Hey, I found this site a couple weeks ago and finally decided to register and post. My name is Rachel, and I'm a college student from the Midwest. I'm 5 foot 5. I currently weight 174, and I started off at about 188. That was just over a month ago. It goes off so fast in the beginning, right? Anyway, I'm here to find people in the same situation as me, and hopefully make some new friends (albeit the digital ones). Thank you!

Hi rachel! Welcome to the site and congrats on the progress so far. 14lbs in the first month is a big acomplishment! You're right in that it comes off quickly at first, losing lots of water. Going forward, you should probbly plan on 7-8lbs max loss next month, and it will drop slightly every month you lose more weight. Make sure you're eating enough, and exercise will help you hold onto muscle so you're losing mostly fat.

But, since you've been lurking for a few weeks I assume you've read the stickies and know all that already :p So just keep up the good work, and welcome!

welcome rachel :) we're all here for each other and you're no exception :) hope you lose the weight you want soon :)

hugs xoxo

Awesome work so far! Congrats! That equals to about 4 pounds a week so far. DANG! But you're right, it does slow down. According to the medical and the "healthier" weight loss communities like this one it's suggested to lose a pound to 2 pounds a week, as that seems to be the healthiest way to lose. I shoot for 2 pounds a week and that seems to go well. :)

Anyway, welcome to the site! I hope you find it as helpful as I have (it's helped me to lose 26.5 pounds in the past 2 months). :) If you have any questions feel free to ask. Oh and if you haven't already take a look at the diary/journal section and feel free to start your own. It helps a lot!

Hi Rachel,

I am a new one too. Joined only today! Your specifications are very close to mine..only I am probably 15-20 years older (which is significant when you talk of weight loss). I was about 15 pounds less last year, through dieting, but I put it back on this year. Now again looking for ways to lose weight. Its soooooo tough! What were you eating when you lost all this weight in one month?

Tita -
Basically, I spent the month teaching myself how to cook. I didn't have any fast food at all, just to see if I could do it. I also used to drench everything I ate in either ranch dressing or cheese, so I cut way back on those.

Fiber. Fiber fiber fiber. It makes you feel so full and gets your whole body in sync. Fiber supplements, powders, just eating more veggies and whole grains in general.

I also keep a pretty detailed food journal, just so I know exactly what I'm eating. And I calculated my BMR so I'd know how much I could eat.
