Realization that I need to lose the weight

Hi. I'm new here. My screen name is flower_lily. I joined this forum because someone said something mean to me last night and it made me realize that I'm NOT happy with myself anymore. I want better for myself. I want to feel good about myself before I leave this world.

A little back ground. I'm 21--22 this Saturday:party:. I stand 5'2 and weight 200 lbs. I gained about 60 lbs over the past two years. I put on the weight because I started college and wasn't really active. I spent a lot of time watching TV and doing things on the PC. I was a very inactive person. Today, I'm still sorta "inactive", but I actually do more. Thing is, it's not enough to help me lose weight, plus I eat a lot.

My goal is to lose about 70-85 lbs within the next year, year 1/2. I know what I need to do, it's just sticking with the plan and following through. I have a problem with "getting caught in the moment". For example, if I'm around a bunch of people who are eating fastfood, the temptation is too high to control myself. I will more than likely order fastfood. My whole diet is screwy.

I'm on here because I was wondering if anyone on lost weight and if so, did you feel better about yourself mentally??

Hi there. Welcome to the forum. Losing weight, becoming more active, and just living more healthy overall is a great goal to have. You are very young! There is never a better time to turn that ship around and get into the best shape of your life. Don't let your 20's pass you by being unhealthy. It only gets harder as you get older :)

I'm sure your college has a gym and probably some nutrition classes. Have you tried looking into that? Fast food is a hard thing to resist when you are in college and on a typical student budget. My recommendation would be for you to try to plan ahead and eat before you go out w/your friends. You need to find something within you to draw upon when you are at your weakest moments. :)

Good luck to you!!

LLH has some good advice, though I'm not sure the eating before you go out with friends is practical... Planning ahead is good - plan what you're going to eat when you go out with your friends and choose places that do have better options. I'm not suggesting that you eat rabbit food or like that -but by spendin a little internet time researching better choices - you can go to any place -- a little bit of knowledge will get you thru..

Feeling better about yourself has to come from within you - not based on what you're seeing in the mirror... Find the reasons to love yourself and get yourself healthier - and the weight will follow...
