Question for the weigh yourself everyday club.

Don't you find that weighing your self everyday is an exercise in frustration.

We know that our bodies are going to fluctuate based on salt intake, menstrual cycle, water retention or even increases in lean muscle mass, etc.

Reading the threads...I get the feeling like everyone is married to the scale as opposed to health and a lean, fit body. Surely ending up with a lean, fit and healthy body is more important than an actual weight.

Some people suggest that they use it to keep on track, but others say how frustrating it is.

What are your thoughts with this, what is the priority for our outcomes or results, a weight or our health and how we look and feel. Lastly can't we come up with a better way to "stay on track".

Comments and Suggestions encouraged.

I'm not married to the scale. It's what works for me. I weigh myself each morning when I wake up and go about my day. If you read each comment, we do talk about inches lost, and how weight goes up and down, and how much more healthier things we are doing. It's not like I get on the scale everytime I have something to eat thru out the day. Some people weigh in once a week , some people do it every day, some do it once a month. It's whatever works for that person to keep them motivated. We are all different and really enjoy there is a daily weigh in club for us that choose to do it. Being healthy is our goal, which includes weight loss and working out and eating right. EVERYONE is not married to the scale.

Couldn't agree with you more MzScorpio! Just because people weight themselves every day or every week, doesn't mean they're married to the scale or use that as their only means of measurement of "success" in their lives. Everyone has their own means of motivation.

Well.... people aren't stupid, you know. After weighing yourself on the scale daily, you're going to understand that you have natural ups and downs... even after several good days of eating.
In my mind, weighing yourself every day, is more about reminding yourself about the commitment that you've made to give yourself a healthier way of living.

^ This. It's the reason I weigh myself every morning.

I think weighing yourself everyday has the potential to become obsessive. However, I also think that you can learn so much from doing it. I've been keeping a food journal since I had to lower my food intake once again. I'm learning more and more how water, salt, meals and exercise affects my own individual weight down to the time of day, amounts and even types of food. So when I weigh myself in the morning, it's a learning experience whether I go up or down. One person on this site learned that if they drink alcohol the night before, the scale hated them the next day lol. But it went back down later. Learning about yourself is great!

We're all different. For some of us it works. For others it isn't a good idea.

Is it possible that there is a better way to remind ourselves of our committment to eat health and stay focused.

That is to say, if the scale can be on some days pschologically challenging, is it a healthy reminder of our committments. I have had days where the scale has bummed me out after coming in at a weight higher than I expected. I have also approached the scale with a level of trepidation in anticipation of what it will say. Sometimes it feels like more of a stress builder than a help.

Thoughts?

Based on the thread popularity and overwhelming success stories from those members..no..no I think for those people, it's working just fine. They realize that it fluctuates but it works for them.

Of course there are other ways to become motivated or to check yourself often...this is one of them... I also have a motivational calender I read daily. Looking back at older pictures is motivating. Compliments about good changes are also good for keeping up motivation. Why dispute this one way?

It just doesn't sound like you're one of the people doing this would help.

There could be a better way FOR YOU. But you have to find it.
I guess if you're looking for suggestions, there's people who keep fat pants or skinny pants lying around to help them remember what their goals are.
Visiting this website also helps me.
Keeping a food journal could help you.
There....... some ideas for you.

My experience when you are really on the overweight side of the scale like me peaking over 270 starting is really hard and you need every motivation you can get. Weighing yourself is a reminder that you are on a journey and doing it daily reminds you to stay on track. Being heavy as well the lbs drop fast, so you tend to weigh yourself more and you like to see the results.

As your Endurance strength grows your everyday workout that feels like torture before becomes a part of your day to day life. The weigh yourself routine slowly disappears.

270-230'lbs - I weigh myself everyday
229ish 210- 1-2x a week
209 - 195 maybe once every 2 weeks cept when I was hitting onderland I got scale crazy.

Sum it all up. It naturally disapears as the months and lbs passby.
