I'm new to the forum but am 50+ and fear I'm too old to make any progress...I did manage to lose 100 pounds five years ago, but since then it has returned and I'm miserable. I can't get motivated anymore. Hoping to find some inspiration and hope here.

Miss Mary,
Welcome! I just want to say to you that you CAN lose the weight again, and keep it off! Age is just a state of mind! I lost over 40 pounds this year, and turned 50 while doing so. Before starting on my weight loss journey, I was convinced that I could not lose weight due to my age and metabolism. How very wrong was I!! I will say that it takes hard work...both eating a healthy diet and counting calories, and exercise to get the job done. Exercise definitely has played a large role in my weight loss, and now in maintaining that loss. It's all about changing your lifestyle forever. You can't just lose the weight and then go back to all your bad habits that caused you to put on the weight in the first place.

Good luck!!! You can do it!!!!!!!!

I agree with Di. I started my weight loss project at age 48 (I am 50 now) so can confirm that extreme weight loss is perfectly possible at our age. There is a link to my before / after photos in the last couple of pages of my diary so I suggest that you check that out. You may find them reasonably motivating - since it is often easier to identify with someone from your own age group.

I found that daily walking was of major benefit to me in my project.

I do appreciate your comments. I am trying to stay motivated because I did so well the last time and failed. I was sure that time that I had 'finally' found the program which was right for me. I had changed my habits, I thought I'd never slip back into the hell of overeating and becoming ridiculously fat again. But, little by little, all my new, nice clothes became too small and now sit in my closet unused. I threw away all my fat clothes because I just knew I'd never need them again. I know how difficult this is and I suppose sometimes I think, what's the use? I have, however, been doing well since my initial post and am taking it one day at a time. Thanks.
