Road to Recovery

In a good mood tonight, I just received feedback from the football club about my coaching performance with the new team and was told that the club and players really enjoyed the fitness session and were looking forward to more training sessions as we build up the intensity before the first game :D it is always nice to get good feedback, it is nice for the ego to lol

Good weekend, food was a bit low due to lack of time while working on Saturday at the karate comp and tooth pain on Sunday.

Tooth pain REALLY sux! I hope it feels better soon :) and totally awesome about the football fitness session! I'm so happy for you :)

Thanks for visiting xenon :)

went to the dentist today and the tooth had to come out :(

sitting here dosed up on pain killers feeling sorry for my self. Can only eat soft food for a couple of days and half my face still feels numb. I am supposed to rest so DH is running the kids around to appointments today.

Not allowed to do anything strenuous until the gum heals so no gym for a while and no doing the fitness drills with the ladies at training tonight but will be taking my massage table so I can loosen up their muscles after training. 2 more training sessions before the first game of the season so I can then compare them to the other teams in the comp.

Not eating much at the moment, it hurts to much, probably should do a weigh in tomorrow.

training session went well last night although a couple of the larger girls struggled a little but I haven't been with this team long enough to build trust in my advice for diet but I hope as we get into the weekly games some of the ladies will take match fitness more seriously because at this stage there are a couple who won't make it through a game. On a positive note there are a couple of players making good progress.

I still have an infection where my tooth was extracted so still no strenuous workouts for me and limited food.

I wish there were some competitive sports I could get into here. Would LOVE to be a part of something, you're so lucky!!

Hows the tooth??

crunch time today, it is the first game of the season this afternoon for the ladies team I have been coaching and it is now I will get to see how well the pre season fitness stacks up against the teams first opponent.

last Wednesday I got the mother of all cramps in my calf while demonstration an exercise due to not warming up with the team due to the tooth (the tooth is now fine).

I am on duty this morning for sports medicine during March Past and the first set of games so I may be able to get one of the other trainers to give my calf a massage to loosen it up after the cramp.

weight isn't moving but not unexpected due to my lack of exercise the past couple of weeks along with a slip-up with my eating which caused a major reaction from eating foods I have a bad reaction to. (I must remember to read labels fully even when in pain)

Feeling down today, the ladies went ok on the weekend and training went well yesterday but my youngest Autistic son has be kicked out of the football club due to "safety concerns for other children" in reality it is a few parents that have NEVER come to terms with having a child with a disability playing in the same team as their "precious bullying cherubs" who now have positions of authority in the club.

If these stupid parents could spend just one week looking after kids with a disability they might just grow some understanding, I just wish I could take em down a dark alley and beat the crap out of them.

my son has taken it ok when we told him but I am not sure how much he really understands.

stress and TOM is making my weight go in the wrong direction.

weight is back down again, my ladies team had a bye this week but training is going well and have had some men and women from other team wanting to join in the fitness training with my ladies.

Have spoke to a couple of people about my youngest signing up to play for the local special olympics soccer team and have been told with his skill levels there is a good chance he would end up playing at a national or higher level as it was only his ASD keeping him out of the normal rep team and not his skill.

Put my ladies team through a beep test last week, they done better than expected but still not good. it has been a hectic couple of weekends for work, It is not good when I have to call in the paramedics two weekends in row for a social sport.

my weight is steady again and I have some extra work coming up at a triathlon.

I should start posting my daily workouts again but nobody visits for weeks at a time.

I also went to an injury prevention seminar for professional development last week which was interesting and found that the way I train my ladies is spot on with current research but the thing that surprises most people is that static stretching before an event has been shown to not reduce the rate of injury and reduces performance for sports that require explosive strength (jump shot, powerlifting) and that stretching after an event has only a very minimal effect on recovery. WARMUP and COOLDOWN are all important.

stretching is still important to correct the lack of ROM in some people over a long period of time.

Hey hun, I'm sorry I've not been here for you! I feel bad. Its just, as a rule, I don't visit the diary section anymore. Actually, mostly what I do is just do "spam control". BUT I only do that when my diet is non exsistant. WHen I'm doign well, I hit the diary section up. I guess I feel like, when I'm not dieting, I'm a hypocrit and I don't like it. ANYWAYS...I'm gonna start doign better and hitting the diary section everyday. Maybe it'll help keep me motivated??

Sorry to hear about your son not gettign to play football. Its not right. Parents and kids are so...difficult sometimes. What grade in your son in?? My daughter is in 6th grade and its amazing to me how kids treat each other and how the parents defend the kids..its not right.

what do you mean by your weight is steady again? does that mean you've started losing again or does "steady' mean its stayign the same??

thanks for visiting,

steady means it went up due to stress but is back down to normal weight and not moving. My son is in grade 7 and starts high school next year.

on a good note my youngest son made it through the term without any suspensions or other behavioural problems so next week I am upholding my end of the bargain i made with him and will be hiking into the national park for his camping trip.

it will only be a 1 night stay with a 16 km (10 mile) hike each way on a level 4 rated track (out of 5) so I have to buff up on my map and compass navigation skills. I don't own an emergency beacon and there is no mobile (cell) phone signal in the area but it should be ok as I will have a UHF radio which has enough range to reach a camp ground with a ranger station. If all goes well we will hike the full 102 km (63 mile) track next school break when i buy more safety gear.

the hike will be through rainforest on sand trails through an area which is a proposed extension to the world heritage area next to it.

Was a long day yesterday, my ladies team came down with 2 injuries after a spiteful game which included a punch up and 2 red cards. I was also swamped being the only medic on duty before and during a state level rep game where I was assigned as the dedicated medic for our rep team but the other medic didn't show up till late to handle the problems for the other games at the same time.

my eldest son was offered the assistant ref position for the rep teams game which is a big promotion for him and a show of confidence in his abilities from those who assign referees to the different levels and age groups.

Short easy bodyweight circuit this morning

2 X 10 single arm pushups (each arm)
10 clap pushups
2 X 10 single leg squats (each leg)
10 Nordics
3 X 10 bench dips (feet elevated above chest height)
2 X 10 reverse crunches

time to go wake up everybody else and get ready for our regular Sunday role playing session (traditional pen and paper not computer RPGs) and BBQ

wow! sounds like a busy day for you!! I didn't know you were a medic! cool :) I've always been interested in that, but i'm not a "critical thinker" lol

Congrats to your son! How exciting:D

It can get very busy some weekends, our medical shed looks after 4 full size fields, 6 half size junior fields and and eight 1/4 size fields for the little kids. We look after not only pre event strapping, massage and injury care but also also all on-field injuries and crisis management (it is a long run if there is a player down on one of the more distant fields). We all volunteer our time for the football there is often not enough staff to have someone patrol the more distant junior fields. It is harder for me this year because I upgraded my qualifications last year which make me the most qualified person on the sports med team for Saturdays games.

despite this being basically a maintenance diary I still slip up on my food occasionally, which is what I have done last week, I have been slack in reading labels and the temptation to eat some foods I shouldn't have with the family has been to strong. this week I need to get back on track with NO wheat or gluten, No coconut, No avocado, No Citrus, No Lactose and a few other things. It SUCKS having food allergies, it tastes good at the time but boy do I regret the effects later.

It is nice and cool outside this morning so I think I will go and run some Hill Sprints, sled drags and a set of tyre flips. I would love to have access to a large tractor tyre but I have no way of transporting one.

Raining today, hill sprints went well yesterday.

spent 30 minutes working on the heavy bag in the shed this morning and a further 30 minutes putting together a Muay Thai routine also using the heavy bag for some moves.

10 minutes Nunchaku practice.

I would really love to be able to afford to kit out the shed with tatami mats for Judo practice.

today I need to sit down with my youngest son and pack our Hiking packs ready for Friday morning and I still need to buy the topographical map I need for navigating with the compass, although the track should be moderately distinct I need the practice for a longer trip later in the year.

I don't normally log my food on here but so far today

Breakfast: Kidney Beans
Snack post workout: energy drink (High GI for improved recovery)
Lunch: Chicken Vegetable Soup (gluten free)
Snack: 25 grams 85% cocoa dark chocolate (gluten free)
Dinner: Chicken breast with thai spices

yes this is under 1200 calories but within my nutritionists guidelines for both calories and nutrients, going under what is normally considered the minimum calorie intake is not always bad.

It looks like it will be a busy day on the 1st of may, I have received the full details of the triathlon I will be working at and there will only be 3 sports medicine staff on duty for 800+ athletes which in my opinion is to few for the event but there are just not enough qualified and insured people in the area to work this sort of event.

I will need to stock up on vinegar in my kit in case it is a bad day for stingers on the swim leg.
