Role of exercise for weight loose

Exercise is so essential for our healthy body for the main reason that it may help for weight loss and maintenance. At least 30 minutes a day, aerobic exercise per day is recommended for weight loss but if we increase our exercise time then we can increase the magnitude of weight loss and maintenance.

It help to burn calories from our body so it is great helpful to weight loss.:blush5:

I'd roughly agree with the above poster. I've always been happy to push myself very hard in exercise in an attempt to get away with a mediocre diet but it just doesn't work, sadly. As the bodybuilders says, "no amount of gym-work can out-train a bad diet". I still struggle with making good diet choices, my advice would be to prepare your meals for the next day the night before - it makes it easier.

Yes both good diet and exercises are compulsory to be fit.I think not only exercises reduce the fat in the body it also provides some energy to our brain to work actively.

Actually exercise should never be used for weight loss, it will frustrate you and eventually you will quit. Exercise is great for toning, for changing the shape of your body, keep in mind that one has to burn 3500 calories to lose 1lb of fat. The next time you are on the treadmill look at the calories expended and that will give you a good indication of how long/far you would have to run for just 1lb of fat loss.

I am surprised to see that you say exercise should never be used for Weight Loss, and that someone will eventually quit. That is 100% untrue in my opinion. You are right, you have to burn 3500 cals = 1 pound but it doesn't mean you should run on a treadmill for 2+ hours trying to burn that amount of calories in one session.. Your body burns calories all day, even when you sleep! Beginning an exercise program is great for weight-loss and if the person does exercises that they enjoy doing it makes it easier to stay on track and not give up.

I agree with the other members who mention the combination of a well-balanced diet along with exercise is going to give you the best weight-loss results.

I'm certainly not saying that one should not exercise, I am a gym rat, but I never look at the amount of exercise I do and weigh that against the amount of fat lost, exercise will change my body shape, exercise will make me healthy, exercise will not (even when muscle is burning fat due to muscle building) make a significant difference in the amount of fat loss daily. I would be surprised to see any professional say otherwise.

Of course exercise will make a difference. You can lose weight on restricted calories only, without any exercise. True. But exercise makes it a lot easier, and yes, it makes a significant difference whether you only eat less, or eat less and exercise. For me, when I lost a huge amount of weight, I would lose about 1 - 2 lbs per week on restricted calories alone. A week with added exercise (3 days a week for about 90 minutes, so I wasn't killing myself at all), at the same amount of calories, easily got the weight loss up to 5 - 6 lbs. So yes, definite difference.

Exercise ALONE will not make any difference, as a lot of people mentioned before, but in combination with restricted calories, it will definitely help and hasten the fat loss. I'd be surprised to hear that any professional who works with overweight individuals would tell them that exercise does not make a difference, and I'd be more than interested to the logic behind that. Care to elaborate?

All that I know is that exercise made the biggest difference imaginable when I lost 168 pounds a few years back...

I would recommend everyone that wants to lose weight to do some form of exercise... It does help...

It is true that you can lose weight without exercise, but I feel that exercise is an important tool for weight loss. Even if it's only psychological. You might think "I'm not going to screw up the progress I'm making in my workout routine by eating unhealty foods." Exercise does so much more. It helps to lower your blood pressure and blood glucose, your cholesterol, triclycerides and LDL, raises your HDL, increases your lung capacity, strengthens your muscles and joints, increases your flexibility, and elevates your mood. All these things work along with weight loss to improve your overall health.

Hi,

The role of exercise in our life is very necessary. The best way to lose weight and keep it off is with a lifelong simple program of regular exercise. Now the question arises "Why Exercise?" Reducing kilojoules intake can slow down your metabolism. Exercise keeps your metabolism in high gear and prevents your body from conserving kilojoules. A critical key to a successful exercise program is to choose that which you enjoy(walk, run, hike or bike, aerobic or weight training).

Learn to love walking. It's a great and easy way to burn kilojoules and to improve your health. Everyone can walk. Walk after a meal after work.

Thanks....

First, exercise is ABSOLUTELY necessary for successful long-term weight loss. The main goal is to burn more than consumed (kcal/kJ). There is only so much you can cut out of your diet, not to mention how miserable a very low cal diet is.

Second, without going into any intricacies of metabolism, recent research shows that you actually burn about 20% more fat during exercise after fasting. I am NOT suggesting exercising after not eating all day, but research shows that people who exercise as soon as they get up, before eating breakfast, burn about 20% more fat. And for the naysayers, even more interestingly, these people who ate breakfast after they worked out did not consume any additional cals throughout the day compared to eating before exercise.

Dedicated to your weight loss success,
Matt

I have 2 issues with exercising first thing in the morning before breakfast. I have diabetes, and exercising on an empty stomach can cause my blood sugar to drop dangerously low. Also, having heart disease, morning is the time of day you are most succeptible to heart attacks. I exercise in the afternoon, about an hour or so after lunch. I am not criticizing those who prefer to exercise first thing in the morning before breakfast. Everyone has to do what works for them.

Exercise provides a means of increasing energy expenditure and may help adjust energy balance for weight loss and maintenance. At least 30 minutes a day of moderate intensity aerobic exercise per day is recommended for weight loss and maintenance but greater amounts appear to increase the magnitude of weight loss and maintenance. Resistance training has recently been shown to have positive effects on body composition but does not typically show significant decreases in weight. Regardless of weight loss, both aerobic exercise and resistance training have been shown to diminish risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Since exercise is only effective if sustained, behavioural strategies such as self-monitoring, goal setting, social support, etc. are used to help individuals start and maintain exercise programs and show improved results compared to exercise programs without behavioural strategies. The available evidence indicates that exercise is an important component of weight loss and perhaps the best predictor of weight maintenance.
