Ready for next step.....where to start?

Hello,

Great site with lots of great info. I hope you guys and girls can help me out. I'm a 35 year old male. About two years ago I went to a nutritionist in order to help lose weight. At the time I weighed 220 pounds. After learning how to eat properly (healthy) from the nutritionist, I lost 40 pounds in about 4 months. I've maintained that weight loss over the past 20 months by continuing to eat healthy and cardio exercise (NordicTrac) every other day for 30 minutes.

Now on to my problem. I still have quite a bit of fat on me that I really want to lose. The nutritionist said the best way to do this would be by starting to lift weights in order to increase my lean muscle mass. This increased muscle mass will naturally burn more calories. Sounds great but the nutritionist couldn't really provide me with a plan for doing this (In all fairness that's not her area of expertise though). So, can anyone her recommend how I go about doing this? Specifically, should I use free weights or a machine like the Bowflex? How about an actual exercise schedule/regime? Any other tips or advice?

Thanks for the help.
