Rest Between Workouts?

I Know Male's Are Meant To Take 48 Hours Rest Between Workouts For Body Building, Does This Apply For Female's Aswell ??

What is The Recomendation Of Rest Between Work Outs For A 16 Y.O. Female Trying To Tone ?

Each muscle needs to rest 48 hours before being worked out again. Muscle is muscle, doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl. (as far as I know)

I've heard from several sources that you need to let your muscles rebuild for 48 hours before you break them down again, and that's how they get stronger.

you can train muscles 2 days in a row but the second day should be used as a recovery session with high reps and going no where near failure...this will actually improve your recovery...you can train the muscle in directly also which can do the same but isolating twicw in a row is a no go for anyone unless on gear maybe

But for a 16 year old... I don't agree. For most people I don't agree with that statement. Many people (especially women) are just getting used to the idea of lifting weights. Now we're trying to educate the female public that lifting 3-5 pounds isn't much. We need them to lift heavier.

We also need to dispell the cardio all day everyday is good myth. Sorry to go off on a tangent, but my point is that most people need at least 48 hours rest... if for no other reason than they don't know how to "recover" as you suggested.

Swan, I am going to have to disagree with you here. From experience, the majority of individuals in gyms today overtrain. This is why you see people in gyms lifting for years with very little change in their physiques; that and they leave their fitness worries at the door and don't eat correctly at home.

I am a big fan for the more experienced lifter to train 2 days in a row. The third day should always be used for rest, not light weight training. Let your CNS rest. And again, this is for the more experienced lifter, not a young individual with a young training age.

as long as you dont train to faliure you can train everyday if you wish
read this there are also more studies

i didn't know about the age factor...but in general i still think u can do it...the central nervous system recovers quicker than the muscles so with varied sets, reps and load you can train more often...if a client couldn't do a 2nd session that week and had to workout 2 days in a row i wwod definately have do that and risk a little overtraining instead of under stumulation as they will have 4 - 5 days to recover before next session
