hey, thanks to anyone willing to read and comment
2 years ago i had an incident with my knee, i went for a 5k run which was nothing out of the ordinary for my physical state back then, came back and just sat down when all of a sudden i heard my knee pop and something didnt feel right. there was no pain however, just slight discomfort. a little later i was putting my full weight on it and it completely gave out.. it proceeded to swell up and the next day i could hardly walk since it was so swollen and tight
couple days go by, swelling subsides and it appears fine.. i play ice hockey on it and still fine. however, whenever i ran i'd always get a tight/unstable feeling in my knee and on the rare occasion would swell up again for a couple days. all this remind you with out any pain, just swelling and tightness.
ive been to several doctors which have all given me different diagnoses, have had an mri which revealed nothing and have tried multiple different pair of running shoes and nothing worked. i then went through physio therapy to strengthen my quad muscles but didnt recognize any improvement in 2 months and i was doing all of the excercises with ease
my dad thinks it may be psychological since an mri and different treatments have been showing no improvement. i always dismissed the idea of it since it sounds ridiculous to me and didnt believe it was even a possibility. but a recent shoulder injury may strengthen this idea since i injured the shoulder but can operate it fine after a few days without any pain and only feel something when i do excercise, same for my knee.
so with that being said, i was wondering if something like this could be psychological? like the opposite of the placebo effect where i think i feel discomfort but its really nothing? having no "real" pain backs this theory, although it doesnt explain the occasional swelling of the knee
any thoughts on what it could be? thanks
