Proving them ALL Wrong!

Today has been interesting. I logged in got some advice, left some posts and felt the love what a wonderful start!

Then the stress started and I ended up crying and carrying on. However, my eating was not really affected so here is the tally so far:

2 Quaker Low Fat Granola Bars-100 cals each
1 Ligt n. Fit Yogurt 4 oz
2 bananas

2 baked Chicken Legs
1/2 cup Mixed Veggies

40 oz Crystal Light
32 oz water

Activity---going on a 40 minute walk after I decide what's for dinner, more than likely grilled chicken and corn for me.

Attached is a full length "BEFORE" picture!

Let me just say for the record, that you are a beautiful woman as a before, You will be a knock out as an after!! (can't wait for the after pics ;))

Stay motivated, don't let the little stuff get to you, just keep your eye on the prize. Do you have a specific plan of attack? I see you are trying to track your intake, that's a good move (I was never good at it, but I think I need to start).

Stop in and look around, everyone has a different way to do things, and some of them may work for you.

Check you later.

Well thanks so much!

Did not walk like I was going to last night :(

I ate Chicken Fettucine Alfredo from a low fat recipe I made, about 1 cup in all.

So today I need to get back grinding, yesterday was just a sad day.

This morning-1 Light n Fit, 1 banana, 32 OZ Crystal Light

09/04/2008

Well thanks, I love that quote! Interestingly it came from watching Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium with my kids LOL!

Anyway-yesterday went well...LOTS OF WATER! I think I drank 3 liters with only one being crystal light :)

Ate-Bkfst-1 banana, 1 yogurt (4 oz), handful of Raisin Bran Crunch

Snack-NONE

Lunch-Leftover 1.5 cups Chicken Alfredo Pasta with Steamed Broccoli. Looked up the recipe on Kraft Foods for the Chicken Alfredo and its about 460calories per 1.25 cup serving so that works for me!

Snack-Teddy Grahams 150 cals

Dinner-12 oz Steamed Brussel Sprouts w/ 1 tsp Parmesan Cheese and 1 Pat Margarine, 1.5 cups of seedless grapes, about 1 small handful of Chex Mix

Workout-Dragged my friend Renee with me to our company gym (which is free btw!) Crunches- on all sides of my abs about 60 from each direction. took about 15 minutes...

Elliptical-31.5 minutes or 2.25 miles at 6-7 resistance for an approximate calorie burn of 400 calories! WOO HOOO!

Did some research on myself to find out the following stats...

MY BMR is 2149 based on sedentary activity level
Calories to Maintain Current Weight NEEDED daily-2214

Plan of attack- Looking to lose 75 pounds over the next year---need to cut/burn addtional 600 calories per day. So to do that I will do a combo of reduced calories intake and exercise. As of yesterday burned 400 calories will reduce intak by 200 food calories to balance it out.

I actually think I have cut my calories WAAAYYYY DOWN but I definitely need to track them to get a better idea and add soem protein to my diet.

Today is another great day....:hurray:

The weekend went well except no excercise to speak of...:(

Anyway Friday we had a Pictionary party at some friends, presented a small challenge since we did not know they were cooking! But did fairly well at 3 pieces of barbq chicken very little sauce (all legs) and some baked beans and they did have diet coke! So all in all not too bad, oh I did eat some crazy chocolate truffle things but I did not like them so I ate just the two...

Since the weekend been on track doing sort of a modified Fat Smash Diet (Biggest Loser) which allows as many fruits/veggies per day to be satisfied, low fat yogurt, brown rice, oatmeal, and all types of beans for protien.

It is going okay, if I get snacky I am eating a Kudos bar (100 calories) they come in a couple of good flavors. I was going to get the Fiber One Bars but the value wasn't as good. I hate these decisions as a single mom, is it healthy or is it cheap???

Looked on craiglist to find cheap exercise equipment and located a Gazelle Freestyle for 40 bucks and that Turbo Jam (Hip Hop Abs) for the same, going to get those tomorrow. I stopped in out local big box and bought the Walk Away the Pounds 1-3 mile series for less than 15 bucks. Did the two-mile last night and it kicked my butt! I didn't think it would since I am used to elliptical training, but those are a good deal :)

Anyway---off for today eating banana, low fat yogurt and Crystal light for breakfast, brought my lunch, whole wheat angel hair pasta, 10 med shrimp which I will steam with fajita seasoning and peas, a sprinkle of parmesan and that is lunch! WOO HOOO!!!

I am pumped today, lots of energy talk to ya'll (I am not a southerner lol) LATER!

Sounds like your definately on track!
Be sure to get around to tracking your cals on a regular basis.
And way to go scoring the exercise equipment!!!
And I can totally relate to the healthy version vs the cheaper version.
I think that it totally whomps that to eat healthy you have to spend so much $$$!
I mean they (the media/health organizations) keep going on and on how Americans are soooo fat. But they don't make it any easier for us to lose this weight!
Keep at it!

Hey there! You have a wonderful outlook on this whole experience! Keep it up!

It's great that you got the Turbo Jam. 24 hour fitness has "Turbo Kick Boxing" classes and I think they're the same thing as Turbo Jam. If so... you will get quite the work out! Plus, it's fun and energizing.

I can't wait to see your progress! :)

I am trying to maintain a positive outlook. Not sure about the calorie thing tracking, trying to do the best I can with it. I guess WW has put me off tracking my calories seems like a chore but I have saved every weekly tracking sheet from when I lost 40+ pounds with WW.

Took updated metrics today at my company gym here are the results...

Weight
225.00 lbs

BMR
1745

Muscle Mass
116.2 lbs

%Body Water
39.6

Bone Mass
6.2

Body Fat
45.7%

Last metrics were taken in February but I have gained 3 lbs of muscle since then. I worked out at the gym today 25 minutes of cardio-approx 350 calories plus abs for about 15 minutes 50-60 crunches each angle.

Sometimes I have a feeling I will remain this weight????:ack2: I am really strong and seem to be doing much more in the gym but the weight is not budging and I have been at it a month already, maybe tracking calories is the answer...let me know your thoughts...

Thanks about the exercise stuff, there are tons of people that have machines almost brand new sitting around collecting dust! I know because I was one of them, I think I still have the entire FIRM system and I got that when my youngest son was a baby, he's in first grade now!!!

Number 1, don't get discouraged!!! Interesting show I watched today in my health and fitness class. Nova sponsored a marathon team of sedentary non athletes and gave them the physical training to be able to finish the marathon. One of the points they made though was that months into the training, most still had not seen much in the way of body fat loss. Huge changes in VO2 max etc, but the point they were making was that diet trumps exercise all day long with regard to losing weight. Keeping weight off, and losing weight in a healthy fashion are what the exercise works best at (that and keeping your heart, circulatory system etc. healthy)

I have a coworker who went on a Dr. monitored crash diet because of health reasons at his weight. He and I were very similar body types, he's 6'4" and was weighing about 360 lbs at the time. He lost 140 lbs, which is amazing, but he doesn't look healthy. He is still carrying a gut at that weight, even though he is about where he wanted to be. He lost a lot of muscle mass, so his composition isn't good. He is now starting the long process of trying to put back some of the muscle, and change his composition.

My road has been longer, and will continue to be that way. I plan on building the muscle first, using the increases in metabolic rate, combined with intelligent food choices, to do the work. My plan is to arrive at my goal weight, already firmed up and in good shape, rather than having to rebuild after the fact.

It takes longer to get to your ideal weight this way. In my opinion it is the healthier way to do it. That is why I am trying not to get discouraged if I only see a 2 lb loss over a couple of weeks time.

Sorry for the long post. BTW, if you do decide to track your calories, fitday.com is a pretty good way to do it.

I totally AGREE :iagree: with Reluctant!
Don't get down on yourself. I know that everytime I do that I end up having a bad day/week/month! LOL You name it.
Just keep slugging along.
As for the calorie tracking, if nothing else you could just go over to fitday and put in a few days worth. Past days that is. That way you can really see where you are at.
It is amazing how sometimes we "think" we are doing so much better than what we really are.
I do believe that Reluctant did this last weekend. And it was quite the eyeopener for him.
Good Luck

Thanks for the words of advice---I am a member at calorie-count.com so I did some investigating, tracking and realized I am eating about 1400 calories during the day BEFORE dinner and evening snack. Sooo, I should cut back on a snack or two and that should help...I think the eat as many fruits and veggies as you like has gone to my head!

I am going to limit my calories to around 1500-1700 per day to further motivate my body's cooperation with my mind!!!! LOL!:bigear:

I have to keep tracking I see or I can easily get off track...:patriot:

:iagree:

I read through this thread and your 'brand new life' thread... you've definitely found a good place for real support in your journey to losing weight.

Those that tell you that you are crazy for wanting to lose weight after being this size for so long... pffft!! I was at a heavy size for over 10 years and I've dropped almost 75 pounds this year. I'm in better shape now than I was through my 30s (I'm turning 40 next month).

'Revenge' can be a great motivator (I've got a little bit of that too), but I hope its because you want to do it for YOU.

Keep it up!

And if we should be listening to anyone, it should be Phoenyx, just look at the avatar pic...

It is funny you were reading my posts while I was reading yours Phoenyx! Love those Nascar pics :) he he! You have come a long way baby and it looks good!

Definitely, this is for me, myself, and I. SOmetimes things can be a distraction my marriage and "busyness" was that for me. I made more excuses than a few as to why things could not fit into my life because of all my responsibilities to other people. NOW IS THE TIME TO FOCUS ON MY GOALS!

As for the diet--I think I have located my downfall :)

This was today...

Item Grams Calories
Light 'n Fit Nonfat Blueberry 113 40
Bananas - Fresh Fruit 126 110
Kudos Milk Chocolate Granola Bar, Peanut Butter 130
Progresso Beans Black 390 300
Rice, Brown, Medium-grain, Cooked 195 218
Whole Kernel Corn 125 90
Nectacotum Pluots - Fresh Fruits 165 76
Kudos Milk Chocolate Granola Bar, Peanut Butter 130
Bananas - Fresh Fruit 126 110
Peanut Butter Creamy - Nut Spreads 16 95
Chocolate Duet Cookie with Walnuts - Cookies 21 91
Asian Sesame Chicken Salad - Hand-Tossed Salads 336 440
Total Calories Consumed 1,831

Does not include the additional 180 for salad dressing which I looked up on Panera's website. So really about 2000 cals for the day...

This is pretty much how I eat everyday and with a resting metabolic rate of 1745 even with an additional 300-400 burned in exercise I am breaking even pretty much!

Some more exercise or cutting out all the dang granola bars will help! AS for right now I am off to walk away the pounds 3 miles to offset some of todays damage...

I really appreciate all the encouragement and words of advice, you guys ROCK!!!:grouphug:

Wow
I can see that you are doing the exact same thing that I did when I first jumped into this journey.
At the very beginning I was treating this like it was a diet. Not as a lifestyle change.
So I would eat alot of convienance foods that were in those 100 cal packs. You know 'cuz their 100 cals. Easy to add up. No work on my part. LOL
I was always still hungry and always still craving the carbs.
I finally realized that this was going to be forever and not just "until I reach my goal."
With that said I threw out all the 100 cal packs and replaced them with fresh, natural, good for you foods.
Almonds
Fruit
Veggies
Things like that. Now I am not saying that I don't still grab the occasional junkie food. But when I do I always end up paying the price. Because then I start craving things again.
I would say that cutting out the granola bars would be a good first step.
See where it leads you. You never know.
You may not even miss them! :)

I don't really crave carbs but if I don't eat them I get really dizzy and stuff becuase I am not at all a big meat/poultr/seafood eater so something has to feed the muscles you know?

But I am going to up the protien from some other sources like lentils/beans and cut back on the carbs. I have pretty much cut all but natural sugar out of my diet and the granola bars are starting to taste REALLY sweet to me.

Most of my diet is pretty much natural sugar, and foods. Whole wheat pasta, brown rice, steamed veggies, fruits. I do low fat or non fat dairy because it helps with skin elasticity and muscle fibers. But I see I need to cut back especially on the lunch portions of "good" carbs because the clorie expenditure is too much.

I will be tracking calories or points or both from now on, because as Curvie Girlie says "my mind is playin tricks on me!" LOL! Goodnight ya'll...

BTW-- I did do the 3 mile Walk Away the Pounds tonight before this post, will attempt the 1 or two mile in the morning if time permits between rushing out the door and getting kids off to school :)

Good luck with your weight loss journey. As was said before, you looked awesome as a before, so I'm sure you'll look great as an after. I look forward to seeing the progress.
