P's diary: ramblings of a carb junkie!

My father would be best buddies with you. There's a company here in the states called "Bush"... he loooooooooooooves Bush's baked beans. He could eat them morning, noon and night. :) Me, I love them, but they way the come, they aren't really that great for ya. (lots of sugar and such)

AC - Way to GO avoiding those fries!!! I used to eat them at least once a week. I think I had them only once in the last month. Every time I would think about them, I'd add up those calories and ask myself if they were really worth it today. One time, they were. ;)

I love Bush's chili with beans. Gotta watch the calories, though! :)

Ramblings
I've started looking at the nutrition panel on everything I eat.The beans at breakfast come in a single serve tin 130g @ 107cals; 17g carb of which 7.4g are sugar;0.5g fat of which 0.1g saturated fat. I think the sugar level is quite acceptable as the beans are a low GI food.

Tampachick and twinmom - you both mentioned Bush's baked beans and the calorie and sugar levels. I would be interested in the sugar levels compared to our baked beans.

I achieved half of my goal for today by eating an extra piece of fruit, however didn't do my weight training session. Nevermind it will be my goal for tommorrow.

Exercise - 3km walk; 10.4km bike

I've started to enjoy sweating on the bike, love that sensation of the sweat rolling down my face and off my nose:) Makes me feel like I'm actually achieving something. I must admit when I'm driving home from the gym I feel very smug and self righteous:D

Again, another day without snacking after dinner...whooo...hooo:) My weigh in day will be Friday, can't wait to see if the scales have moved. I really need to lose centimetres of my waist, not just weight. I am your classic 'apple' shaped body, I don't carry any fat on legs or much on arms, its ALL around my upper body, so its important that I lose that body fat!

I'm still feeling very positive, something has just gone click! in my head this time. I think now I've reached 44 (mid 40's:eek: ) and with 2 young children the health ramifications from being obese look very real. I would like to be the mum who can run with her children and not be embarrassed when I take them to the beach. I especially don't want my childen to be embarrassed about me, that would break my heart:( And of course I want to be able to go into a boutique and buy an outfit that I really love instead of chosing one because it happens to come in my size.

One last thing, I've introduced no eating areas (for me) in our house.

No.1 No eating when on the computer.
No.2 No eating in front of TV

Which means I sit at the dining table as they were the 2 main areas I would snack.

Wow, this post is long:D

beans

Bush's original baked beans are 140 calories for 130 grams, or 1/2 cup.

Bush's chili with beans is 125 calories for 1/2 cup, but a serving is listed at 1 cup, so that's 250 calories. Of course, it comes in a little jar and apparently has about 2 servings in the jar, which I never really took as two servings before I started counting calories. I took it as one big bowl, which was very yummy served steaming hot with a bunch of crackers. That would have been 500 calories for the chili and about 150 calories or more for the crackers! Big lunch!!!

Ramblings
Had a very good day today. I met a friend and her sister at a cafe at 5.30pm. It was too early to have dinner, but I knew I would have to eat something. The girls had the cheese melts with chips....boy o boy they looked yummy with lots of melted cheese and those hot chips! But no, I said to myself, make a conscious decision to find a healthy alternative! I ordered a half serve cheese melt without the cheese and hold the chips!!! I had never asked anyone to hold the cheese before!! <lightbulb going on over head> ah! so I can request food the way I want it and I won't be thrown out the cafe!!:D

OK, now for something different. Could everyone who visits my diary tell me their favourite workout song. Can be all time favourite or just current favourite. I'll start and say current favourite is Madonna's "Sorry", though I'm not a big fan and all time favourite is anything by early Stones.

Baked Beans; 2 multigrain toast; coffee

Morning tea
12g pecans; apple; coffee

Lunch
Egg & lettuce s/w;coffee

Afternoon Tea
cup a soup

Dinner
Curried vegetables & steamed chicken
trim custard & fruit salad

Exercise
Didn't get to the gym today.

Ramblings
Even though I didn't get to the gym I still did a lot of walking. Friends and I took our children to a wildlife reserve. Went for long bushwalk and did lots of chasing after balls at the picnic/playground area. Packed a s/w, fruit and a thermos for me so I wouldn't be tempted to nibble on chips etc. It was a glorious winters day, beautiful cloudless blue sky, warm sunshine and children that behaved:)

Friday night has always been our take away night. This has been the downfall of many attempts to lose weight. I used to say to myself, "just 1 night won't hurt", which is true. However Fridays would lead into Saturdays, and then Sundays and by the time Monday came around I would've regained the meagre loss I had achieved the previous week!

Tonight was different, I didn't want to undo my hard earned weekly loss AND I recognised I wouldnt stop at just 1 burger on Friday night.

Troutman - I'm following your example and omitting something for two weeks. I'm deleting from my food vocabulary 'Chocolate' and 'Friday night take aways'.

I'm still doing battle with my ticker:mad: How do I get the weight to read 97.5kgs. Using the decimal point is confusing it:)

Ramblings
Had another good day. Feel great! Went out today with the family, lots of walking!! I should have planned to take some fruit for morning tea because I was quite hungry by the time we had lunch which was quite late (2.30pm). We stopped at a cafe for morning tea, I was so tempted to order some yummy looking cake to have with my latte. Luckily latte filled me up with a huge glass of water as well.

As I type this I'm feeling a snack attack coming on:) It's 10.30pm, everyone is asleep and I'm feeling a bit peckish. Hopefully a big glass of water will do the trick!

My willpower will be put to the test tomorrow. We have friends coming for the afternoon/evening. I'll have to prepare afternoon tea, nibblies and dinner. I don't want to start snacking and then say what the heck, I might as well go on an eating binge. I always overcater for visitors and end up eating all the leftovers, so tomorrow I'll try and cut back .

I'll let you know next post how I went.

Hey AussieChick!!! I see you're from NewCastle!! When I was down there I lived in Canton Beach, and would go up to N.C. all the time!! What a small world!! I like the idea of being an honorary Aussie!!! ;) If you're looking for real Aussie's, Zoila would be on that list!

Thanks for the advise you posted on my link. Chocolate, it aways makes me happy to know I'm not the only one... over there my tops were Midnight Mars, that Cherry one (what is it called now, with the Cherry and Coconut...how embarrassing that I can't remember, I can see it though!! ) and Maltizers!!!! YUM YUM YUM!!!! What's yours?

It looks like your doing so well...Good on ya!!! Taking chocolate and Friday Night Take Away out of your vocabulary eh? WOW you're a strong woman!!! But I'm SURE you can do it!!! Also I have to tell you, your hummas over there is SOOOOOO good compared to ours over here, yours in smoother....hummas, doesn't that sound good!!!:) Keep up the awsome work!!

Ramblings
Well, I didn't do too badly today. My 1 big downfall is potato chips, so I decided I would let myself have some while we had our visitors and feel guilt free. However, the Goddess of Portion Control was nowhere to be found once the chips were placed on the table:) We were all sitting around the dining table playing a word game and all I could think of was....just one more handful of chips won't hurt!

Needless to say I feel bloated at the moment from all the salt and potato. On the positive side though I resisted all items containing chocolate:) Yes folks thats right, the choc mint bikkies went straight passed me, as did the yummy choc bavarian that was dessert.

I'm looking forward to my gym workout in the morning. I must pay for my overindulgence:)

Aussiegirl - the cherry and coconut chocolate bar you couldn't remember is called a Cherry Ripe. They are my all time favourite chocolate bar! I always thought Canada would be a lovely place to live......but not if you don't have Cherry Ripes.:D Next you'll be telling me you don't have Violet Crumbles!!!:D

I actually make a great Cherry Ripe slice, but I fear I would be booted off the forum if I were to reveal the recipe. It's very, very sinful:D

I've joined the weightloss challenge in the other thread. I't should be fun...let the games begin:)

Hi AussieChick! We're on the same challenge - GO TEAM 4!!

I love poached eggs - I read that it is the healthiest way to prepare eggs. Thanks for the reminder of that yummy breakfast item!

BB;toast;coffee

Morning Tea
Nil

Lunch
cup a soup: turkey salad wrap: skim latte:

Afternoon Tea
Apple;palmful pecan nuts

Dinner
Quesadilla and green beans

Snacking
I don't know what happened, it might have been because I had the potato chips yesterday, one moment I'm preparing dinner the next I've spotted a big bag of sourcream and onion crackers in the pantry (kids like them). Well I just could not stop eating them. What a terrible start to the weightloss challenge:(

I've decided to start counting calories, and try to stay under 1200 per day.

Exercise
3.1km treadmill: 10.1km bike: weight session

Ramblings
I'm very disappointed with myself today. I was feeling positive until my slip up with the crackers. I see I still have major issues with portion control. Well I'll just have to shake off the disappointment and negative thoughts and concentrate on doing a great cardio workout tommorrow morning.

Hi AussieChick,

I'm a fellow belly buster :).

This is the first diary I have read other than my own so far and man, I never thought that there was another person out there that was going through and feel exactly like I was feeling but now I know I am wrong because I felt like I was reading my own history right here!

You are amazing and strong!!!!!!!! I would always let one bad day stop me right in my tracks before, but not anymore! Everyday is a new chance to try even harder than the day before and I know you can do it!!!!!!!!!!

I really admire your honesty in your food and exercise section! Keep up the great job!

Hey, girl! I am glad you are going to count calories. It is a good way to keep control and still fit in treats where you have the calorie budget.

I am doing about 1500 calories a day on average, and losing a little more than 2 pounds a week. You don't want to set your limit too low, especially if you are exercising regularly. If 1200 leaves you pretty hungry or frustrated, you might try bumping it up a little bit. Good luck! :)

mommyof2, Miss Kallie, twinmom - thanks for your support! I really appreciate it. I've got to take each day as it comes and then move onto the next new day. A biiiiiiiig part of my weightloss this time is recognizing that one 'bad' day doesn't mean the end of all my hard work. My philosophy now is "its happened, what can I learn from it, move on."

Thanks for your advice twinmom, I've decided to have a 1500 cal per day eating plan. As I usually have the same breakfast and type of lunch I 've worked out the calories of my regular meals, which makes is a bit easier. So next time I really feel like crackers or potato chips or some other treat I won't feel as though I'm "breaking" my diet, I just have to incorporate the cals into my eating plan. Oh, and I must call upon the Goddess of Portion Control to grant me the clarity to see that a 250g bag of potato chips is not in fact a single serving!!!:D !
