though I'm not getting as good of a workout even though I know I am, so I just prefer to sweat more, which is why I hate when they have the fans turned on full blast in the gym when I'm doing my cardio. I tend to only sweat profusely when it's extremely hot and humid outside)

Like i said, when you work out you want to think you are working hard, and sweat is solid proof of that.

dehydrating yourself is in no-way-shape-or-form healthy, but i also like to see that sweat trickle down my forehead when i do cardio.

But, to wear a jacket just make yourself hot(ter) is dumb. Your body would end up using more energy just to keep yourself cool and you would have to work twice as hard to keep up a decent pace.

If your gym has it set at ~75 degrees with a light breeze coming from the fans, unless i am wrong, somebody correct me... but, that should be ideal workout conditions for almost everyone.

Supposedly, if you sweat in a sauna you will sweat out toxins and then you can replace that by drinking good clean water.

Not sure whether this has any scientific backing but its probably good for your skin anyway.

Sweating period cleans the pores, gets rid of toxins and just makes you feel better. If you sweat and keep it in, that may be good for survival, but it keeps the grease, oils and dirt on the body.

^cool.. I shall visit the sauna room one day, but it looks so boring lol
Not boring at all. Once you get in there, your breathing and all starts getting harder and you don't notice the time go by.

the sauna has many health benefits. it cleanses metals and other toxins from your body, makes your skin look wonderful, and it also increases your heart rate. it's the dry heat that produces the wonderful effects - steam rooms are counterproductive. be sure to shower after you get out of the sauna or the metals can seep back into your skin. ideally you should go to an infrared sauna because it can penetrate your skin deeper. my gym offers a huge sauna free of charge and i like to lay in there with the light off and doze lightly for half an hour a couple days a week. for you college-kids and partiers, going to the sauna is a great cure for a hangover as well - proof of how well these work!
