Pulled up toenail. Best way to handle it?

Day after Turkey Day, this happened:

That picture does absolutely no justice to how gnarly it looks since I took it with my phone. My toenail was pointing at my kneecap. I tried to snap it back down, but the pain prevented me from doing so, and it probably never would have. Sucks. And hurts. And that picture is after clipping off as much as I could before writhing in pain from the nail being flexed right before the clipper cut it.

So, is the best way to handle this by dowsing it in Neosporin, put a nonstick bandage/patch over it, and wrap it in gauze and just wear flip flops for a week or so? A buddy of mine said the same thing happened to him, and he did all that and was finally able to put on a shoe after a week of being careful not hitting it. I realize this will not heal in a week, but will be sufficiently healed over enough for me to wear shoes and walk normally.

That picture was taken right after it happened. Today, it looks SLIGHTLY better as inflammation has gone down and the nail is SOFT from all the Neosporin and is SLOWLY folding back down.

Suggestions?

just keep it covered with a sterile dressing and wash it thoroughly with soap and water no matter how bad it hurts.

the only thing you can really do is wait and let it the old nail fall off. the area under the nail with eventually desensitize and the new nail will grow right over it.

For the past two days, I've changed it once in the morning, once at like 5-6pm and one right before I goto bed. When it initially happened, I used an antiseptic wound wash and peroxide to clean it and kill any germs I got on it from my sweat and socks. But after, whenever I change it, since I'm wearing flip flops and my feet aren't sweating, I would just re-apply the Neosporin VERY generously, replace the sterile non-stick pad (also covered with Neosporin, just to be sure it doesn't stick, lol) and gauze wrap.

It no longer throbs or hurts. It 's SUPER sensitive (expected), but it doesn't hurt, which I guess is a good thing. I've also upped my vitamin C intake. Taking a supplement in the morning (as usual), and been eating a red grapefruit throughout the day. I'm trying to attack this thing from the smartest position as possible and seriously avoid any chance at infection and/or ingrown toenail. Am I going about this right?
