I am running. Big deal, right?
Well for me it is. First I started jumping on the treadmill for a few minutes at a time, and today I can honestly say I am up to a "slow jog." ha
So please help me out-this is my first treadmill to own, I'm ashamed to say-
what length of time is good to work towards to see a weight loss of a couple pounds per week? I'm doing around 15 on a tread, and 10 or so on a bike right now, maybe four times a week.

Stats 178 lbs, around 5'2
Diet-not killing myself here, just no sodas, sweets or frieds for now. The occasional slip-up or Jack n Coke still happens.

I'm a work in progress:)
thanks so much.

Based on my previous weight loss, it seems that 45 minutes or more exercise every day is the magic number. You can lose weight faster and safer if you warm up first. This is the correct way to exercise, as you have to raise your heart rate to a point before your body efficiently burns the calories.

You can try something like this: Go slow/medium on either machine for 5-7 minutes. Then go medium/fast for 10-12 minutes. Get off the machine, stretch a little bit, go on the other, do 10-12 serious exercise time... Then finish it off with 5-7 minutes warm off period by winding down.

You might want to avoid the monotony and mix it up. It's a good way to ensure that your body is not "used to it", and stops losing weight. As soon as your body seems to plateau, step it up a little.

Good luck,
George

That's an accomplishment! Keep it up, you've done the hard part which is starting. I'm learning so much here. It's like the re education of me! We are going to be so healthy and so hot this summer....sizzlin' baby!

Hey there! How is your running coming along?

I started the C25K and I should be done with the 9 weeks by now but I can't seem to get my legs to go over 20 minutes. lol. I will overcome!

Good work and keep it goin'!! :D

Here's What Happened.

Well, let me tell you guys what happened.
First, thank you! for the great words of encouragement. Matt, I am proud of you-I saw that you have lost a tremendous amount! wowee.
Sincerest, and the rest of you guys, just keep on track-summer's right around the bend, baby.
As for me-I was doing so well. Lost five lbs, feeling good, and so on.
Then I logged on to the history on my internet one day and discovered my boyfriend has signed up to "adultfriendfinder.com", and all these other websites full of trashy chicks, cruising the internet looking at women's bodies and profiles.
Needless to say, it hasn't been the best week.
I fell off the wagon for a few days now. I really just need to continue, and I will soon. I just need a minute to regroup. It's almost like it was for nothing, but I know it's not true-I'm doing this for me anyway.
He is still in the house and it's super hard because I feel pretty upset right now, knowing there is no support here.
Enough about me-keep running, walking, working-I am proud of all of you.
later

Brenda,

We're here for you. We're your support. I'm really sorry to hear that you're experiencing this.

I honestly don't know what to say. I personally don't do that stuff, but I have a lot of guy friends that do. It's unbelievable. Some of them are perfectly happily married, and their wives knows about it and allows it. Some of them do it in secret and are cheats.

But I can tell you one thing that I have learned from listening to those guys talk, it is not the woman that's the problem. It's the lack of self control on their part. It's their guys' penises leading them around like Don Juan DeMarco's nose. :conehead:

Having said that, I hope that it comes to comfort to know that it's very highly likely- I would stake my reputation on it- that it's your boyfriend that's the problem. Not you. I am confident that there is absolutely nothing wrong with you, and that you have a lot going on for you.

I invite you to look at other people's progress diaries and see what you can do for yourself... Imagine the wonders you can do, if you can find the focus for yourself. Remind yourself that you're a good person, and that you're very worthy.

After all, Brenda's Ready, right? There's nothing wrong with falling off the bicycle, as long as you get right back on. :) We're here for you...

Best of luck,
George

aww... sorry your week hasnt been amazing... but dont let a few slipups stop you. omgosh i would love to have a treadmill... atm i am just sticking to leslie sansone's walk slim 4 miles... hopefully that will get the job done... its been making me sweat (eww) but i like it =D

:chillpill:
I am chill today. Got up and had my protein and veggies. Breathed a little air outside. I am zen. Yes I know it is his penis and not me-this is not the first time this has happened with the glorious internet goddesses.:puke:
You just don't know how much I appreciate logging on here and knowing there are literally thousands of people managing their weight issues, just like me. Life is good, and I feel blessed regardless.
I have an interview today at a place to help adults learn to read and so that is where my focus lies today.
Love and peace and keep on a 'workin at it!
Geoaidan,how's your weight loss coming?
And for you who wants the treadmill-if you ever have a hard time getting outside, they are a godsend. But I have heard great things about Leslie Sansone's videos too-keep at it!

Brenda

i think the reason behind me preferring to workout inside is because... i have such weak ankles it hurts to run/jog/walk for extended periods of time on uneven surfaces. (also i dont want the neighboring farms to think one of their cows is loose o: xD {i was totally jking im not THAT big! well maybe as big as one of the calfs :3})

its nice to know your feeling soo much better today^^

Smile, you sound happier today. I know how that feels. It's liberating, isn't it? :)

Good luck on getting that job. I'm in the market for a new job myself. My sedentary job isn't working out for me. It's neat, to be able to teach adults how to read, I imagine that if you do get the job, you would be making a lot of people's wishes come true. Reading & writing definitely opens doors for people.

My weight loss is going along great, thank you for asking. I have lost 20 pounds since January 1st. Today is my 20th pound loss. It's dropping off like melted butter.

I can give you some tips if you're interested. How's your weight loss going so far? :)

Cheers,
George

I Can Button My Pants. A Historical Day.

Hello! I missed everyone!
I got the job tutoring but it is a volunteer position. But I don't care, I am excited. George, you are the weight loss king to me right now. My problem right now is eating the same stuff over and over because I know what works and am scared to try anything else. Yogurt with Kashi cereal in it. Lunch is soup or a salad with protein in it of some sort. Dinner is a small portion of whatever my family's having, but baked, not fried. But I'm going to turn into a can of yogurt at this rate if I keep eating it so much.

As for the comment from the sweetie about the "cows getting loose," look at your face! I bet you're 1/3 my size of 170 right now. You look great! Just wait till your ass is as big as a fridge like mine and then we'll talk cows:blush5:

bodymatters, I will send you a private message soon. I'm attending college four days a week, observing in public schools 20 hours, working 16 hours and then volunteering 3. So I may drop out a day or two, but I'll always be back.

Brenda,

Congratulations on your new position. :) I know what you mean by eating the same thing over and over again. That's actually one of the reasons why a lot of people quit their diet. It gets old pretty quickly.

What I did was, use combinations of the same food. For example:

Breakfast 1: Cottage cheese with raisins & almonds.
Breakfast 2: Cottage cheese with sunflowers & some light shredded cheese.
Breakfast 3: Plain cottage cheese
Breakfast 4: Cottage cheese with pineapples or other fruits. (Small amount)

And then you can create other foods with yogurt in the same way. Alternate between them.

For chicken-
There are several recipes in my weight loss diary. (You can find the link in my profile)
But here are examples:

Baked Chicken with Budweiser light & Mrs. Dash- aka "Beer Battered chicken"
Baked Chicken in pasta sauce
Baked Chicken with a peppercorn covering, with a special made sauce
Baked Chicken with BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and water
Baked Chicken with lemons & lemon juice & black pepper

For snacking, I use this small "snacking cup". I snack on whatever I want, as long as it's under the level of that cup and as long as it doesn't have a lot of calories in it.

These are my snacks that I eat: (Just one item at a time)

-(5) Monterrey Jack/Colby Cheese cubes with a very small glass of V8. (1/4 cup)
-(5) Grape tomatoes and (5) cheese cubes
-(7) almonds & a 3 tbsp raisins mixed.

As for dinner, nothing wrong with what your family is having- maybe you can start out with one cup of yogurt and 1 cup of whatever your family is having.

I would strongly recommend a digital scale. After dinner, check out your weight. Is it close to your target weight? If so, you can relax a little bit. If you're over (hopefully only by a few ounces) then, you can always go for a bike ride or a walk to "walk it off".

There are more tips, but I'll start you off with these. Hope some of them will help. :)

George

Woh Brenda, how cool that you had an historic day!! I hope you enjoy the new work too.

I missed it because I posted in your other newcomers thread before and not this one. :) Do you think you might start a thread in the diary section soon?

:angelsad2:
Horribly.
Since I started school, there is less than thirty minutes of spare time to my day, during which time I stuff whatever is there into my mouth.
My plan was to use an ice chest, except that I do not have time to fill it in the mornings. My children come first in the way of planning their day and all the things they need. Honestly, I am coming last in every area at this point. It is so disappointing.
Thank you so much for checking in on me though.
How about you? Are you still losing? I hope so, you are such a clever person in the way you plan your meals and seemed so dedicated.
Time seems to be my issue-I thought about bars of some sort, but ya know, that aftertaste some of them have turns me off-and I can't get full on 'em, either!
Well, I won't give up hope on myself just yet-I'll keep trying to figure something out.
Later!
Brenda

Brenda,

I'm really sorry to hear that your weight loss hasn't been doing well lately. :(

there is less than thirty minutes of spare time to my day, during which time I stuff whatever is there into my mouth.

I know how that goes. It's almost as if we make up for the lack of "alone" down time. That has to be really tough. I have a lot of "alone" time, because my schedule is different from my wife's. She has a lot of down time as well, we take turns with the kids, and we tend to have 2 hours together out of every day. I hope that your significant other, if you've got one- can help take some of the burden off of you.

As for ideas, maybe you could try buying a cheap indoor exercise bike and put it in front of the TV... Grab yourself a large bottle of ice water and an apple and cycle on the bike in front of the tv and enjoy the water and the apple? Maybe that would be a good way to detract your attention, as well as give yourself the opportunity to enjoy TV, & enjoy a good fruit?

There are recumbent style exercise bikes, in which the seats are really extremely comfortable. I am going to buy one myself for $20 dollars tomorrow, off Craigslist. Craigslist is a fantastic place to buy a cheap piece of exercise equipment, and sometimes you can get a $500 dollar piece of equipment for just $10 or $20, because the owner left it to collect dust and wants it gone asap.

Another idea, what about taking the kids for a daily bicycle ride? I wish my mom could have done that when I was a kid- I rode my bike all over the place, would have been neat if my mom joined me.

As for snack ideas, you can enjoy a granola bar- they're really good, and they're low on calories if you can find the right one. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "diet" bar. It just has to be a low calorie treat (like 150 or less calories) that will satisfy you and help you resist temptations.

Another idea, is to buy a box of "bad snacks" like chocolate chips or oreos.. And say to yourself "I will have an oreo a day. But if I am really good today, I get to have 2 oreos". Reward yourself?

I hope these suggestions help...

How about you? Are you still losing? I hope so, you are such a clever person in the way you plan your meals and seemed so dedicated.

I'm doing pretty great. I have lost 31 pounds so far, since Jan 1st. I had a slow week the past few days, but I'm right back on the saddle as of today. :) Thanks for the compliment..

Here's another trick that would help you big time for someone that's busy.. Try buying "Smart Ones" TV dinners. They are around $1.45 each at Walmart. One box satisfies me, and they taste great! Not diet-ish or anything.

If there's anything I can help you with, let me know. :)

Best of luck, hang in there!
George
