just finished watching the news for the cyclone update, it has intensified to a cat 5 cyclone with 300 kph (190 mph) winds and it covers a total area the size of the US and the eye is bigger than the total size of most other cyclones. My thoughts tonight are with those who are going to be hit by the eye of the storm and those who will be inundated by the 7 metre storm surge. It is supposed to be one of the biggest cyclones in recorded history. Thankfully we are on the edges and won't get the high winds that will be at the eye.
they expect it will rip up houses which have been built to normal cyclone proof standard.
this is a picture of the cyclone overlayed on a pic of the US. and also shows a pic of the eye showing that the eye is bigger then the entire hurricane Katrina.
Holy $#!t Trusylver this is the second time I've come to your diary and found some frightening stuff.. the roman chair being one of them

I've lived through several hurricanes..I think one cat5, and of course nothing like this. In the year of Katrina I was analyzing the weather for that year and the year before and I told my mum I think some hurricanes will be with winds of 200+ MPH in the future. I thought about it so much, I had a dream about a hurricane coming toward the US which was as big as the US so the superimposed pic really hits home for me. What are the winds predicted to be in your area? A few things I know about being safe in a hurricane are
1) Do not park your car under a tree or stay in an area of the house that has a big tree over it/ roots under it.
2) Try to stay away from windows while weathering the storm (for severe storms like this). It's best to stay in a room with no windows if possible.
3) Be alert but stay calm
I was without power for over a month after a hurricane once, but it was not as bad as being out of utility water--we had plenty of drinking water, but nothing to wash our hands with or flush the toilet with. Some ppl were filling their garbage pails with water from the community pool lol. So fill those tubs with water just in case--providing it is safe to do so.
7 meter storm surge is really high. There was a hurricane that caused a surge of three meters and it completely eroded the beach in some areas.
Stay safe and please keep us updated!
Edit: I would say get shutters, but I doubt there are any designed for these winds, although you are living in an area that may not be hit as severely loose shutters can cause more harm than good in these winds!
