Question about the thorax.

Alright people, me again.

I have a question. I just began working out about....almost 3 months now. I was just wondering, my thorax I've noticed is like...just..bone... XD

Like, I touch the middle of my chest, and theres nothing there, could you build muscle here? I can feel the bones. Does pec work outs build muscle ontop of here? I've been working pecs, but for toning, and truthfully, I can see a noticable difference, but I guess it must like work from the outside in or something.

I feel like this can be a major downfall for me. If I where to, heaven forbid, get into a conflict with someone from whom I would HAVE to fight, something tells me that if I got hit in the thorax bone, I would have some serious trouble.... -_-''

Suggestions?

Your Throax are in the middle of your back dude.

I think you mean your sternum. No you cant build muscle over it. You can only build muscle over bone and you sternum is cartilage. you can build your pecks big but they wont grow over your sternum. Perhaps you should not get punched in the chest.

Take up a martial art. where you from?

Tim,

In a fight, I wouldn't be worrying too much about your sternum. The sternum itself isn't a very good target, and most inexperienced fighters will go for your head anyway. Experienced fighters (if they want to actually fight with you) are going to go after your solar plexus (stops breathing), you're nose (same effect), you're throat, you're kidneys (you drop like a rock) or and I know this is debatable, but it does happen, your testicles. If they don't wanna fight you, they're gonna break your arm or leg and go on their way. If you're guarded, there is no way you should ever get hit in the sternum with ease. Martial arts may be a way to go if you're concerned with that.

okay my 2 cents yes you are talking about your sternum, but your thorax is your entire chest cavity, ribs spine and sternum. aevans is right you shouldn't have to worry about getting hit there unless someones already got you down and decides to lay the boots to you. the sternum is pretty hard to break because its purpose is to protect the heart. even when we do rigerous CPR we only break ribs.
