Question about loose skin??

So I was 163 pounds now I'm 108.
I lost the weight in a very healthy way but for some reason I lost it pretty fast - in about 5 months total. So my question is, I feel like I'm still trying to lose weight because I want a really tight flat stomach but I'm starting to think that it's just skin. So being that I'm 22 years old, is there a chance the skin will shrink at all? Is there anything I can do besides surgery? I'm not striving for perfection here but I do want a flat tight stomach - before anyone says it yes I workout and do core workouts. However there is still like a pouch and its really bothersome.

Hey Mandi :) First off, congrats on the weight loss ! That's fantastic !
We are kind of in the same boat..... except for gender.
I lost a bunch of weight, pretty fast myself (just shy of 80lbs in 9 months) and yes, now my belly is loose :(

So here's a couple things to keep in mind;

1) I have studied some really solid sources, and basically what it comes down to is this > If you lose a bunch of weight in say, 6 months, it could take 12 to 18 months for your skin to get back to its maximum tightness. However, this is not to say that it will ever get as tight as we would prefer. Just, that it could take that long for us to find out.
After that, if the problem were still extreme (which for our reasonable weight loss, I don't think it would be) one could possibly resort to surgery.
However, for exactly the reasons I just stated, most reputable surgeons won't even consider surgery until at lerast 12 to 18 months after the major weight loss.

2) A lot of people (including myself a few times) have reached down and grabbed a fold of loose, flabby skin, after a big weight loss, and said, "See, I still have all this loose skin"...... But in reality, a LOT of what we would like to call "loose skin" is still those last remaining bits of belly fat. And it's those last remaining bits that is SOOO freaking hard to get rid of !

My best advice (that I'm trying hard to follow myself) is just to keep doing what your doing. Excersize hard, but smart. And don't become discouraged.

We have accomplished the easy part. Losing that last little bit of flab, and getting tight, and defined, is the hard part.... But I know we can do it :)

Peace,
Fish

I'm worried about this as well. So far I have lost about 30 pounds in 3 months, and while I still have so much fat that it's hard to say my skin is loose I am starting to notice my belly button sagging a bit.

Considering you're in your 20's and you've only had to lose 55 lbs. I think that the skin should have no problems tightening up, just give it time. Wait a year to a year and a half and do some strength training and I'm sure that the skin will tighten up some, if not all the way. Also keep in mind that as a woman it's very natural to have a little bit a pooch around the belly area. It's next to impossible to get rid of, not that I recommend trying. Too many women want bellies that look as flat as a guy's but that's just not natural for women.

Let that time that it takes for it tighten be a reminder to never put yourself through that again.

I know that's how I look at it. I lost 90 pounds.
