Put me off buying a burger

What the title says folks.

In about 3 hours, i'm meeting a friend to have a movie night in her flat. These movie nights always consist of a big fat greasy beef burger and chips from the local take away.

Despite knowing that i'm going to regret buying one. I feel my self control slipping, my cravings are going crazy and I keep thinking no Stacey don't buy one. Have some fish and brocolli instead. But god i'm finding it so hard. I have a nagging feeling in my head that i'm going to say what the hell and go buy one anyway. Argh! Why do cravings have to be so damn strong?!

Anyone have any words to say which might put me off buying one?

I've looked at photos of skinny girls on the net. I've thought about how i'll feel afterwards if I buy one. Or how i'll feel if I eat healthy and do my exercise (about to start my exercise now actually). But nothings working, it's as if my brain has a one track mind saying 'buy a burger, buy a burger'. Grrrrr!

Hi Stacey,

Things like this are typically a large challenge for me as well. I finally got past this type of challenge in the last 6 months, and have lost over 50 pounds. I did it by finally saying no... I took a stand, and said... "I am committed to losing this weight, and I will make no exceptions"... I did anything I needed to. I believe you have this same ability. If I was faced with what you are facing this evening, I would do the following. I would call the friend and say; "we need to figure out something healthy for dinner" and tell her that you are getting anxiety (of course this sounds dramatic, but it is true! :)...) about coming over because of the burger thing. Then tell her that you don't want to have something like a greasy burger come in the way of the movie night... All of my friends understood.

Also, I started bringing my food with me to places. I would go to game nights at friends houses with a healthy salad, and watch them eat chips and dip, bacon burgers, etc. I also brought healthy snacks, celery and hummus, almonds, etc. It's all about planning ahead... you can do it!

Hey..
Why not share a burger instead?
That way you won't feel "deprived" so to speak, and you're not eating as many calories or as much fat.
Or do what I did, I ate the burger without the bun and only a half portion of chips :p

Or, eat before you go out, and maybe cook afterwards or order something different.
Chicken pitta? With no sauce its good because you've got the takeawayness, and salad, and pitta bread/naan instead of burger bun.

Either way, don't beat yourself up no matter what happens.
You can't never eat a takeaway again!!

TALK TO YOUR FRIEND!
Let them know what you're doing and why you don't want to eat that slop anymore.
Any good friend would understand and want to help you out. Maybe your friend also should be cutting out greasy burgers and chips?

why not try a shish kebab its all meat and salad really, infact ask for a shish with no peta just salad

Well my mate doesn't get a take away. She eats before I meet her....it's just me and my cravings.

I was actually thinking of getting a subway instead (chicken and lettuce) no sauce. I suppose that's healthier than burger and chips.

Thanks folks! :)

Btw something which might amuse you. I wrote on numerous post stick notes "No Burger!!!!" and stuck them around my room including on the door handle. Ha the lengths I will go to, to avoid that crap!

I don't think that would work for me because I would keep seeing the word burger and the thought of it would keep poping into my head.

Good luck and go with the subway!!

Eat before you go out and then get a Subway afterwards if you must.

If it helps............

A friend of mine used to call burger vans 'scab vans' an I thought it was because it sounded like 'kebab' and never thought anything else about it. Until one day I hapenned to ask him why he called them that. His answer was brutally simple. He said 'Because the meat looks like a scab someone picked off'

After that I found it a lot easier to walk past.

(honestly, seeing something like the picture below sort of makes me want to hurl, BUT I STILL LOVE BURGERS!
