Red Faced?

Hey everyone!

Check this out.

I go to play 5-aside football on Sunday's between 6 and 7 in the evening. I consider myself to be quite fit, although before i was going once every month or so, but now i've decided to start going weekly. My theory is the more i do it the fitter i'll get (obviously).

But there's something thats annoying me, i play well most of the game and fairly hard for an hour straight. But by the end of it i'm absolutely Beetroot red in the face, not just slightly on the cheeks and forehead, i'm talking in the eye socket area, just the complete face.

I look at my mates at the end of the game and the majority of them are sweaty but not red.

Why is this? Any doctors or PT's out there?

FYI: Im 22, quite slim at 67Kgs ish.

Teddy

I'll assume your getting enough water and your body isn't burning up. When you can't sweat your body overheats. Thats why babies often get fevers and turn beet red- newborns' bodies don't have a developed temperature control system. As an adult, you do- but it requires water (to sweat).

So if your hydrated, your just unlucky. Genetics is probably the answer. Same reason why some people turn beet red when they're embarrassed or excited (know a couple people like that). When you get excited your blood rushes (because your heart is beating faster) and in some people all that rushing blood causes pigmintation (because you have thin skin, capalaries are close to the skin in some areas- whatever).

Its not un-common.

But I'm not a doctor or Personal Trainer.

so red faced what else is going on other than being beet red?? are you sweating profusely , heart rate high, dizzy ar anything other than getting red?? need more info..
could genetics like surreal said or not but with nothing else to go on??? your guess is as good as anyones. ps - have i have medical training as a paramedic so i can only say if its a heat related thing or underlying disorder, but can give some info on what direction to look at..

Oh right

Since i posted this reply, i have been going to play football and playing for an hour every sunday. And it has got so much better, where i was absolutely red as hell when i first started and for about 2 1/2 hours after training before, it has now greatly reduced and within an hour of finishing footie my face has returned to a normal ish colour.

It's funny you mention pigmentation and embarrassment, yes i do suffer from that fairly regularly. I find i'm a confident chap but if cornered about a certain subject or anything embarassing that i can't get out of, i get panicy and i go red. Is it connected?

Also i have a banana before football and consume lucasade lemon/orange sport drink during. Should i be drinking water?

Jenn thanks, yes sometimes i do feel a little dizzy here and there. When i get home i feel as if im floating around a bit, but thats common surely. Apart from that, i feel ok. Paramedic eh? Cool.

getting dizzy and floaty could be a sign that you are heating your core temp faster then your body can cool it. it will get better thou just take easy and build up to it. and yes drink water to keep you bod hydrated. otherwise you will steal fluid from your cells to compensate and that you do not want to do in the long run it'll have some not so nice conseqenses. so hydrate plz. cause i know you like your heart and your brain right , don't lettem suffer. okay. so when you get dizzy just sit and calm your bod down- this is not the time to gorf down a gal of h2o if you don't want to yak, small amounts at a time until you feel okay again. Listen to your body. it is not normal to be dizzy or feel floaty- that your bod sending you a warning.. What is your blood pressure?? pulse?
