resting

I know it's good to rest at least a day to let your muscles repair after lifting to prevent overtraining. How much rest should you give yourself after each set? Would a short rest between sets inhibit the repair of your muscles, even with a day in between? Thank

i've been told that the amount of 'rest' time in between sets is dependant on whether you're bulking or cutting, rascal. right now, i'm bulking, so the idea is to keep your heart rate low, or at least, not racing all the time. a fast heart rate burns fat like a mofo, so when you're trying to retain some mass, keep that heart rate low. for me, i will rest maybe around 90 secs. in between sets. when i'm cutting, trying to keep my heart rate up, it's between 9-14 secs. a short rest between sets will do nothing bad for you, but if you're cutting, try to minimize it. :)

well for me when i'm training for size i keep my rest peroids short. i've got them down to 45 seconds right now. i'm not trying to push big numbers, i'm trying to make the muscle work more than its accustomed to. i do more reps and fewer sets.

when i'm training for strength, i rest for about 90 seconds at the least. i'm doing fewer reps and more sets. the very first rep will be a son of a gun and then i have to follow that one with about 4 or 5 more. when i rack that weight i need to take the time to collect myself and walk around a bit.

1. c.45 seconds for isolation exercises, c.90 seconds for compound exercises. 2. no, generally 2 days rest for a muscle group will be insufficient for proper recovery but rest time between sets won't affect recovery in the following days. shorter rest times will only limit how much you can lift and your muscular endurance in the session, which will mean you don't break the muscles down quite as much.

Thanks everyone that replied, this helps a ton! Keep pounding out reps and stay motivated.
