question about burning calories through workouts

Hi again:)

I am a little confused about something.

I know that I have to eat a certain amount of calories in a day so i don't end up storing the fat i have. I can eat 2000 Calories to maintain so I cut out 400 to lose because I know with my cardio I burn at least 100-200 calories with my workout. I have reach a stoping point in weight loss and I wanted to push more with my cardio routine. How much in your diet do you have to make up for what you burn, it seems kind of pointless to keep raising my eating amount to match my workout amount. Is extra calories burned with workout to be included as much in how many calories you need. Do I really need to go above 1600 calories? I just don't understand making up the burning of calories in a workout with eating more.

I am so sorry!

Say I need to eat 1600 calories a day to LOse Weight.

On a normal day I burn 2000 calories without including cardio or strength training.

On days I do workouts If I burn 400 calories, do I then need to eat 2000 calories, or are burned calories not the same? Meaning do i have to make up for lost calories burned so I do not mess up my metabolism.

My goal is weight loss with toning.

Your diet should come first. Also, you don't really know how much you're burning with a workout, but you do know the caloric content of your food. I would switch to a 1500 calorie a day diet if you're looking to lsoe weight.

How did you find your total caloric needs for the day? That should include your fitness.

So if 2000 calories a day is what you need to maintain... then subtract 350-500 from that number. Eat that much per day.

However you determined that you should eat 2000 calories per day to maintain... it should already have activity level calculated in there. Is what I just said really confusing? lol. Sorry!

No that makes sense. I put my activity level as light/moderate.

I guess my real question is now, how do you tell how many calories you have burned doing a workout? I really push myself, eat great and clean but am not seeing any results. My roommate says it a plateau and that I will bust through it, however its been a really long time since lost any weight or made any muscle gains. Is their any formula to figure out a Irough estimate of what you burn to land in the ballpark?

I eat 1600/1700 calories a day. Resting or no workout I burn close to 2000 but when I throw in activity according to this thing online I burn about 2100 to2300 calories. Thats why I eat 1600/1700. Its just frustrating and confusing to me and i just want to reap the benefits of all my hard work is all. I know girl that take diet pills or starve and they are way past me in results. I would never do that but it is frustrating sometimes.

Hi Katy,
are you doing any weight training in your workouts ?? Also what type of cardio are you doing, HIIT, low intensity, etc. ?? Are you drinking enough water ?? If you feel your diet is up to snuff then maybe you need to tweak your workouts a bit.

I do a full body strength train 3 days a week. I get at least 9-10 glasses of water a day. Should i get more than that?

I do HITT on days that I am not doing my strength training. On the days I am I do endurance cardio.

There are charts that will say "An Hour of Medium Intensity Basketball Burn XXXX amount of calories..."

But they are estimates. Online journals are nice, but most of them are WAY off and lead to frustration for many of its users.

If you are not seeing results, then you have either:

- hit a plateau
- are not eating enough
- are over working yourself
- taking meds that are preventing fat loss
- or least likely of these- eating too much/working out too little

Post your routine in detail and your menu in detail. I don't count calories. Too confusing for my simple brain :)

I just follow the 5 tips to fat loss. Simple. Effective. Results-Oriented. And no brain freezes :)
