Ready to be healthy

So the saying goes "life's a marathon, not a sprint".....I'm not sure I'm in shape for either.

Well today was day one and it was a rocky first day. I woke up sort of late and ended up having a piece of leftover egg foo yung from last night. Not a very good start...I ended up going to the store and library with my boyfriend where I got a few movies, one of them being the 8 minute Tae Bo workout. Once I got home I ended up having 3 bagels with cream cheese in a 5 hour period!!!! YIKES!!! :eek2: I don't even know why I ate them, actually I do. I was selfish. I knew going into this that it was going to be hard for me to cut out some of the pasta and breads but there is no excuse for me to have that many bagels in one day. Good lord. Well after eating all those bagels I felt guilty so I did the treadmill for half an hour and a few sets of free weights. Then I popped in my tae bo video and got my tushy kicked. Unfortunately this is the advanced video and it gave me a cardio workout that I'm sure I'm going to feel tomorrow. Luckily I'm still fairly agile for my weight so I was able to do most of the exercises on the tape, but there were a couple of spots where I had to just march along with the video.
After working out I realized that if I hadn't eaten all those bagels and the fried food for breakfast I would be a lot better off after all the working out. Well there's nothing I can do about it now except learn from my mistake and hopefully I won't do it again.

Unfortunately I also feel like I'm getting sick (I think I'm getting my boyfriend's cold) but with all the water I'm drinking hopefully it will just go through my system quickly. Regardless of how this cold makes me feel I'm going to try and work out 5 days a week or more for the next month. I've heard that if you do something 30 days in a row then it becomes habit so that's what I intend on doing. Since I don't think very highly of myself either I've also decided to include a mantra to say every day in the hopes that this 30 day thing applies to the way you think as well. "Today I will like myself"

Alright well I think I'm going to shower, have a few grapes and stretch before bed.

Good luck everyone!

You are not alone, I love breads and pastas too. It is really hard for me to cut back on those. Its funny because almost none of my weight came from junk foods like cakes, cookies and candies. I actually hate that stuff...yucky!

Tomorrow is a new day, and you can start fresh. Good luck! :)

Jim Morrison had it right...People are strange

For the past couple of days my internet has been acting up so I haven't been able to come on here to post and it was weird how I had already gotten used to coming on here and looking for inspiration. Unfortunatley that cold I was getting got pretty bad and I haven't been able to do much more than blow my nose the past few days. Even though I haven't felt very well I still made sure to do the tae bo tape from the library. It was still hard but at least I did something instead of just lie around. Giving up the pasta and breads has still been hard for me but I'm making more of an effort to cut back. Hopefully since my cold is going away I can start walking and doing more activities too. I've been tracking my food intake on fitday.com and I was surprised to see that I don't actually take in as many calories as I thought I did which is getting me excited because I'm sure that once I become more active then some of the weight will come off soon.
I've also decided to set a goal for myself. Instead of saying that I'm giving myself a year to lose the weight I would like to lose it by next June. I'm hoping to plan a trip to california and I would LOVE it if I could go a little healthier. That would be so ideal for me. I know that if I were to go to Cali right now I'd have a good time but it would be so perfect if I could go and be happier with the way I look.
I think it's so funny how a lot of why I want to lose weight is because of how I want to LOOK. In high school I was 200 pounds but I was fine with the way I looked, it was my parents who kept pushing me to lose weight. Now that it's two years later and I weight 75 pounds more they don't say anything and my boyfriend thinks I'm more beautiful than when we first met two years ago. People are so strange.

Good Luck everyone!

Sometimes the carbs can be very addictive. Try eating low carb for a few days and you'll notice those cravings for bagels disappear. You'll still think of the bagels fondly, but you wont have an uncontrollable need to have one.

oh how I'll miss those bagels....

I'm definitely going to miss eating my carbs but I know in the long run it will pay off.

I was talking with my neighbor today about how I want to lose weight and we got to talking. Ever notice how much cheaper junk food is than healthier food? Thinking about it got me a little mad because I realized that when my boyfriend and I are tight for money we are stuck with foods like Ramen noodles or some form of pasta. Anyone know of healthier foods that won't break my budget?!!! I'm open to almost anything.

Good Luck everyone!!

quick update

So it's been a few days since posting and I thought I'd check in. The past few days I haven't really done anything too out of the ordinary but I weighed in today and I'm down 6 pounds!!! :jump:It's actually kind of surprising because the last couple of days I've had some food that I know I shouldn't have but my weight still went down. I have been drinking more water and I've been making more of an effort to get more activities in my day so it must be paying off. Hopefully I can keep this up and be down another 5 pounds in a few weeks (I'm going to a function for my boyfriend's grandfather and it'd be nice to be down a little more by then)

Good Luck everyone!!

carbs aren't evil... you should avoid white flour, but whole grain carbs are goo for you...

Beans - high in protein and fiber, super cheap, low calorie for the quantity and very tasty - lentils, black beans are both super cheap especially dried, which are low sodium as well... and you can do a lot with them.

Eggs are fairly cheap, and you can do a lot with them.

Check the super market sale flyers, chicken breasts go on sale often, and you can buy in bulk and keep them in the freezer...
