ravenous appetite because of sweetener

A few days ago my sister told me that sweetener causes revenous appetite. So the sweetener should have a negative effect on the metabolism. She even said there were quite many studies about this. Nevertheless I have never heard of it. Do you know if it is really true? Actually it sounds a little strange too me and it would be terrible as I am using sweetener quite often while trying to avoid sugar.

I've heard eating sugary things can lead to more intense sugar cravings that cause binges (thus the advice is to avoid sweetened things altogether if you're especially vulnerable to the doughnut demon), but other than that, I have no idea. *shrug*

Morning,

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but the sweeteners I put in my coffee or yogurt or water etc. just make me think, boy this tastes better than without; ie, no cravings emerge. I use SweetLeaf liquid stevia.

Data points,

Barbara

There is one study out there that drew a correlation to the fact that people who use sugar substitutes are heavier than those who do not use them. Having read the study, I think the findings are complete nonsense and totally circumstantial. It's like studies that find people who smoke are more likely to drink. Smoking doesnt cause drinking and drinking doesnt cause smoking, they are totally explained by lifestyle choices. The lifestyle choices of people who pick out no calorie sweeteners etc are more likely to be people who are concerned about their weight and probably have done the yo-yo dieting thing.

Using experience as a guide, I dont have ONE friend who is in majorly good shape that doesnt drink diet pop if they decide to have soda.

Scientifically, there is no bloody way that these generated super-sweet practically no calorie aminos cause cravings that result in huge appetites.

from your posts, it sounds to me like there's a lot of ignorant people around you.
I use sugar twin in my coffee daily.

I pushed the wrong button. Sorry the the short message.
I wanted to say that it is really good to hear that you don't believe in the findings of the studies. And as some of you mentioned coffee, yogurt or whatever would really taste boring without the sweetener. Honestly I have to say that I have craving quite often but I really hope that this is not because of the sweetener!
