Question about weight fluctuation

Is it possible to gain four pounds in one day? On friday I was 174 and when I weighed myself on Saturday morning I was 178!! Is this just water weight or something? I hope so because I have been eating very healthy and exercising 6 days a week. Any thought?

I think it's probably nothing to worry about either. Could be water weight, could be anything. Could be the scale? I have to calibrate mine before each time I weigh. It's always off, but then when one pay's less than 15$ for a scale, well, I got what I paid for.

Yes and No

I don't think it is possible to gain 4 pounds of fat in one day, however, thats not to say you might not increase in weight that much. I do every weekend, but that because of beer and sodium plaing havok on me and making me retain water. Another possiblity is that you are not "moving things" through the system as effectively one day to the next. Happens to me sometimes too where I am 3-4 pounds heavier for a couple days, then I have a very big "movement" one morning and 4 pounds are gone! A little disguting but true. Thats why weighing yourself everyday has to be taken with a grain of salt. The reuslts are soooooo varied and dependant on so many things that it really isnt all too accurate at the best of times. Give yourself a couple days and drink lots of water to flush yourself out. Might just be the ticket.

Thanks for the advice, all of it is plausible. I will just wait and see. It just sucks when the scale goes up. I like when it goes down.

hehe.... i'm here to make u feel better.

i went up by 8 pounds since Sunday.... yea crazy number.
but I am sure it'll come down. It sure doesn't feel good while u r waiting. :)

Thanks pinkydolly. I hate when the scale goes up. However, this morning it was back down to 174. That will teach me not to eat salt and vinegar popcorn too much (or maybe it was the night out with the girls and the rum!!)

I'm weighing in everyday, and haven't had a rapid uptick yet--but I have had a few zero progress days.

That can, undoubtedly, be frustrating. However, I've noted losses the following day every time I have had a "stall day".

I think the previously-mentioned combination of factors is probably at play.

I like the scale calibration tip. I have a cheap scale and have to make sure it's "zeroed" properly every day.

I know how you are feeling. One day I'll be a certain weight, then I'll drop four pounds and then the next day gain it back. The best bet is stop weighing yourself so much. I have a really bad habbit of that and it's a hard habbit to break. I'm trying to get back to just doing it once in the beginning of the week to see what I was coming off the weekend, and then at the end fo the week coming off. It's discouraging, but dont' give up!

Alcohol and salt I did have I must admit. Who can resist salt and vinegar popcorn???

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I am not used to the scale moving around so much. I was consistently 192 for 10 years (+/- 1 lb). No joke. So when it the scale has been going down but then jumps up I freak out. I work too hard now to gain weight (6 days a week exercise, 1500 calories approx.)

Last Tuesday I was 10 stone 9lbs exactly.
Last Saturday I was 10 stone 9lbs 9 ounces.
Today I'm 10 stone 10lbs 3 ounces.

Quite depressed about it, but I'm hoping what everyone is saying is right and that your weight just goes up and down. I have been exercising more recently and eating rather well, so it can't be gaining.

Don't worry about it!

Miracle, I am from Canada so I am not sure what weighing 10 stones means. What does that translate into pounds?
