Question about Spinning

I work out 4 days a week and am considering adding spinning. I read this about spinning :

"It helps strengthen your heart, tone your glutes, calves, thighs in addition to being a great exercise to slim legs."

Is it true? Will it slim my upper legs/thigh area?

I know it is great cardio exercise and you can't target weightlosss but I was wondering.

my point is that I know certain exercises benefit certain things. So I am asking in that context. For example doing curls with weights benefit your biceps, squats, lunges, leg press build your thighs. So my question re spinning was in that context. Sorry it I was not clear.
thanks

I always thought it was a matter of resistence. If you have it low it could help, but high and you will gain muscle. Is that correct?

spinning is very good for cardio respiratory systems one of the best because you don't waste energy carrying your own mass. low resistance for longer durations will provide you with nice toned thighs etc higher resistance and you could end up with monster thighs perfect for powerful and forceful movements. also, you must be careful if spinning is your only cardio exercise as the muscle action is all concentric there is no eccentric phase which may leave you with a muscle imbalance between your quads (concentric) and hamstrings (eccentric).

hope this helps

I'd imagine it would help the muscles listed directly, but as for the slimming effect that'd depend a lot on your diet. Spinning helps burn calories, but if you're taking in too many that's a whole 'nother issue.
