Queen Latifah

Just saw my first commercial of Queen Latifah on Jenny Craig. I am so for her for doing this, even though I don't know much about Jenny Craig, I applaud her for jumping on the wagon

Jenny Craig need to spend some time on getting those celebs to maintain. Whatever happened to Kirstie Alley ? Oh yeah right, she regained the entire lot back! in fact she never even really got to her goal anyway!

I'm almost disappointed... Queen Latifah, who also had/has a contract with one of the big make up companies - was sort of the poster child for women of size could be beautiful as well -that beauty didn't have to be a size 0... She was a plus size woman from da 'hood (jersey girl she is) who, though she had breast reduction surgery a few years back, she made absolutely no apologies for not being twig thin and managed to star in some pretty big movies...

Guess Jenny Craig pays well for being a spokesperson for eating their over processed foods...

I am disappointed as well. She seems to be pretty active from what I can determine and her size is just her size. She is a 'big' girl. It was nice that she expressed comfort about it. I guess times change. I wish her well.

I also liked Queen Lah's image as a woman who was big and beautiful, but who never came across as lazy or unhealthy as the media often tries to portray overweight women. I think the JC diet sounds absolutely nasty and overprocessed, but I never tried it so who knows..

Are you serious!?!? She gained it all back? wow, I didn't know that.

Yea, I guess I'm sitting on the fence, so to speak about QL. I mean, sure she's the postergirl for big women, but at the same time, she has to live her own life. She can't just keep being overweight just b/c it makes everyone else feel good.

The Valery Bertanaly (I know I totaly misspelled that) Photo shoot really upsets me. There are soo many obvious (to a photographer anyways) tricks they do to make her look like she's lost so much. For example. Her before picture she has her sleeves turned up to make her waist look bigger, AND she has her shirt buttoned way up. However, in her after pics, her sleeves are not turned up AND her shirt is very low cut. Photography tricks=fake results.

I didn't realize that. No wonder they are using the solo Valerie commercials now.

If it is anything like Nutrisystem :puke:
My first husband was on Nutrisystem and it smelled like dog food. Why would anyone injest that?

I dont think QL has to stay big for us to be happy, but I liked the fact that she kept weight a "non-issue" and now its becoming a focus. It was nice to just have someone to like for who she is, regardless of her size, which was almost not noticeable except in that it made her come across even stronger of a woman and person.

perhaps thats half the problem with society. its not acceptable to be overweight.

Having kids who watch disney, i love how they dont overstress on the extra skinny actors, its fantastic to have great role models. But i seriously pity the black actors who are often overweight. Why is it ok for white or other ethnicitys to look normal and the black people have to be overweight?

I don't know, I don't think there are more overweight black actors then there are white ones. Who are you thinking of?

I never really noticed that about black actors either. However, I've noticed the black culture is often more forgiving about different shapes and sizes.

I was thinking more along the lines of Disney stuff.
They have 'Rayvn' from several programs ('Thats so Ravyn' and 'Cheetah Girls'), also Cory from 'Cory in the house') come to mind mostly

65% of America says normal is overweight.

yeah, you're probably right.
What i dont get is that girl Rayvn who does tons of dancing and singing and jumping about, that has to be hard when overweight, not to mention staying overweight when you're doing all that.

Now I'm trying to find pics online of Kristie but most sites I find say she has not gained it all back its just rumors and that she gained some back but is still lost around 75lbs so I'm confuzzled.. But anyway QL was quite the rolemodel but maybe she doesn't want to be that rolemodel anymore - maybe there is a health issue that's urging her to lose weight who knows?

In all fairness to her the campaign clearly states that she will have a "very different campaign, focused on a healthier lifestyle, not on getting onto a specific dress size; which I think is great because there is no harm on being healthy.

Queen Latifah wants to lose about 5 to 10% of her weight and she officially started her diet. Queen’s diet of choice? Jenny Craig. If fact, On Jan. 10 she confirmed that she is a new Jenny Craig spokeswoman.

Her weight-loss goal might seem modest, but Latifah says, “If you lose 5 to 7 percent of your weight, you cut the chances of diabetes in half.”

Her grandmother died of diabetes by the way. In a recent interview, Queen answered some questions about her new diet gig.

:waving:Love, love, love Queen Lah at any size! Ditto Raven Simone, she is so funny and I think a great role model for my own daughters! Wish there were more generously sized gals on tv instead of stick-thin, scantily-clad types!
